Turmeric

One of the best anti-inflammatory spices is turmeric, and it is largely because of the active compound: curcumin. Not only does it work to lower oxidative stress and support immune function, but it also supports inflammation pathways in the body. Although curcumin has been linked to improvements in arthritis, anxiety, and metabolic syndrome, more research is necessary. Ground turmeric powder offers the most concentrated antioxidants, but make sure to pair it with black pepper and a fat source to make curcumin more bioavailable. If you are on blood thinners or other medications, consult your doctor before you take turmeric because it can interfere with some medications. 

Ginger

Ginger adds a zesty zing to any sauce, smoothie, or stir fry, and the tea has just enough spice to help soothe a sore throat. Both fresh and ground ginger offer benefits, but fresh ginger root brings more aromatic compounds. According to research from 2020, ginger can trigger the release of anti-inflammatory messenger proteins called cytokines while simultaneously reducing pro-inflammatory ones. The specific antioxidant compound behind this ability is gingerol, which gives ginger its warm, bright flavor. Studies show that when ginger is dried, the gingerols convert to shogaols, which can be more potent, according to lab studies. Both gingerols and shogaols may have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties. 

Cloves

Laboratory measures of a specific food’s antioxidant content do not reveal how the body absorbs or uses them. Ground cloves, however, have a higher Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) than cinnamon, according to nutritional data. The antioxidants in cloves include flavonoids, gallic acid, and eugenol. A 2025 study found that the antioxidants from clove pods could be more effective in lower doses when compared to other antioxidants, such as beta-carotene and ascorbic acid. Eugenol also binds strongly to bacterial enzymes, meaning it may have antibacterial properties. Cloves may also help decrease blood clotting and blood sugar, but may be harmful in high doses. 

Oregano

A classic spice in many different cuisines, oregano is rich in flavonoids and other antioxidants, including thymol and carvacrol. Studies suggest that these antioxidants may support immune function. In fact, as an essential oil, oregano has exhibited powerful antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. Oregano may also support intestinal wellbeing, helping to fight bad bacteria in the gut and balance overall gut bacteria. Due to oregano’s potency, exercise caution when using it. As a supplement, oregano is very strong and should only be used under medical supervision. If you use oregano oil, use it in the short-term, as long-term use can disrupt gut microbiome.

Working to neutralize free radicals and oxidative stress, these flavonoids may help reduce the risk of chronic illnesses and obesity. Do not peel your apricots because the peel boasts large quantities of fiber and other nutrients. Just make sure that you discard the pit (a.k.a. the stone), as that is inedible.

The best way to ensure that this sorbet has a great texture is to freeze the apricots ahead of blending them with the other ingredients. The aroma can help lift your mood and alleviate stress. Green coffee oil, on the other hand, is typically used in skincare products. That said, both oils contain high levels of caffeine, flavonoids, and antioxidant compounds. When combined with other oils for topical application, coffee oil has many positive benefits for the skin.

Benefits Of Coffee Oil

The active chemical components in coffee oil are responsible for its invigorating, refreshing, and aromatic qualities. Some of these compounds offer impressive anti-inflammatory properties, which help relieve soreness in the muscles. The flavonoids provide protection against free radicals, while simultaneously increasing immunity. These flavonoids may also help restore moisture to the skin, reduce puffiness under the eyes, and improve collagen production

Coffee oil’s flavonoids and fatty acids include palmitic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and stearic acid. We’ll detail their benefits below:

How To Make Coffee Oil

Ingredients:

  • Organic roasted coffee grounds
  • Organic carrier oils (non-comedogenic, preferably)

Instructions:

  • There are two methods to make your own coffee oil: hot infusion or cold infusion. Cold infusion takes more time and hot infusion is ready within an hour or so. 
  • For the heat infusion, add one cup of your carrier oil of choice to the top of a double boiler. Mix in a half-cup of coffee grounds and leave over low flame for one hour, stirring occasionally. 
  • Strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve once the infusion process is complete. Store the oil in a jar until ready to use. 
  • For the cold infusion method, add one cup of your carrier oil of choice to a jar and mix with a half-cup of coffee grounds. 
  • Mix well, screw on the lid, and then store the jar in a cool, dark place for one month. Remove from the jar’s hiding place after a month and strain the oil using a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve.

Like apricots, grapefruit, oranges, peaches, tangerines and mangos, cantaloupe is a great source of beta-carotene. This is a very simple dip that packs a big flavorful punch. Your taste buds won’t know what they hit them, even after you’ve taken 10 to 12 bites. Traditional oil-packed tomatoes are dried in the same way, only they are submerged in oil and flavorings after being dried.

What Is In This Dip?

