If you have an excess of grapefruit in your home, either because you bought a bunch or you have a tree, you want to use them before they go bad. Making fresh grapefruit juice to enjoy is a lovely idea, but you may not want to drink a lot for several days straight. Fresh-squeezed juice expires in a matter of days, unlike store bought juice, which contains preservatives. You can incorporate fresh grapefruit juice into many things, such as smoothies, salads, desserts, or salad dressings.

Adding fresh grapefruit juice to a homemade salad dressing adds a lovely, surprisingly sweetly tart flavor. It adds a little extra zest, especially when you pair it when the apple cider vinegar. Plus, you never really see a dressing that includes fresh grapefruit juice, and it’s never a bad idea to have a few homemade dressings sitting in the fridge, especially if you are cleansing. You want to make sure that you vary your dressings and your salad ingredients to keep your taste buds interested in salads. That isn’t to say that you have to eat salad for every meal, but it is an easy and viable meal option for many of our cleansers.

When it comes time to make the vinaigrette, it is nice to use a blender because it helps emulsify the ingredients into a smooth dressing. You can whisk the ingredients together in a bowl, or you can even add them to a jar, screw on the lid, and shake well to combine. The resulting vinaigrette will not be as smooth. Additionally, if you choose not to blend the dressing, juice the grapefruit by hand, because you can just toss the grapefruit pieces into the blender without juicing if you go that route.

Eating seasonally is not a new concept, but it is a concept that more people should embrace. Many restaurants have seasonal menus, prioritizing the produce they can get during the given season. Most people have access to all sorts of produce items all year long because of importing. The reality is that different foods grow better at different times of the year, which affects its peak harvest season.

Have you ever noticed that strawberries and melons just taste better in the summer? Sweet potatoes and parsnips thrive in the fall and things like asparagus, spinach, turnips, carrots, kiwi, plantains, and more thrive in spring. We believe that you should get your hands on as many seasonal produce items as you can before the season ends. Plus, eating seasonally means that the fruits and vegetables you eat have a higher nutrient content. That is because produce items are richer in nutrients during peak ripeness.

Eating seasonally is also a more sustainable way to live. It is a small effort you can make to lower the environmental toll associated with food transportation. You can easily purchase seasonal produce locally, either from farmers’ markets or local grocery stores. Lastly, eating seasonally can benefit your wallet, as in-season produce items tend to cost less than when those items are out of season and have to be imported from far away places that can grow them year round.

There is something to be said about a simple salad recipe. You don’t need a lot of ingredients and complex flavors to make something shine. That’s why this salad only has one main ingredient: cucumber, which is refreshing, crunchy, and the perfect vessel for almost any dressing. Coat it in a vibrant vinaigrette or creamy tahini dressing inspired by Mediterranean flavors. For this recipe, we took inspiration from a classic Chinese appetizer or side and tweaked it to fit the raw vegan criteria.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) cucumber is a cleansing ingredient, helping detoxify the body and reduce high blood pressure. Because of its inherent “cooling” element, TCM thought it to ease the body’s internal heat. Cucumbers also have a rich water content (about 95%), so you can enhance your hydration efforts by eating them. They contain essential vitamins like K and C, and their antioxidant content, especially the flavonoids, fights against oxidative stress. Additionally, the fiber and potassium help support heart health and healthy blood pressure.

The key to this salad’s success lies in the smashing of the cucumbers. Ideally, use a heavy cleaver or rolling pin to smash the cucumber. This technique creates lots of jagged edges and crevices for the dressing to penetrate. Once you wash and dry the cucumbers, place them on a cutting board and lay your large knife flat against one at a time. Smash it lightly with your other hand and the cucumber should open and smash into sections. Repeat across the cucumber and then cut it into bite-size pieces.

Enjoy a fresh and healthy entree that is as filling as it is flavorful and vibrant. This raw vegan zoodle dish combines the creaminess of avocado with the crunch of zucchini. Don’t think of this as just another meal; rather, consider it an experience that nourishes your body while also having incredible flavor. Spice up your raw vegan dinner routine by taking a break from salads and go the extra few steps to land yourself in the right place.

