]]>

Flushing, redness, red bumps, and dilated blood vessels around the nose and cheeks are typical indicators of rosacea. This skin condition affects over 16 million Americans and over 415 million adults worldwide. Failure to manage or treat the condition can lead to permanent complications or damage. That’s why people need to take action and get ahead of symptoms as soon as they notice them.

What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that affects the face. People with fair skin, especially middle-aged fair-skinned women, are most at risk for developing rosacea. Some people think that it’s a vascular disorder related to an increase in blood flow, but the exact cause is not entirely clear. More often than not, symptoms are triggered by stress, extreme cold or heat, sun exposure, strenuous exercise, and spicy foods or alcohol.

According to experts, there is no cure for the condition, but there are ways to manage most of the symptoms. Below, you’ll find a list of remedies that are natural alternatives to traditional medications.

Avoid Triggers

This may not seem like a natural remedy, but avoiding triggers of rosacea will help enhance the efficacy of the following remedies. Many foods or lifestyle habits can trigger flare-ups, making the natural remedies ineffective. Common triggers include sun exposure, emotional stress, hot and spicy foods, smoking, and alcohol. The best way to document triggers is to keep a journal or diary. Notice reactions if you consume certain foods or perform certain activities. When you identify the triggers, it’s much easier to take steps to avoid them.

Chamomile Compress

Many herbs exhibit powerful anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe the skin. According to dermatologists, chamomile is an effective treatment for moderate rosacea symptoms. It contains many active compounds that work to reduce inflammation. In order to make a chamomile compress, steep two bags of chamomile tea in warm – not hot – water for about 30 seconds. Pat them dry to get rid of excess moisture before placing each bag on the affected areas for 10 minutes.

Change Your Pillowcase

The oils, dead skin cells, and dirt from your face can accumulate on your pillowcase. When you lay your head to rest every night on the same pillow, it’s possible for all of that accumulated grime to clog your pores. This commonly results in the bumps and pimples of rosacea. To help avoid this, change your pillowcase every other day to minimize dirt and oil collection on your pillow. After slipping on a clean case, sleep on one side the first night, and the other side the second night. Repeat this process with new cases, and try to make sure the pillowcases are cotton, not synthetic.

Comfrey

The use of comfrey for its medicinal properties dates back hundreds of years. Many people used it to help soothe muscle pain and joint complications. For people with rosacea, comfrey is an excellent natural remedy because it contains allantoin and rosmarinic acid, two compounds that exhibit soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Several studies found that both of these compounds are excellent for calming swollen or inflamed skin.

Green Tea

Sun exposure is a primary trigger for flare-ups, but green tea may help the skin in this regard. New research concluded that green tea can reduce rosacea symptoms when applied topically to the affected areas. The anti-inflammatory compounds in green tea work to reduce the skin’s reaction to ultraviolet light. In doing so, this reduces the severity of flare-ups from sun exposure. A study from 2010 found that epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), green tea’s primary polyphenol, helped prevent papules on the faces of people with rosacea.

Oats

Oats are a classic breakfast staple for many people, but they happen to work wonders on the skin. People commonly use oats to soothe itchiness or dry skin, but these same properties enhance the skin’s natural ability to protect itself from inflammatory attacks like rosacea. Researchers attribute this ability to avenanthramides, which are phenolic compounds that have powerful anti-itch and anti-inflammatory properties.

]]>

Grown in Europe, Asia, and parts of North America, comfrey has been used in healing practices for thousands of years. In the past, comfrey helped to treat stomach problems, but people found that it contained harmful pyrrolizidine alkaloids that damaged liver health and increased one’s risk of death. Within recent years, however, peer-reviewed studies have determined that comfrey is extremely beneficial for the skin when prepared as a salve or cream.

What Is Comfrey?

Comfrey is a fast-growing leafy plant that can be quite invasive. It spreads quickly and can be difficult to control, and it often inhibits new plants from sprouting. All that said, comfrey is popular among permaculture gardening circles because it pulls micronutrients from the soil. Many cultures harvest the roots and leaves of the plant to help treat burns, joint inflammation, bruises, and muscle sprains. European folk medicine has made salves from comfrey because of its ability to sooth gout and arthritis pain.

Comfrey For Joints

According to a clinical research study that was published in the Journal of Complementary Therapies in Medicine, comfrey is beneficial for people with osteoarthritis. A similar study found that applying a comfrey salve, made from the roots and leaves of the plant, helped relieve lower and upper back pain, ankle sprains, and sore joints.

