The lymphatic system essentially acts as the body’s internal drainage system. It is responsible for removing toxins and waste from cells, and a poor-functioning lymphatic system can cause bloating, weakened immune function, and sluggishness. By stimulating lymphatic drainage, you can not only boost immune function, but also clear up the skin and increase energy levels.

In order to promote lymphatic drainage, you have to move the body or encourage lymphatic flow via massage. The lymphatic system collects lymph and returns it to the heart via a network of vessels and nodes. Anything that disrupts this process can cause lymph to accumulate in the arms, legs, ankles, and other parts of the body. Lymphatic drainage works to eliminate harmful toxins and support the body’s ability to recover and heal more efficiently. Several studies note that regular lymphatic drainage promotes improved vitality and overall health.

What Happens During A Lymphatic Massage?

A lymphatic drainage massage involves light pressure and strategic massage patterns that help clean out the lymphatic system. Generally, a massage therapist will stimulate the areas of the body that house your lymph nodes to get the massage started. That means that they will massage the armpits, neck, and (with consent) your groin area. Finally, they will help coax excess lymphatic fluid from your swollen tissues toward the lymph nodes, where the lymph is reabsorbed.

Why Make A Lymphatic Drainage Massage Cream?

A lymphatic drainage cream is a cost-effective way to help improve lymphatic flow. Using the cream in this article can help support the body’s ability to eliminate toxins and excess fluid. It may also enhance lymphatic circulation, reduce swelling in problem areas, and aid the system’s natural detoxification process. Let’s take a look at the ingredients and how they benefit your lymphatic system:

 • Calendula: Known to promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and aid detoxification.
 • Cleavers: This type of herbaceous plant has small, hooked bristles on the stems that allow them to cling to different objects. Cleavers are commonly used in herbal remedies because of their purported lymphatic and diuretic properties. They may stimulate the lymphatic system, increasing the flow of fluid through lymph vessels, which ultimately facilitate the elimination of toxins and waste products.
 • Burdock root: Commonly used in traditional medicine and culinary practices, burdock root exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory effects that support digestive health. These anti-inflammatory properties may also reduce inflamed lymph nodes and reduce congestion in the lymphatic system. In doing so, burdock root may help support lymphatic function and flow. The diuretic properties may also help reduce fluid buildup in the body, helping eliminate toxins and waste products.
 • Yarrow: Researchers note that yarrow works to stimulate lymphatic flow, support detoxification, and reduce inflammation and swelling. It may also enhance immune function and promote overall lymphatic health.
 • Ginger: Like the other ingredients in the cream, ginger helps to stimulate lymphatic drainage and reduce inflammation. It may also support your detox efforts and encourage healthy circulation.

 • Store the jar in an area that gets direct sunlight, such as a windowsill, for two weeks, shaking the jar every few days.
 • Strain the herbs through a fine mesh sieve and collect the oil in a separate jar.

Ingredients For The Cream:

 • Remove the solidified mixture from the fridge and whip it using an electric hand mixer until it is fluffy.
 • Spoon the mixture into a container and store in a. cool, dry place. Massage over lymph nodes during a lymphatic massage to promote lymphatic detoxification.

When it comes to the world of DIY skin care products, some are much better than others. Sometimes, you have to make the recipe a few times in order to get it right. Maybe you tweak a couple ingredients or adjust the measurements to achieve the results you want. We are happy to say that we finally landed on a quality all-natural sunscreen recipe that you will love.

Typically, Americans have to choose between chemical sunscreens and mineral sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens have inferior stability and penetrate the skin, which can disrupt the body’s hormonal system. Mineral sunscreens that contain zinc or titanium tend to contain nanoparticles or they are micronized. With the DIY sunscreen in this article, you do not have to choose between chemical and micronized sunscreens. What you do get is a combination of natural ingredients that help protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Beeswax

For centuries, many cultures have used beeswax for a number of reasons. Traditionally used to make candles, beeswax has a host of health benefits and can be used in various skin and hair care products. The Ancient Egyptians used beeswax to make paint and the Ancient Romans used it to help soften the skin. Today, research studies note that beeswax may form a barrier on the skin, protecting it from dryness and environmental assaults. It also attracts water to the skin, which helps keep the skin hydrated over time. In one study, beeswax and zinc oxide exhibited an ability to protect from UVA and UVB to a certain extent. That said, it had a lower water resistance value than other sunscreens.

