For most people, the holiday season brings relatives, glorious feasts, and the inescapable spending. They also bring fun in the snow (location dependent), hot cocoa and pumpkin spice, and family outings. That all sounds incredible, except for the fact that it usually comes with holiday stress.

On top of the stress that surrounds the holidays, the change in weather and daylight savings tends to induce seasonal affective disorder. That isn’t the case for everyone, but seasonal depression is a very real thing. What do you do to fight the holiday stress, then? Read on to learn about five mindful tips to help manage holiday stress and actually enjoy this season.

Travel Smart

Do you plan to visit friends and family over the holidays? Holiday travel is quite busy, which is stressful in and of itself. Since you are probably never going to run into the person sitting next to you on the airplane, engage in a little relaxation by pampering yourself. Consider some under eye gel pads to help depute the eyes and provide moisture during travel on a dry plane. Planning ahead is also a great travel tip to reduce stress. Create a packing list and do you packing ahead of time, visualizing the necessities to prevent overpacking. Lastly, pack some hand sanitizer to fight germs and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during your flight.

Gift Yourself A Pampering Experience

Don’t simply limit yourself to an under eye gel pad on the airplane and call it day on self-pampering. Treat yourself to a relaxing experience, such as a massage, facial, or day at the spa using their services. If you want to experiment with a new service, try out acupuncture or cupping, as both of these therapies can help you decompress and release toxins. Feeling a bit more daring? Book a fire and ice therapy and alternate between an ice bath and an infrared sauna to help reduce inflammation and boost your mood.

Plan Ahead

Whether you want to adhere to your diet, stay on top of your work, or keep stress at bay during the holidays, planning ahead is crucial. Maintain a clear calendar with festivities/events you want to attend, but schedule time for self-care as well. Make a list of all the people you want to buy gifts for, or plan out gifts you want to make for specific people. Pick out what outfits you have in your closet that can work with upcoming occasions. Make a mental note when those outfits need to come out, or if you need to bring them on a holiday trip.

Drink Mindfully

Holidays are synonymous with celebrations and libations. If you drink alcohol and plan to drink during holiday functions, prepare yourself properly. Make sure to imbibe slowly and don’t mix with sugary sodas or juices. Additionally, it’s best to take vitamins C and B to help the body get ahead of recovery. Drink electrolytes the following morning, or even the same night, to aid the breakdown of alcohol. That can help your liver detox as you sleep.

Reflect On The Year

Take the time at the end of the year to pat yourself on the back. You made it through another year, which is quite an accomplishment. Look back and see all that you did. Write down the things you are most proud of having done, how you grew as a person and the people you want to thank. Next, think of things you want to manifest in the New Year. Set intentions and go forth with fire! Journaling, or making a gratitude journal, at the end of the year is a great practice. It may even help you release whatever’s been stressing you out this season!

The holidays are just around the corner, which means that fun, excitement, and joyous times are fast approaching. It also means that some inevitable stress is on the way. That stress can be attributed to family dynamics, holiday airport travel, or gift giving. A recent study actually found that a high percentage of Americans have anxiety about the holidays because of budget concerns.

Fortunately for you, we provide lots of DIY beauty recipes that you can make and give as gifts. A little handmade soap, body butter, lotion, or face mask never hurt a soul! Making hand soap is a great idea because it can encourage hand washing, which can help minimize the spread of germs, which spread like wildfire during the winter months. Your gift is not only heartfelt, but may also help avoid getting sick. It’s like you are the holiday health hero!

What’s Wrong With Other Holiday Hand Soaps?

There are many beauty stores that sell holiday-scented hand soaps around this time of year. We are not the biggest fans of those products because a lot of them contain ingredients that can disrupt endocrine function. They may also contain ingredients that can cause immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity. There are many foaming hand soaps with various scents, some of which contain methylisothiazolinone, a known chemical to trigger allergies or immunotoxicity.