To make a quick clarification, there are no olives in this dip, despite what you see in the picture. Additionally, you cannot enjoy this dip with bread if you are cleansing. Now, if you are not cleansing and want to enjoy this dip with a fresh piece of naan or pita bread, knock yourself out! As far as the dip goes, it is made from the following ingredients:

  • Raw cashews: These are great in dips because they are very creamy when blended. They are rich in iron, healthy fats, fiber, magnesium, zinc, and other nutrients.
  • Sun-dried tomatoes: Remember, only purchase the dry-packed sun-dried tomatoes for this recipe. They pack a ton of concentrated tomato flavor, making them great for dips, sauces, and spreads.
  • Garlic: If you are making a savory dish, it would be a shame to omit garlic. It’s great in both raw and cooked preparations, and works impressively well with the flavors in this spread. Garlic offers manganese, selenium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, fiber, and antioxidants like alicin.
  • Lemon: Yet another favorite ingredient of ours, the mighty lemon provides a lovely acidic flavor to this dip. It is also rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, which help fight free radicals and enhance immune function.

In addition to these ingredients, sea salt, paprika, and olive oil help make this dip come to life. Don’t forget that you can add a little water at a time if you need a little assistance blending.

What Is Pitaya?

Pitaya, or dragon fruit, is a low-calorie tropical fruit that has a subtly sweet and somewhat neutral flavor. The fruit has a pink exterior with green leaves, but it can either have white or vibrantly pink flesh inside. The pink pitaya is slightly richer in flavor and nutrients and exhibits a flavor similar to that of an earthy watermelon, but the seeds give it the consistency of a kiwi.

First discovered in Central America hundreds of years ago, this vibrant, tropical fruit has expanded across the globe. May Promote Gut Health

There are trillions of microorganisms that make up the gut microbiome. In various human and animal studies, imbalances in the gut have been linked to poor immune health and more serious problems, such as heart disease. Having a greater amount of beneficial bacteria in the gut positively impacts your overall health. 

Pitaya is a natural source of prebiotics, which work to feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut. Prebiotics, just like all fibers, are not broken down by the gut. The bacteria in the gut can’t digest them, so bacteria essentially use prebiotics as fuel for growth. Regular consumption of prebiotics and probiotics can help reduce the risk of gut disorders. That said, more research is necessary to determine the direct effects of pitaya on gut health. 

Great Source Of Fiber

Fiber is best known for its role in digestion, but many research studies indicate that it may benefit heart function and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Some preliminary research found that diets rich in fiber may help ward off colon cancer, but more research is still necessary in this field. It should be noted that there are no direct studies linking the consumption of pitaya to any of the aforementioned conditions. One cup of pitaya provides 5.6 grams (g) of fiber, which fulfills about one-fifth of the recommended daily intake (RDI). Generally speaking, the average adult should consume 25 to 30 g of fiber per day from food, not supplements.

May Prevent Against Chronic Disease

According to various studies, pitaya contains powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidants. Betacyanins are the antioxidants that give pitaya its beautiful pink exterior. Studies confirm that these antioxidants work to reduce oxidative stress, or damage to cells, caused by an overabundance of free radicals in the body. The body produces free radicals when it breaks down food, or when you expose yourself to radiation, environmental pollution, or cigarette smoke. A buildup of these free radicals can accelerate cell aging and increase the risk of health problems, such as heart disease, arthritis, or cancer. 

The pink-fleshed pitaya contains phenolic compounds, which contribute to the taste, color, and health benefits. A 2021 report found that pitaya has the highest concentration of total polyphenols and antioxidant activity compared to white or yellow dragon fruits. Researchers believe that the microbiome shift caused by the prebiotics in pitaya may help reduce the risk of colon cancer. Protection against other types of cancer may be attributed to the presence of phenolic acids, flavonoids, and other antioxidant compounds, but more research is necessary.

Encourages Healthy Blood Flow

By eating pitaya, you may help to improve overall blood flow throughout the body. It can’t be that simple, right? Not quite, unfortunately, but a small study of 18 younger, healthy people examined the effects of eating 24 g (just under an ounce) of pitaya powder daily, or a placebo. Researchers observed the outcomes that pitaya extract had on artery stiffness, blood pressure, and blood flow. All of these were measured one, two, three, and four hours after consumption, and after two weeks. 

The researchers found that those who consumed pitaya extract showed significant improvements in blood flow two, three, and four hours post consumption compared to the placebo group. Those results remained consistent even after the two-week period. Finally, researchers attribute these benefits to betalain, the plant’s red pigment.

May Help Regulate Blood Sugar

Even though pitaya contains natural sugar, eating it could actually help control your blood sugar levels. Research indicates that the antioxidant compounds in pitaya may help regenerate beta cells in the pancreas. These beta cells make and secrete insulin and amylin, two hormones that help regulate blood sugar levels. The anti-inflammatory properties of pitaya may also play a role in this, as inflammation is a major risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. 

A review from 2017 analyzed four previously published studies. The conclusion was that pitaya had a significant ability to help lower fasting blood sugar levels in people with prediabetes. Although these results were not observed in people with type 2 diabetes, blood sugar reduced significantly when people consumed larger portions of pitaya.