Non-Nano Zinc Oxide

Non-nano zinc oxide is the active ingredient in many natural mineral sunscreens. It has been proven to provide broad-spectrum coverage against UVA and UVB rays. The “non-nano” means that you can enjoy all the benefits of zinc oxide in the safest way possible. Non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen is probably the safest for your skin. It doesn’t pose the risk of entering your bloodstream, so you can steer clear of potentially harmful toxins that may exist in commercial sunscreens. Just keep in mind that not all non-nano zinc oxide is created equal. Zinc leaves a white cast on the skin, so some manufacturers have developed nano-sized particles to make it less chalky and more sheer after application.

Jojoba Oil

This oil is a popular ingredient in many natural sunscreen products. Jojoba oil contains both vitamin E and an assortment of antioxidants. One study suggests that the combination of vitamin E and other antioxidant compounds can help protect the skin from sun damage. In addition to the vitamin E that’s naturally present in jojoba oil, the sunscreen recipe in this article also contains vitamin E oil. If you are sunburnt, you can use jojoba oil to help restore moisture and promote healing to soothe the skin.

DIY Sunscreen

Ingredients:

 • 1/2 cup virgin, unrefined coconut oil
 • 1/3 cup jojoba oil
 • 1 tablespoon beeswax
 • 1 tbsp organic shea butter
 • 1/3 cup non-nano zinc oxide
 • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil

Instructions:

 • Add all of the ingredients (except the zinc oxide) to a heat-safe glass bowl.
 • Place the bowl over a pot of shallow, slightly simmering water. Leave on the pot until the ingredients in the bowl are fully melted. Stir every so often to move the process along.
 • Remove the pot from the stove and carefully take the bowl off the pot. Add the zinc oxide powder slowly and stir to combine.
 • Carefully pour this mixture into the container of your choice and store in a cool, dry place. Use when fully cooled.

Oregano, while a common seasoning in marinara sauce, is a staple seasoning in many different cuisines. You can commonly see it in Greek, Italian, Middle Eastern, and Mexican dishes, although Mexican oregano differs from the Mediterranean counterpart. While it enhances the flavor of various dishes from around the world, you might be surprised to learn that oregano oil exhibits impressive health benefits.

What Is Oregano Oil?

Native to Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean, oregano belongs to the mint family. Oregano oil, or oil of oregano, is extracted from different parts of the oregano plant. Once the plant parts have been air-dried, the oil is extracted via steam distillation. You can mix oregano oil with a carrier oil and apply it topically, but should avoid consuming it orally. The reason that it is highly sought after is because oregano contains terpenes, phenols, and terpenoids, all of which are compounds that exhibit impressive antioxidant properties. The primary compounds are:

 • Thymol: is a natural anti-fungal compound that may support the immune system and protect against toxins.
 • Carvacrol: is the most abundant phenol in oregano and may help stop the growth of different types of bacteria.
 • Rosmarinic acid: is a powerful antioxidant that works to protect against free radical damage.

Which Oregano Should You Use To Make Oregano Oil?

There are many varieties of oregano and each has a distinct flavor and characteristics. There is Greek oregano, Mexican oregano, Cuban oregano, and Italian oregano, among others. Greeks refer to oregano as the “ornament of the mountains,” and rightly so, especially considering oregano is the eighth most popular herb in the world.

When you make oregano oil at home, the best choice is common oregano, which exhibits a robust flavor and high concentration of beneficial oils. Greek and Italian oregano varieties are acceptable as well, but avoid Mexican or Cuban oregano. The reason for this is because both of those varieties have different flavor profiles and may not offer the same health benefits. Ideally, use oregano that is organic or grown without pesticides.

Do You Use Dried Or Fresh Oregano?

You can use fresh or dried oregano to make your oil. Just keep in mind that fresh leaves contain more moisture, which can increase the risk of bacteria or mold growth in the oil. If you use fresh oregano leaves, make sure that the leaves are wilted before to avoid excess moisture, as too much moisture can spoil the oil.