Many of those products also contain synthetic fragrances, which can trigger allergies, endocrine disruption, and cause hormonal imbalances. Why risk all of that for a scented hand soap, when you can easily make your own, healthier version in no time? Knowing what goes in your beauty products is not only helpful to your health, but it also gives you confidence about using harmless products. Consider some of the benefits of certain ingredients in this hand soap.

Liquid Castile Soap

This olive oil-based soap is generally mild and a lot safer than other soaps, which are made with animal-based fats or oils, lye, and scents or fragrances. You want to avoid unwanted reactions on the skin, making castile soap a great option. Pure castile soap is all natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, and free of synthetic ingredients. Castile soap is also ethically better and more eco-friendly. In fact, more and more people have started to use it because it reduces a person’s environmental impact. It is also cruelty-free, so you can feel good about using it.

Sweet Almond Oil

Rich in antioxidants and nutrients that benefit the skin, sweet almond oil is a great ingredient to help soothe the skin and hair. Thanks to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, almond oil can be used in various applications. It is a natural emollient that helps to hydrate the skin, enhancing moisture and increasing smoothness. Research indicates that using a hand cream made with sweet almond oil provides relief from hand dermatitis, relieving symptoms like burning, stinging, redness, and itchiness. It is generally safe for most skin types, especially sensitive skin, because it is lightweight.

DIY Candy Cane Hand Soap

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
  • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
  • 15 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops spearmint essential oil
  • Distilled water

Instructions:

  • Pour the soap, glycerin, almond oil, and essential oils into a soap container.
  • Fill the rest of the container with distilled water. Screw on the lid and shake well to combine.
  • You can make custom labels for your soap if making holiday gifts. It gives the soap a personalized and fancy touch.

Even though they may not be as expensive or fancy, handmade gifts tend to mean more than those bought in the store. Obviously, a homemade sugar scrub is not the same as a brand new laptop, but top-tier electronics are not always in the budget. Perhaps the laptop is in the budget, but you want to give a lot of gifts to friends, colleagues, and family. A great way to do that is by making your own beauty gifts.

Heartfelt, homemade gifts always put a smile on the gift receiver’s face. It’s a beautiful gesture and people appreciate the time you took to make them something. The great thing about homemade sugar scrubs, bath bombs, soaps, or lotions is that you can make large batches and portion them out into small containers. Decorate the containers to your liking! You can even adhere labels on them that detail the ingredients or instructions to whatever you make.

Since dry skin is very common during the winter, there are several DIY beauty recipes in this article that help moisturize the skin. There’s nothing wrong with giving a gift that improves skin health! Your gifts may be so well received that you have some repeat customers the following year. Or maybe you share the recipe(s) with your friends and family so they can enjoy the products year round.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season and hope these gifts go over well, should you decide to make and gift them. They are perfect for anyone on a budget, and the best part is that they are free of harmful chemicals. Let us know in the comments if you make one of the recipes, and if the people enjoy them as gifts!

Finding the right gift for special people in your life can prove challenging. That is especially true for those fitness enthusiasts, who seemingly have all the hottest gear and gadgets related to fitness and exercise. You want your gift to be thoughtful and made to last, and it should help the person reach their fitness goals. Remember that your gift should also be the appropriate size for the person you have in mind. It should fit them or it should fit their space.

In order to help you give the best fitness gifts to your fitness friends, we have compiled a list of helpful ideas. Some gifts are directly related to working out, while others are integral to proper recovery. Keep your budget in mind when perusing items from this list, as you don’t necessarily need to blow your bank account to make someone’s holiday season.

Fleece-Lined Leggings

Rain or shine, snow or wind, active people are typically determined to exercise no matter the weather. Cold weather can be a big deterrent for some, but not if they have the right gear. Fleece-lined leggings allow for ease of movement, all while keeping the wearer warm. Great for morning jogs or steep winter hiking trails. There are probably some that are moisture-wicking or water resistant, which could benefit those who live in rainier climates.