If you have been missing pasta during your cleansing experience, this is your chance to twirl your fork around a healthier, less carb-centric version. It is also less calorically dense than a traditional bowl of pasta. The luxurious avocado pesto perfectly coats the zoodles, and even though it feels heavy, it is actually quite light. Unlike other pesto recipes, this one contains a lot of healthy fats because of the avocado. Healthy fats also come from the walnuts, which we used in place of pine nuts, which can be quite costly. During times of high-priced food, we want to help you keep costs low while trying to eat as healthy as possible.

When it comes to making zoodles, we recommend that you spiralize them and then add them to a strainer. Lightly season them with sea salt to help draw out excess moisture and allow them to sit for 10 minutes. Once you do that, pat the zoodles dry with some paper towels. They are now ready for you to toss in the pesto sauce. You do not have to go that extra mile, but it does yield crunchier zoodles that are not as full of water.

Without the lungs, you cannot survive. They are vital organs responsible for the delivery of oxygen throughout the body and the removal of carbon dioxide. With increasing levels of pollution and toxins in the environment, it is easy for the lungs to become overwhelmed and unable to function optimally.

The good news is that there are many natural remedies, such as our Lungs & Respiratory formula, that help cleanse and nourish the lungs. If you do not cleanse the lungs, irritants, pollutants, and other toxins can build up in them, causing inflammation, respiratory issues, and potential health conditions like asthma. Lung cleansing helps improve overall respiratory health, making it easier to breathe and reducing the risk of respiratory infections.

How Can Herbs Assist?

For centuries, people have used herbs or herbal remedies to treat various health conditions, including respiratory problems. Many herbs exhibit antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties that work to cleanse the lungs. Upon consumption, the herbs in this article may help eliminate toxins and mucus from the lungs, which ultimately reduces inflammation and promotes better respiratory health. Continue reading to learn which herbs are helpful for eliminating mucus from the lungs.

Hyssop

Exhibiting strong expectorant properties, hyssop can help clear out entrenched phlegm that gets stuck in the lungs. Hyssop is an antispasmodic herb, meaning it helps relieve spasms in the respiratory system and soothes coughs. Studies have found hyssop syrup to be effective for asthmatic patients with productive cough and higher body mass index (BMI). Other studies found it to be effective for cough relief.

Licorice Root

Licorice root has been used in various traditional medicinal applications. It acts as a soothing agent, demulcent, coating agent, and an expectorant, meaning it works to loosen mucus and make it easier to expel from the lungs. It is also a naturally sweet herb, containing a compound that is nearly 50 times sweeter than sugar.

Elecampane Root

Regarded for its ability to promote better respiratory health, elecampane tea exhibits several promising characteristics for optimal lung health. For example, elecampane root has expectorant, sedative, anti-fungal, relaxing, antitussive (cough suppressant), warming, and antimicrobial properties. Various studies confirm that elecampane can help soothe bronchial tube linings, in addition to serving as an expectorant to facilitate lung cleansing. In the 1800s, cough drops and lozenges were made from elecampane root.

Peppermint

Peppermint is another herb that offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Containing menthol, peppermint can help relax the muscles in the respiratory tract, which makes it easier to breathe more easily. If you have a sore throat or cough, peppermint can also benefit you in this regard. Consume peppermint in the form of tea or add some peppermint essential oil to a diffuser and inhale the steam for a quick lung cleanse.

Elderflowers

Elderflower is an astringent that is somewhat drying, but it manages to moisten the internal mucus membranes. It exhibits antiviral properties that benefit head colds or infections in the upper respiratory tract. Elderflower is a key herb in many herb blends that benefit lung health and immune function. In addition to the flower, elderberries offer lots of vitamins A & C, antiviral properties, and iron that is easy for the body to absorb.

Oregano

Popular in various culinary applications, oregano has potent medicinal properties. Researchers note that carvacrol, a compound in oregano, exhibits antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Oregano may help clear mucus from the lungs and reduce inflammation, making it effective for lung cleansing.

Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow root is a prominent ingredient in our Lungs and Respiratory formula, and for good reason. It is a demulcent herb that may help relieve swelling and irritation of mucus membranes, in addition to soothing the respiratory tract. Research shows that it acts like a protective film on inflamed mucosa, making it effective for soothing a dry cough.

Refreshing Garlic Dill Cucumbers https://www.dherbs.com/recipes/recipe/refreshing-garlic-dill-cucumbers/ Sat, 14 Feb 2026 17:31:00 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?post_type=recipe&p=177504

First thing’s first: these are not pickles, despite their appearance. You can make the argument that they are, but we don’t classify them as such because the cucumbers do not pickle in a liquid. Additionally, you do not heat up the liquid to poor over the sliced cucumbers. Should you want to cut the cucumbers into spears, not rounds, you can do that as well. It’s a matter of preference because the flavor will be just as delicious no matter the shape.

These garlic dill cucumbers bring a refreshing, slightly tangy and herbaceous flavor to any potluck or simple weeknight dinner. Even though it is winter, this recipe will bring your taste buds into summer. It’s a timeless classic and you haven’t even tasted it yet! It balances the tangy, brininess of apple cider vinegar, fresh dill, and savory garlic. It’s also low in calories, low in carbohydrates, and a unique way to enjoy cucumbers. And believe us when we tell you that changing up the flavors of your veggies is paramount when you are trying to keep your taste buds interested while cleansing.

We recommend English cucumbers for this recipe because they have a thinner skin and minimal seeds, compared other cucumber varieties. If you have Persian cucumbers or hot house cucumbers, you can use them as well, but you may want to scoop out the seeds prior to marinating them in the liquid. You can also adjust the sweetness level to your liking, adding more or less maple syrup. Start small and go from there because you can always add more. Finally, you can serve this dish after a quick marinade, or you can marinate the cucumbers for four hours. The choice is yours, but it will be delicious no matter what.

At Dherbs, we strive to post unique recipes that fall into two categories: cleanse-approved and post-cleanse. The former category is for anyone who is looking to make food while using one of our many cleanses, while the latter is for anyone looking to eat healthy. One of the most popular things to enjoy while cleansing, especially for breakfast, is a smoothie. Rather than boring your taste buds with the same old smoothie every day of your cleanse, mix it up and get seasonal. That’s why we brought you this fall-inspired fig smoothie.

This spiced fall smoothie tastes similar to one of those fig bars that children eat. It has warming spices and is a pleasant alternative to pumpkin, which has been a featured ingredient in many of our recent recipes. We love a good pumpkin recipe, as it exhibits impressive healthy benefits, but figs also need a little love and appreciation. In many cultures, figs have long been used as a natural remedy for digestive issues. Figs contain a lot of fiber, which may help regulate bowel movements and reduce the risk of constipation. Fiber also acts as a prebiotic, which feeds the healthy bacteria in the gut.

Figs may also play a role in improving cardiovascular health. A 2023 review of some animal studies found that supplementing with fig leaf improved blood pressure, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. More human studies are necessary to better understand fig’s relationship to better cardiovascular health. Additionally, test-tube studies found that fig leaves exhibit anti-tumor activity against human breast, colon, lung, and cervical cancers, among a few others.

So…you have decided to cleanse. First of all, we want to commend your decision to do so, as it is a great investment in your overall health. Think of cleansing like taking your car in for service. Sometimes, you just need to flush the systems and replenish it with new fluids so it can drive smoothly. That’s exactly how you want your body to run: smoothly. While eating right and drinking water may be on your mind, you may also be wondering how to workout during your cleanse

Can I exercise while cleansing?” This is a question we receive quite a bit. We give a resounding “YES” to this question, but suggest that you listen to your body in this time of change. You are eating fewer calories and may not have the energy that you usually do. Listen to your body in order to exercise safely. Physical activity actually boosts the detoxification process, as it stimulates lymphatic flow, blood circulation, respiration, and promotes sweating. Additionally, it may improve digestion and the function of the kidneys, lungs, liver, and more.