The type of oregano you use is just as important as the carrier oil you choose. Ideally, use a high-quality carrier oil with a neutral flavor and stable shelf life, such as extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, or grapeseed oil. Avoid using coconut oil, as it has a distinct flavor and solidifies at cooler temperatures.

Homemade Oregano Oil

Ingredients:

 • 1 handful fresh or dried oregano leaves
 • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

 • If you use fresh oregano, make sure that the leaves are wilted before infusing in the oil to avoid mold growth. You can strip the leaves and air-dry them on paper towels overnight, or you can tie oregano sprigs together and hang in a cool, dry place for several days.
 • When you are ready, add the oregano to a mortar and pestle and crush it lightly to help release the oils. You can also chop oregano on a cutting board to achieve the same result.
 • Pour the oregano into a clean glass jar and then pour the oil into the same jar, making sure to completely submerge the oregano in oil.
 • Seal the jar tightly and place in a warm, sunny spot (like a windowsill) for two weeks to allow the oil to infuse. Make sure to shake the jar gently every day.
 • Once the infusion period is over, strain the oregano from the oil through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Pour the infused oil into a clean, dry glass bottle and store in a cool, dark place to help maintain the oil’s potency.

There are people who just seem to live in the gym. Perhaps that person is your sister or brother, or a friend you love a lot. Maybe they visit health food stores and cannot stop talking about recovery methods or healing modalities. They usually wear athletic attire and carefully watch what they eat. If that sounds like someone you know, then this holiday gift guide is going to come in handy!

’Tis the season to show that wellness enthusiast just how much you’ve been listening to their excitement for sound baths and stretch therapy. Perhaps your friend or family member is looking to embark on a new wellness journey, improve their inner self, or get more involved in different fitness worlds. Whatever the case, we hope you find inspiration from the following list

Dry Brush

We are starting out on the relatively inexpensive side of gifting. A dry brush will likely cost somewhere between $10 and $20, but the benefits are worth it. Dry brushing may help the body eliminate toxins and promote relaxation. The lymphatic system requires stimulation to prevent it from clogging. Dry brushing works to open up the pores and help the body release toxins through sweat, which reduces the amount of toxins that flow through the lymphatic system.

Hiking Shoes

Now, a pair of hiking shoes can be on the pricier side, but think of them as an investment. Maybe save this gift for someone you really love and care about! All jokes aside, a great pair of hiking shoes or boots can save people from ankle injuries, knee pain, and general foot soreness. Shoes that have Vibram soles are excellent!

A Gym Bag

A good gym bag is something that any athletic enthusiast will enjoy. Consider a compact gym bag with lots of pockets, or a larger one if the person you know carries lots of equipment and clothes. Ideally, choose one that has a shoulder strap and one that can easily fit in a locker.

Crystal Ear Seed Kit

Some people love acupuncture and want to get treatment, but they don’t always have the time for it. A crystal ear seed kit can give people similar benefits to acupuncture from the comfort of their own home. The ear seeds stimulate pressure points in the ear, which is a form of acupressure and auriculotherapy. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) reports that energy travels along meridian lines, many of which run through the ears.

Massage Gift Card

Who doesn’t love a free massage? That is especially true if the person you purchase the massage for is pushing it in the gym eight days a week. Treat that special someone to a lovely full-body massage. If possible, make it so they can choose between Swedish, deep tissue, relaxing, sports, or other types of massage if they are all the same price. Alternatively, gift someone a facial or other skin care treatment service, such as a body wrap, peel, or body scrub.

Massage Gun

Everyone can benefit from owning a massage gun. It used to be that they cost upwards of $300, but now there are so many at various price points. There are standard massage guns, mini massage guns (which are great for travel), and percussive massage balls. All of these massage devices can help loosen up fascia, which reduces stiffness and may help improve range of motion.

Essential Oil Diffuser

This is a classic gift for wellness and non-wellness enthusiasts alike. There are so many diffusers available, so you do not need to spend all your money on a specific one you saw on Instagram. They all pretty much do the same thing: diffuser essential oil aroma into a space. You want to pay attention to the essential oils you purchase, though, as many are not 100% pure. Pure essential oils are the best!

Singing Bowl

This gift is for anyone who has expressed interest in sound baths or meditation. A singing bowl is perfect for at-home meditation because the tones can aid with anxiety and stress reduction. Different bowls have different tones when you hit them, and you can search which frequencies benefit what.