Dherbs Active Hoodie

Perfect for the fit woman in your life, the Dherbs Active Hoodie is currently on super sale. It is a cropped, lightweight hoodie made for casual wear and active lifestyles. It has cuffed wrists, a small logo on the chest, and comes in gray and black. The hoodie offers a trendy, flattering silhouette that pairs beautifully with high-waisted leggings or jeans. Click here for more info about the hoodie.

Personal Massage Gun

The great thing about massage guns is how accessible and affordable they have become. About ten years ago, you’d be lucky to find a personal massage gun for $400, and it was likely loud. Now, they are very affordable, quiet, and come with a variety of attachments to maximize recovery. Got a friend or family member that goes a little too hard on leg day? The soothing percussive pulses help alleviate sore muscles. You can even get travel size ones!

Boxing Gloves

Do you know someone who regularly takes boxing or kickboxing classes? Get them a new pair of boxing gloves to encourage their workout hobby. Make sure to get ones that have thick foam padding and ventilation holes to provide airflow to stop sweat from building up during longer sessions.

Essential Oil Diffuser

Add a touch of zen or beautiful aroma to the home with a small, stylish essential oil diffuser. It’s a great little gadget to have, especially if the person loves yoga, meditation, self-care, or just breathing clearly. Pair the diffuser with some high quality peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils and they will be breathing easy in no time!

Running Gloves

First of all, you do not need gloves to run. The gloves help keep your hands warm if you run outside in cold weather. Many of these gloves have touchscreen compatible fingertips that can swipe, touch, or whatever you need on your smartphone or tablet. Most of these gloves have a budget-friendly price point as well!

Resistance Bands

These are perfect for any fitness enthusiast, regardless of their gym membership status. Resistance bands can be used anywhere and help intensify any workout. Make sure you read the reviews, though, as some are cheaply made and tear after minimal use. You can get short-length bands or longer bands that have handles.

The Dherbs Athletic Package

Unlike our other cleanses, you do not have to follow a raw vegan diet. The Athletic Package is a comprehensive pack of herbal supplements that aim to encourage optimal athletic performance. They work to build and nourish the musculoskeletal system for anyone who is looking to get in shape. The complete five-formula regiment also works to support joint health and flexibility.

The holiday season can be very uplifting for a lot of people, but not everyone feels that way. It’s very common for stress to overwhelm the mind and body during this time of year. Perhaps the stress of finding the perfect gift for your loved ones proves too much. Hosting a large family gathering, or traveling to meet family can also induce a lot of stress.

What Are Healthy Boundaries?

Mental health experts agree that setting clear boundaries can make a big difference in preserving your mental and emotional health. A healthy boundary can be defined as such: your list of what is okay and what is not okay. That means you have to clearly establish what you are comfortable with before encountering certain situations. Perhaps you are sober and attend a holiday party. Some friends or family members come and try to get you to drink, but you have to let them know that you are content without imbibing. Your uncle treats you like a child even though you are 40 years old. Whatever the case, you feel frustrated, and that is where healthy boundaries enter the equation.

Define Priorities

Before you even think about setting boundaries, make sure you understand what your priorities are. Are there aspects of the holiday season that are meaningful to you? Is it important to spend time with immediate family, reconnect with old friends, or spend time alone? Make sure to understand your priorities, as that understanding will guide you to set boundaries that set you up for success.

Communicate Openly

Do not be afraid to share your intentions and needs with people. If they truly care about you, then they will respect these boundaries because they are important to you. Honest conversations can prevent conflict and misunderstanding. In fact, your loved ones are more likely to respect your wishes if you explain where you are coming from and why these boundaries matter.

Create A Budget

This is more of a personal boundary that can help you avoid stress regarding gift giving. Financial stress is very common during the holidays, as many people often spend beyond their means. Setting a budget for holiday spending can help you avoid financial stress. That means that you have to plan your budget for holiday gifts, travel, and entertainment expenses ahead of time. The most important thing: stick to that budget!