One thing to note about exercise is that it is not the leading role in your cleanse. The best workout routines to do while cleansing are ones that elevate your heart rate slightly and help you break a sweat. Be kind and gentle to the body as you transition into this new dietary pattern and you’ll reap the results without suffering. No matter if you are doing a 10-day or a 20-day cleanse, the following workouts can help promote detoxification and support cleansing efforts.

Foam Rolling

Is this even an exercise? That is up for debate, but it is a form of myofascial release, which essentially releases the lymphatic fluid in your muscles. Foam rolling does more than just benefit your muscles! The connective tissue found throughout the entire body also receives the benefits that come from foam rolling. By releasing the tension in the tissue, you promote vitality within the fascia, which are small fibers responsible for giving muscles shape and tone.

Light Cardiovascular Exercise

Aerobic exercise is a form of exercise that gets your heart going. The lungs take in oxygen for the body’s necessary detoxification processes. It’s important to understand that you have to keep your heart rate steady by maintaining intensity. That’s when you’ll experience the most benefits. Some examples of light cardio include walking, cycling, hiking, using an elliptical machine, or engaging in a few quick interval circuits.

Dance

Yes, dance…as if nobody is watching. If you hate walking on the treadmill or cardio in general, you can amp up your heart rate by dancing. Pump up the jams, literally, and dance whether you are alone or hitting up the nearest Zumba class. In fact, Zumba is a top-notch cardiovascular workout! A detoxifying workout does not have to be conventional; rather, it can be a fun activity that feels good for your body. Zumba classes are usually very supportive and, more importantly, fun as can be!

Rebounding

This is a fun exercise that’ll take you back to the days of being a carefree child. Rebounding is a form of exercise that involves jumping on a small, springy trampoline (a rebounder). Due to its low-impact nature, it is a great cardiovascular exercise for older adults. The low-impact bouncing stimulates the lymphatic system, while also improving circulation and cardiovascular health. Some research suggests that it may even benefit bone density and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Yoga

Could yoga be the quintessential detoxifying exercise? Some people think of yoga as glorified stretching, but it is a great way to improve flexibility and enhance core strength. Don’t worry about mastering 100 poses or grounding your flow. The point of yoga is to give frequently used muscles attention and love, and to build strength in small muscle fibers that don’t get a lot of love. By twisting, stretching, bending, and folding, you can help soothe the body into a lean, mean, detoxifying machine.

At Dherbs, we receive a lot of questions related to cleansing, most of which are about diet. People want to know what they can and cannot eat while cleansing. Another common question is, “Can I workout while cleansing?” It is completely fine to exercise while cleansing, but you have to be more in tune with your body while doing so. Allow your body the time, room, and space it requires to digest, process, reset, and restore, especially regarding its natural capabilities and functions.

If you are a fitness enthusiast and love getting in a good workout, you may be tempted to give it your all while cleansing. Remember that you are not eating as many calories and have to listen to your body, so as not to push it too much. Ideally, engage in light- to moderate-intensity physical activity. Aerobic exercise tends with light strength training is what we usually recommend, as both promote detoxification via sweat, lymphatic drainage, and healthy circulation

Tailor Exercise To Your Cleanse

While cleansing, choose the right intensity and type of exercise that supports your body. The last thing you want to do is put undue stress on a body that is out of its element. Low-impact activities, such as yoga, walking, gentle Pilates, swimming, and biking, are great options. These exercises help maintain a steady heart rate while promoting stress reduction. If you want to focus on mindfulness during your cleanse, consider focusing on yoga, Tai Chi, and stretching.

Always Listen To The Body

Since you have to follow a raw vegan diet, you are not consuming as many calories as you would outside the cleanse. That isn’t to say that you eat an unhealthy diet, but it is to say that most foods in the American diet are calorically dense. Some people who cleanse may have more energy than others. If you feel up to it, engage in a more strenuous workout that gets your  blood pumping. Just make sure to listen to your body and strike a balance between feeling drained and revitalized.