Unique Fitness Experience

Be it bungee aerobics, Pilates, spin class, Zumba, or rage therapy, a unique fitness experience is a great gift for wellness enthusiasts. It gives them the opportunity to try something out without having to purchase a membership. If they like the class they try, they can always purchase more classes or get a membership to the facility!

The post 5 Early Warning Signs Of Liver Damage appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and is tasked with several important duties. It works to remove toxins, such as alcohol, from the bloodstream, regulates blood clotting, and aids with bile production. Much like most other organs and systems in the body, the liver is prone to damage based on certain lifestyle habits. The more damaged the liver is, the worse it functions.

It’s estimated that liver disease affects 4.5 million adults in the United States. Liver disease is a broad term that encompasses different conditions, which impair healthy liver function. Liver conditions include liver cancer, hepatitis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Sometimes, symptoms of an impaired liver happen immediately, but they can also take time to show up. Additionally, they usually don’t show up until there is significant liver damage

How do you know when something is wrong with the liver? How do you know what to do to address the problem? Hepatologists want you to know about the five most important warning signs of liver disease, and what to do if you notice them.

Dark Urine, Even If You Are Hydrated

Usually, dark urine indicates dehydration, and it is quite common to see in the morning or after long periods without fluids. Dark urine is also typical for people with liver conditions. This is due to the buildup of bilirubin, which causes urine to appear dark orange, brown, or amber in color. If you regularly hydrate and still notice issues with urine color, something else is likely afoot, so consult your healthcare provider to determine the cause.

Swelling In The Legs, Ankles, Or Abdomen

Swelling may not be the first thing you associate with the liver, but swelling in the legs and feet may indicate a problem in the body. This is especially true when you have cirrhosis, or scarring of the liver. Cirrhosis basically slows the flow of blood through the liver and increases pressure in the vein that delivers blood to it. The pressure in the portal vein, as it is called, can lead to fluid buildup in the legs and abdomen. The swelling may also occur if the liver cannot produce enough of certain blood proteins, such as albumin.

Yellowing Of The Skin Or Eyes

Jaundice, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, can be a subtle sign of liver disease. Jaundice occurs when there is excess bilirubin, which is a pigment created during the breakdown of red blood cells. The liver typically processes bilirubin and removes it from the body, but too much can cause jaundice and other liver issues. High levels of bilirubin, however, are not always a concern for adults, which is why it is crucial to speak with your healthcare provider if you notice jaundice.

You Bleed Or Bruise Easily

It is possible for people with liver damage to bruise or bleed easily when injured. The reason this happens is because the liver produces proteins necessary for blood clotting. If the liver is not functioning optimally, then you are at greater risk of bleeding or bruising easily.

Confusion

It is perfectly normal to forget things from time to time. You walk out of the house without your lunch after just packing it, or you can’t find your sunglasses, which you put on your head. You should not ignore major changes in your mental state, though, as they may indicate liver problems or other underlying issues. A person who is generally healthy can develop acute liver failure, which can manifest in mental changes or disorientation, even personality changes.

What To Do If You Think You Have Liver Damage

Do not dismiss liver issues, so do not dismiss these symptoms if you notice them. It is common for people to experience liver problems if they have type 2 diabetes, drink alcohol heavily or moderately, or share needles. It is also common to experience liver problems if there is a family history of liver disease. Discuss any liver damage symptoms with your doctor to determine the right course of action. Stool changes, appetite changes, and exhaustion are also symptoms of liver problems.

The post How To Boost Your Child’s Immunity When They Go Back To School appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

The back-to-school season is a time for new opportunities and beginnings. For some students, especially those with compromised immune systems, the susceptibility to illness increases. Protecting your child(ren) and yourself against common colds or other infections that circulate the classroom can be a lot easier with the right steps in place.