Politely Decline

You do not have to say yes to every single party invitation or holiday request that comes your way. There is great power in the ability to say no. You can politely decline when you need to, and remember that it is perfectly acceptable to do so. In fact, saying no to things is a great way to conserve your energy for things that matter the most. Whether you know it or not, saying know is a great way to practice self-care and set boundaries simultaneously.

Prioritize Self-Care

Speaking of self-care, it is very easy to forget about yourself during the holidays. It is difficult to take care of yourself when there is so much to do. Find moments for yourself and do things you love during those moments. Go to the gym, watch a movie, read a book, meditate, or practice writing in a journal. Do not be afraid to recharge your batteries and show yourself love. Consider gifting yourself a massage or facial!

Congratulate Yourself

You stood your ground, you said no, you shared what mattered to you, and then some. Great job! Being vulnerable, honest, and respectful is not easy, but you did it! Sometimes, it takes a little force to establish boundaries, but people will respect them if they care about you. People may get upset at your boundaries, but don’t worry about that. Setting boundaries will help you feel more confident about setting new ones when the time comes. At that time, you’ll have the knowledge and power to set them even more clearly!

If you are someone who loves a room with a scent, chances are that friends or family will give you candles this holiday season. Candles are an easy gift to give, and they are even easier to regift if you don’t like the scent. Unfortunately, a lot of candles and air fresheners or wall plug-ins contain harsh chemicals that affect the endocrine system. They can even be harmful for respiratory systems, especially if you have little ones in the house.

Scientific research indicates that there is a lack of oversight in the United States when it comes to the fragrance industry. You may not know it, but you are surrounded by fragrances in shampoos, detergents, makeup, creams, toners, lotions, and so much more. All of these products contain unnamed artificial fragrance blends. There are over 4,000 fragrance ingredients disclosed on the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) transparency list. Many of them are linked to serious health problems, including cancer, hormonal imbalances, and respiratory issues.

Due to copyright laws, though, manufacturers do not have to disclose the ingredients in their fragrance blends. Even fragrance-free products can contain some problematic ingredients on the IFRA transparency list. The unfortunate reality is that many of these ingredients are in a lot of products that you probably use right now. That’s why we encourage you to boycott air fresheners and candles and make the room sprays in this article instead.

DIY Holiday Room Sprays

These holiday room sprays are quick and easy to make, and they make your home smell amazing. What’s even better is that they are free of toxic chemicals and make for excellent gifts, which is great if you are trying to save some money this holiday season. Additionally, you can spray them on your bed to freshen up your linens. A quick note before we provide the recipes is that you should use dark glass bottles for these sprays. The reason for that is because essential oils contain potent compounds that can break down and react when they come in contact with plastic. Essential oils also go bad if exposed to UV radiation.

How To Make Holiday Room Sprays

You will need your dark glass bottles, distilled water (if possible), and high quality essential oils. Make sure that your essential oils are pure because fake essential oils are just as bad as synthetic candles and air fresheners. Finally, you will need witch hazel, which helps combine water and essential oils, allowing the scent to linger in the room for a long time.

Candy Cane

  • 15 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 15 drops spearmint essential oil

A new poll from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) suggests that a dark cloud of stress is looming over the upcoming holiday season. Americans are sweating about the economy, so the stress is more amplified than in years past. The most recent Healthy Minds poll from the APA is just one out of a series of polls to track public sentiment on mental health issues year round.

The latest results come from online interviews that the APA conducted. These interviews took place over two days (November 4th & 5th, 2025), and included more than 2,200 adults. There was a margin of error plus or minus two percentage points for these interviews.

What Is The Biggest Overall Concern?

After analyzing the interviews, researchers found that 75% of all respondents stated that they are very or somewhat anxious about the economy. Close behind that number one concern was healthcare, with 71% saying that they are somewhat or very anxious about that. When the respondents were specifically asked about the upcoming holidays, 41% stated they anticipate more seasonal stress this year compared to years past. That percentage is a significant increase since 2024, which had 28%, and 2023, which had 23%.