Measure Progress And Celebrate Achievements

It is very common to notice changes in the body while cleansing. You may notice that your skin looks clearer and that your mind isn’t as foggy. We hope you notice some weight loss if that is your goal! Keep track of your progress, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Celebrate the wins, even the small ones, such as completing a yoga flow or walking an extra mile. A positive mindset goes a long way in helping you succeed while cleansing

Always Hydrate

You will be drinking more water than usual while cleansing, but pay extra attention to water intake when exercising. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout to support the detoxification process and prevent dehydration. Additionally, fuel the body with nutrient-dense foods before and after the workout to encourage energy and muscle repair. Leafy greens, chia pudding, nuts, energy balls, and smoothies can be great options to provide energy.

Embrace Movement

Whether you are just starting your fitness journey or building on your love of exercise, one thing is for certain: movement is better than no movement at all. When you exercise regularly, you can enhance your metabolism, which increases the body’s ability to eliminate toxins. Plus, engaging in low-impact workouts can help reduce inflammation, promote better digestion, and improve sleep quality.

It’s safe to say that Dherbs CEO A.D. Dolphin is no stranger to weight loss. He’s been referred to as “The King of Weight Loss” during his numerous appearances on Steve TV with Steve Harvey. With that title comes great responsibility, which is why he’s made it his mission to help Bigg Jah, Ryan Davis, and Onyika lose weight and transform their health and appearance as part of the ICAN Challenge.

What Is The ICAN Challenge

Now in its third season, the ICAN Challenge is Dolphin’s documentary series that follows two participants per season. For reference, season 1’s total weight loss came close to 300 pounds! It was one of Dolphin’s proudest moments in his career, primarily because it was the most intensive weight loss challenge he’s ever been a part of. The plan for the challenge was simple:

  • Use the Full Body Cleanse to help clean out participants’ bodies and get rid of that unwanted waste and weight.
  • Help them develop smart workout and eating habits.
  • Make sure they have the tools they need to emerge from this process and stick to a healthy lifestyle.

The Goal Of The ICAN Challenge

The primary goal is for people to change their lives for the better and emerge from the challenge more knowledgeable about food and exercise. With Dolphin’s assistance, contestants should leave the challenge and exercise the same way they did on the challenge, and eat better than they did prior to the challenge’s start. Naturally, it becomes more difficult to do that when you don’t have Dolphin watching your every move. Just to be clear, convenience is nobody’s friend! Losing weight is difficult, but the right plan makes anything possible.

Season 1: Standout Transformations

To say that we were more than shocked by the final reveals and weigh-ins during the finale of season 1 would be an understatement. Bigg Jah and Onyika put in the work and gave it their all to leave the challenge not looking anything like they did prior to the start. After six months of living with A.D. Dolphin, cleansing, and exercising regularly, Bigg Jah lost a total of 162 pounds, while Onyika lost 90 pounds. Both contestants were nearly in tears after seeing numbers on the scale that they hadn’t seen in many years.

Don’t just take our word for it, though. Feel free to watch their journeys by clicking here. All of the episodes are available on our YouTube channel. Both Onyika and Bigg Jah truly showed us that anything is possible!

Season 2: The Weight Loss Continues

The premise for the second season is the same, only it is half the amount of time as the first season. It follows Ryan Davis and Kim Kimble. Davis’ starting weight was 269 pounds and Kimble’s starting weight was 214 pounds. Tune in to follow their weight loss journey! You can stream all episodes now by clicking here.

For Dolphin, the ICAN Challenge is a pivotal moment in his career. Not only does it document the successes of the participants, but it also highlights the struggles and emotional toll that weight loss takes on people. It’s as emotional as it is uplifting and inspirational. In Dolphin’s words, “It is my goal to help people, and more importantly, give those following the journeys on the ICAN Challenge an insight into the world of cleansing. It is also my hope to inspire them, in hopes that they may change their lives in a more positive way after seeing the progress”

Weight loss is not linear and it is anything but easy. It looks different for every person, but each person has the ability and willpower to change for the positive. Subscribe to the Dherbs YouTube channel to catch a new episode every week. Thank you for the love and continued support.