Developing a back-to-school routine is a challenge in and of itself. Waking up earlier, establishing a quick and efficient routine, and leaving the house on time can prove difficult, especially after summer vacation. Many health officials state that immune health is tied to diet, sleep, and exercise. Building a healthy diet and establishing movement and proper sleep hygiene can enhance immune function, which your child needs as they face the new school year. Hopefully, the following tips can help better prepare your child’s immune system for the back-to-school reality.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

The Sleep Foundation encourages school kids between the ages of six and 13 to get nine to 11 hours of sleep every night. Without sufficient sleep, the body has a more difficult time regulating biological rhythms. Not to mention, insufficient sleep makes the body more susceptible to sickness. If you or your child has trouble sleeping, there are practices that have proven to be quite effective. Click here to learn more about methods that help you fall asleep.

Drink Water

Water is essential for a healthy life because it has many roles in the body. Not only does it help with waste elimination, but it also helps the immune system function optimally. If the body is in a dehydrated state, it cannot effectively produce white blood cells, which help fight off bacteria, pathogens, and viruses. Drinking plenty of water can also help flush toxins from the body, which keeps the immune system functioning optimally. Need help getting your kiddos to drink more water? Spice it up by adding fresh fruit to the water, or consider blending some fruit with water to make a healthier rendition of a punch.

Eat The Right Foods

Dietitians agree that one of the best ways to boost the immune system is to eat the right foods. Focus on fruits and vegetables because they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that boost the function of immune cells. High-fiber foods also work to maintain a healthy digestive system. What foods do you eat to encourage better immune function? Consider packing the following snacks in your child’s lunch:

 • Oranges: One orange can have up to 75% of the daily value (DV) of vitamin C
 • Mandarins: Mandarins pack a considerable amount of vitamin C and make for the perfect lunch snack. They are easy to peel, easy to put in lunches, and their seedlessness makes them easy to enjoy!
 • Sunflower seeds: Make sure to opt for the unsalted, shell-less sunflower seeds because they are very easy to eat. Sunflower seeds are also rich in vitamin E, which exhibits antioxidant effects in the body.
 • Almonds: Similar to sunflower seeds, almonds are naturally rich in vitamin E, which helps to fight off free radicals and boost immune function. They also contain heart healthy fats, protein, and lots of fiber.
 • Broccoli: It may be very difficult to get your child to eat broccoli, but it is an excellent source of vitamin C and sulforaphane, both of which encourage immune function. Sneak broccoli into meals like broccoli tater tots or fruit smoothies!

Exercise Regularly

It’s no secret that kids like to run amok like they haven’t a care in the world. The important thing to remember is to not let your child immediately plop on the couch or bed and watch TV or play video games from the time they get home to the time they go to bed. Even if your child is active in school sports or playground activities, make sure they remain active outside of school hours. This is especially important as they progress through the year and the weather starts to cool off.

Maintain A Healthy Weight

Childhood obesity is a serious problem in the United States, and it puts children and adolescents at risk for poor health. Between 2017-2020, 19.7% of children between the ages of two and 19 were affected by obesity. Obesity prevalence between two- and five-year-olds amounted to 20.7%, and 22.2% among six- to 11-year-olds. Data revealed that obesity prevalence was higher in Hispanic and non-Hispanic Black children than it was in non-Hispanic White children and non-Hispanic Asian children. Aside from decreased immune function, obesity increases the child’s risk of other health problems. Consult your family doctor if you notice the child’s weight is becoming a problem.

]]>

As a child, your parents tell you to clean your room or take care of other household chores. When you graduate to adulthood, the cleaning doesn’t stop. The only difference is that you don’t have someone bribing you with an allowance to clean your space. If you decide to have kids of your own, you will likely find out that they aren’t so neat. The moral of the story: the cleaning cycle never ends.

We don’t mean to sound like defeatists, but cleaning is a part of life. If you are a maker of messes, you have to know how to clean up properly. If you clean up after your kids, you may want to consider using natural cleaning products, as the harmful chemicals in commercial products may be dangerous to young ones. You can also reduce your own risk of chemical exposure by switching to all-natural cleaning products that you make yourself.

Why Make Your Own Natural Cleaner?

First of all, it can be very difficult to create or find an all-purpose and all-natural cleaning spray. Maybe you experiment with a concoction of your own, only to find that it really doesn’t do much. The cleaning power of the all-purpose cleaner in this recipe uses essential oils, borax, vinegar, and castile soap to help remove grime, soap scum, and everyday dirt.