The report suggests that 48% of participants were most worried about missing a loved one or experiencing grief. About 46% of participants expressed worry about affording holiday gifts. Researchers noted that one-third of the participants cited concerns about family dynamics or feeling lonely. The poll concluded that one in five participants said that end-of-year holidays have a negative impact on their mental health.

There Is A Bright Side

Nearly 50% of the participants said that the holiday season is a generally positive experience for their mental health. The experience of seeing family and friends, eating delicious food, and giving and receiving gifts were among the top activities participants looked forward to the most. And even though some people dread the holiday season, which can come with some level of stress, it is a time for familial connections, fun, and fellowship. Make the holiday season something to look forward to. After all, research shows that being future-oriented is positive for your mental health.

These Results Do Not Surprise Experts

Mental health experts note that anxiety is one of the most commonly-experienced conditions for adults in the United States. For this reason, the results of the poll are not surprising. Political stress, toxic news cycles, and comparing oneself to unrealistic depictions seen on social media are just a few common causes of anxiety. Additionally, more people feel more comfortable now reporting their experience with anxiety, which also explains the increase in numbers from previous years.

Holiday-induced anxiety can creep up around this time of year, regardless of whatever else is happening. Anxiety tends to show up subtly and may reveal itself through irritability, difficulty concentrating, or tension in the body. Those symptoms occur long before it becomes overwhelming.

Can You Manage Holiday Stress?

The best thing to do if you experience holiday stress is to ask for help. By seeking support from your family members or friends, you can help delegate tasks and lighten your emotional load. It’s also important to simplify your to-do list, as differentiating between necessary obligations and optional tasks can free up some time. Practice gratitude because that’s what the holiday season is truly about. People with regular gratitude practices, such as writing in a gratitude journal, tend to experience more positive physical and emotional benefits. Lastly, if anxiety is too intense or long-lasting, consider professional support. You do not need to tackle it alone, and even the act of seeking help tends to lift a little weight off your shoulders.

If you like cinnamon then you clicked on the right article because these candles are better than any air freshener. Cinnamon candles are very simple to make, but they make up for it in their enchanting, fall-themed scent. They will fill your home with the smell of holiday nostalgia or the changing leaves.

The recipe requires soy wax that you will infuse with cassia essential oil. You can add additional flavors to make cinnamon vanilla or cinnamon apple candles, but that will be at your discretion. Not only do these candles go great in your house, but they also make perfect gifts. If you are the type of person that likes to get a head start on holiday gifts, you can experiment with these candles and start setting them aside. Make the decorations extra nice so you don’t have to rush at the last minute!

Cinnamon Candle Benefits

In aromatherapy, cinnamon essential oil helps to reduce feelings of faintness, exhaustion, and depression. Some people use it to help strengthen libido and immunity, while others use it to reduce joint and muscle pain. When you diffuse cinnamon essential oil in indoor environments, the scent naturally deodorizes and freshens the space. The uplifting fragrance carries throughout the space and has a soothing, therapeutic effect. Many aromatherapists recommend cinnamon essential oil if you want to benefit cognitive functions. It also acts as a natural mosquito repellent!

What Is The Best Cinnamon Essential Oil For Candles?

Cinnamon essential oil can come from the leaves or outer bark of the cinnamon tree. There isn’t just one cinnamon essential oil; rather, there are three different cinnamon oils. Here is a quick overview of those oils:

  • Cinnamon Leaf: This comes from distilling the leaves of the Cinnamomum zeylanicum plant. Cinnamon leaf essential oil has a lighter, muskier cinnamon aroma that is akin to clove’s scent, and the color is slightly amber.
  • Cinnamon Bark: This essential oil comes from distilling the bark of the Ceylon cinnamon plant (Cinnamomum zelanicum, Cinnamomum verum). The oil is slightly red-brown in color and has a warm and spicy scent with a strong undertone of cinnamon.
  • Cassia: Steam-distilled from the bark of the cassia tree (Cinnamomum cassia), cassia essential oil is genetically similar to the Ceylon cinnamon plant species. The oil has a slightly sweet cinnamon smell and is golden brown in color.