Making your own cleaner takes less than a minute, and you can save money in the process. It is eco-friendly and free of the toxins found in many conventional household cleaning sprays. Plus, you can customize the surface cleaner by adding different essential oils that work for you.

Borax

You can incorporate borax into an all-purpose cleaning spray and use it on countertops, appliances, and windows. Some people find that it is highly effective at removing tough stains, dust, and food residue. You can often combine borax with water, shake it up, and pour in a spray bottle for use. In the case of this all-purpose cleaner, you combine it with other ingredients for safe and effective cleaning. If you are weary about using borax, you can always omit it from the recipe.

Essential Oils

First of all, not all essential oils are created equal. There are many essential oils out there, but a lot of them are not pure essential oils. That means that other ingredients are added, so you won’t get the maximum benefits. When making a cleaning product, make sure to add your essential oils last to the spray bottle. Oils and water don’t mix well, so make sure to give your bottle a good shake prior to use.

Washing Soda

Washing soda is different from baking soda. Baking soda is usually used alongside detergent to help get rid of stains or foul odors. It is usually gentler than washing soda, so it is not as efficacious. Washing soda is like a more amped-up version of baking soda that does a better job of removing stains and brightening colors when doing laundry. If used in excessive amounts and too frequently, though, it can be harsh on certain materials, specifically fabrics.

Natural All-Purpose Cleaner

Ingredients:

 • 1 teaspoon borax
 • 1 teaspoon castile soap
 • 1/2 teaspoon washing soda (not baking soda)
 • 4 drops lemon essential oil
 • 4 drops lavender essential oil
 • 10 drops orange essential oil
 • 2 cups distilled water

Instructions:

 • Place the borax, castile soap, washing soda, and essential oils in an amber glass spray bottle.
 • Pour in the distilled water until the glass is nearly full. Make sure to leave room for the sprayer to slide into the bottle.
 • Screw on the lid, shake well, and use as needed. It is great for bathrooms, kitchen, or even on toys.

When you sweat, the body loses the fluid that keeps it hydrated. In addition to losing water, the body also loses electrolytes, putting you at risk of dehydration. To avoid dehydration, you have to continually replenish fluids as you sweat them out. Water is an obvious solution, but enhancing your beverage intake with electrolytes is even better.

The Importance Of Electrolytes

If you have seen the movie, Idiocracy, you probably know that electrolytes are what plants crave. People in the movie can no longer grow crops because they pour sports drinks on the soil. To be completely honest, sports drinks don’t do a great deal for your body, unless you are working so hard that you can burn off all the sugar that comes with them.

Electrolytes are a category of electrically charged minerals that the body both produces and derives from different foods and beverages. Such minerals include potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphate, and chloride. All of these electrolytes are vital if you want to sustain a healthy body and mind. They balance your fluid levels, maintain healthy blood pH, and keep the nerves, muscles, and brain cells firing. They also work to transport nutrients to cells throughout the body and excrete toxins from healthy cells. Basically, they are more than just workout fuel.

Signs Your Body Needs Electrolytes

The body will let you know if it needs something, but you have to know your body and pay attention to it in order to read the cues. It lets you know if it needs any macro- or micronutrients in your diet. When your body needs electrolytes, you’ll want to pay attention to the following signs. Doing so can help you avoid dehydration and other serious health outcomes that result from that.

Your Stomach Is Upset

If you feel nauseous or have gastrointestinal issues, you may need more electrolytes. Obviously, these two symptoms can result from myriad things. According to health experts, a lot of runners can experience nausea at the end of long runs. Experts experimented with giving runners more sodium prior to, during, and after runs to alleviate nausea, and it proved effective.

Your Heartbeat Isn’t Normal

Need more proof that electrolytes are vital to overall health? Well, this is it. Functional medicine experts and dietitians note that electrolytes like calcium and potassium support proper heart rhythm. Any imbalance can lead to abnormal heart rhythm, rapid heartbeat, or palpitations. Severe electrolyte imbalances may even pose a threat to your heart. For this reason, always make sure that you have optimal electrolyte levels at all times. You can always check in with your doctor if you are unsure about your levels.

Your Sodium Levels Are Low

In severe cases of an electrolyte deficit, a person may experience hyponatremia, a condition stemming from low sodium levels. This usually happens if someone does not replace their sodium that they lose via sweat. Hyponatremia, however, is a serious medical condition that causes mental confusion, lethargy, muscle weakness, and nausea. Severe cases may even cause death, so talk to your doctor if you experience these symptoms after a long day of sweating.

You’re Just Feeling Off

Notice any sudden mood swings or find yourself to be more irritable than usual? Dietitians say that you are most likely lacking electrolytes. Electrolyte imbalances can occasionally affect brain function, resulting in irritability, mental confusion, or even mood swings.

Your Muscles Are Cramping Or Weak

As mentioned in the beginning of the article, electrolytes aid with proper muscle and nerve function. If you experience cramps or muscle weakness, your body is likely telling you that you need to replenish your electrolytes. When you are active, the body uses more of these nutrients, so replenishing them regularly can help you avoid these problems.

Electrolytes are just as essential as any vitamin or mineral, so you should incorporate them into your daily diet. Most people don’t get enough electrolytes on a daily basis because the Standard American Diet is devoid of many micronutrients. Pay attention to your body and it will communicate when it needs more electrolytes.

If you are trying to secure some Ozempic for yourself, you better make sure you aren’t buying fake GLP-1 drugs. High prices and market shortages make certain websites very appealing to consumers, but counterfeit drugs can pose serious health risks. How can you know what’s in these fake drugs? Should you want to start using Ozempic, make sure to verify the legitimacy of any only pharmacy you use.

GLP-1 drugs, like Ozempic, increase insulin sensitivity and stimulate insulin secretion. These drugs also reduce blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Because they can make you feel full, they have become a popular drug to promote weight loss, especially amongst overweight or obese people. Unfortunately, GLP-1 drugs can be very expensive without insurance. One carton of Ozempic, for example, can cost about $1,000 at U.S. pharmacies.

All of these factors create opportunities for people to sell fake prescription drugs, ultimately taking advantage of consumers. One report found that social media websites were popular spaces for promoting fake drugs. Of the 3,968 fake listings removed in 2023, almost 60% were found on Facebook. Some experts believe that these fake sites target Facebook because the users tend to be a little older and less likely to spot a scam.

Why Are Fake Drug Websites So Dangerous?

Registered dietitians have given remarks about the recent emergence of fake GLP-1 drugs. They say that the biggest danger with buying from fake drug websites is that you don’t know what you are getting. You take a big risk when you take an unregulated drug because it could contain anything. What’s the best case scenario? You get an inert placebo. On the other side of the coin, you could put something incredibly dangerous in your body.

One of the major risks with taking these fake drugs is that they could be laced with heavy metals and other harmful toxins. Hundreds of ER visits every year are due to severe allergic reactions or lead poisoning, which people acquired from unknown sources. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also indicates that because most GLP-1 drugs are injected, the risk of infection is high, considering the sterility of needles can’t be confirmed. Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, notes that you cannot confirm the efficacy of fake medications. That could be very dangerous for people who use these meds to control blood sugar

How To Know If You Are Buying Fake Medications

The language on the sites selling fake medications is typically the same copy on real online pharmacies. Fake sites use deceptive tactics to not only appear genuine, but also to fool consumers. In fact, some sites will copy the branding and logos of reputable pharmaceutical companies. The discounted price is a big factor that tends to entice consumers who don’t want to pay the full price tag. It’s like looking for an item on a website and then looking somewhere else for the knock-off version. If you want to determine the legitimacy of the medication, consider the following:

 • Beware of suspiciously low prices: Super discounts could mean that the product is expired or counterfeit.
 • Use reputable online pharmacies: Make sure that the contact information is verified and that the payment methods are secure. Additionally, look for accreditation from authorities.
 • Look for accreditation: Verified seals or certifications can indicate credible websites. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy provides a database of credible pharmacies.
 • Verify the credentials: Before you make the purchase, make sure that the pharmacy has an active license in the state where it dispenses the medications. If it looks suspicious or you don’t have a good feeling about it, abort the mission.
 • Check the authenticity of the medication: Make sure to research the appearance of the medication, how it’s packaged, and the manufacturer before you order or use it. Compare what you are looking at with the real medication. Novo Nordisk, for example, may offer real and fake photos to help you discern the real meds from the fake ones.