All of the above oils are perfectly suitable for candle making. We recommend that you choose cassia essential oil because it has a strong aroma with a hint of sweetness that makes it smell like someone baked cinnamon cookies in the house. It is also more affordable than cinnamon bark essential oil. If you already have a cinnamon essential oil that you prefer, please go ahead and use that.

DIY Cinnamon Soy Candles

Ingredients:

  • 4.5 cups soy wax flakes
  • 200 drops cassia essential oil
  • 4 pre-tapped cotton candle wicks
  • 4 (four-ounce) mason jars

Instructions:

  • First off, you have to prep your candle containers. Make sure they are clean, dry, and free of dust. You have to attach the wick to the bottom of the candle container prior to pouring the wax in the jar.
  • To do that, apply hot glue to the bottom of the wick tap and then adhere it to the bottom of the containers. Allow the glue to harden before moving on.
  • To secure the wick, thread it through a wick-centering device, which ensures that the wick stays centered and doesn’t sway when you pour the wax in the jar.
  • Melt your wax in a medium-sized saucepan over low flame. Stir occasionally until the wax is fully melted and then remove from the heat.
  • Allow the wax to cool to 185º F and then add the cassia essential oil. Stir about 30-40 times to properly combine the wax and essential oil.
  • Pour the wax into the candle jars and allow the wax to set at room temperature overnight.
  • For the best cinnamon candle, seal the container and allow your candles to cure for one or two days. That will allow the wax and essential oil to bind together and build a stronger scent.
  • Trim the wick to a half-inch above the wax before burning for the first time. Light and enjoy the aroma.

Sometimes, money is tight and you cannot afford to buy elaborate gifts for everyone. If you have a little determination and a love for all things DIY, then you can make some very cool homemade beauty gifts. Not only are these more inexpensive, but they are often more heartfelt and personal than a T-shirt or vest.

This holiday season, you can create a luxurious body wash that makes you smell like Christmas cookies. Fair warning: we do not take responsibility for anyone who tries to take a bite out of their shoulder or other body part. You may smell like cookies, but resist the urge to eat yourself!

Normally, when you have a body wash that smells so strongly, it typically contains problematic ingredients. One of those ingredients is methylisothiazolinone, which can irritate the skin, lungs, eyes, and cause immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity. Another toxic ingredient is lilial, which is a known endocrine disruptor. Many popular skin care products that have fun scents usually contain ingredients that receive terrible ratings from the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Not the recipe in this article, though! You can learn more about the ingredients in our Christmas cookie body wash below.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is an emollient, meaning it is excellent for soothing dryness or irritation. Emollients form a film on the skin’s outermost layer, which helps enhance the skin barrier. Almond oil, and other emollients, attract moisture to the skin, prevent the loss of moisture, and help soften scaly or irritated skin. Because it is lightweight and non-irritating, almond oil is generally safe for sensitive skin. It can also help manage chronic skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

Vegetable Glycerin

Used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, vegetable glycerin helps improve hydration, relieve constipation, and moisturize the skin. Also known as glycerol or glycerine, vegetable glycerin is a clear liquid made from coconut, soybean, or palm oils. It is popular in skin care products because it has moisturizing properties. According to research, applying vegetable glycerin to the skin can improve smoothness and supplements. Some studies found that using creams containing glycerin increased hydration in as little as 10 days.

Essential Oils

In order to create that addictive Christmas cookie aroma, you will need a few essential oils. When purchasing essential oils, make sure that you get organic, pure varieties. You do not want diluted essential oils or oils that have other ingredients. Pure essential oils can play a significant role in supporting the overall health of the skin. Many of them exhibit diverse healing and antioxidant properties, but the key to benefitting from those properties is with proper usage. Make sure to properly dilute essential oils in carrier oils to prevent irritation or reactions. Always do a small patch test to avoid complications.