Comfrey For Sprains

We have established that comfrey has powerful pain-relieving properties, especially when applied to joint sprains. According to one study, topical application of comfrey proved to be as effective as prescription pain-relieving gels. It is important to note that the study did not address whether or not comfrey creams accelerated the healing of sprains; the study only determined the effectiveness on pain symptoms.

Comfrey For Wounds

Preliminary studies found that comfrey has potential wound-healing properties. If you have an abrasion wound, topical application of comfrey is safe to apply. More research is necessary to determine potential risk factors and side effects of comfrey on wounds.

Precautions

Do not ever ingest comfrey. This plant is not intended for internal use because it can lead to liver poisoning or death if you consume too much. It is possible to have a negative skin reaction to comfrey, so please do a small patch test before applying it liberally. Once again, comfrey is for external use only!

DIY Comfrey Salve

Ingredients:

 • 1.5 cups fresh comfrey leaves (or 1 cup dried comfrey leaves)
 • Olive oil to fill jar (about 10 ounces)
 • 1 ounce beeswax

Instructions:

 • Add the comfrey leaves to a pint-sized mason jar and cover with olive oil. Make sure that the leaves are submerged by at least one inch of oil.
 • Place the jar in a double boiler or saucepan with water over low heat and gently mix the herbs and olive oil. Keep the mixture under 140 degrees F, ensuring that the mixture remains warm for 24 hours. You can also warm the mixture in a crockpot so you don’t have to keep your stove on for a day.
 • Strain the herb-infused oil into a heat-safe glass bowl over a double boiler and stir in the beeswax. Once the beeswax melts, remove from heat.
 • Pour the comfrey salve into salve tins or small jars and allow the mixture to harden at room temperature before screwing on the lids. Store in a cool dry place and use when ready.

Winter is coming and the air is getting dryer by the day. You might look down at your hands one day, only to realize that they are dry and cracked. This is not good. Code dry, we have a code dry. Something that can moisturize is needed before you can set foot in the world. Well, as it turns out, we have an amazing DIY herbal hand cream that is perfect for daily usage.

Most hand lotions or moisturizers contain toxins that can seep through your skin and into your body. Since the body cannot process these toxins, it is wise to use all natural ingredients that are designed to heal and benefit the body. Take a look at some of the key ingredients to see how awesome this hand cream is for you.

Comfrey

You’ll be comfy when you use comfrey because it helps to quickly repair skin cells. This herb actually helps the body heal from sprains, fractures, or broken bones as well.

Calendula

This herb is beneficial for soothing dry, itchy, or irritated skin. It has actually been used as an herbal remedy to help those with eczema and psoriasis because it works to calm inflamed and red skin.

Mango Butter

This soothing butter is beneficial for those with dry, itchy, damaged, or blemished skin. Mango butter helps to nourish the skin and helps prevent damage from happening.

Tamanu Oil

While you may not have heard of this strong-scented oil, you need to know that it is an amazing skin healer. It helps to heal burns, scrapes, acne, rashes, chapped skin, and can even help to get rid of stretch marks. This is typically very thick, but it works well when combined with other ingredients.

What You’ll Need

 • ¼ cup dried calendula flowers
 • 2 tablespoons dried comfrey leaves
 • ¼ cup dried dandelion leaves or flower tops
 • 1 teaspoon tamanu oil
 • 2 tablespoons mango butter
 • ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil
 • ½ cup + 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
 • ½ cup filtered water, boiled then cooled
 • 6 grams beeswax

How To Make

 • Mash the dried calendula, comfrey, and dandelion up in a mortar and pestle or blend them in a spice grinder. Combine the herbs with the ½ cup sweet almond oil in a heat-safe glass bowl. Place this bowl over a saucepan with simmering water to create a double boiler.
 • Turn the heat off after an hour and strain the herbs through a cheesecloth or coffee filter into a clean heat-safe glass bowl. Add a little more water to that saucepan you used and let it come to a low boil before reducing the heat to low.
 • Put the new glass bowl with the oil over the saucepan and add the mango butter and beeswax. Stir occasionally until melted.
 • Pour this mixture into a blender and add the tamanu and vitamin E oils. Before blending, place the blender in the fridge for 10 minutes to let the mixture cool.
 • Start blending the chilled mixture and slowly drizzle in the filtered water. We can’t stress this enough. It must be done slowly. This should create a thick and creamy mixture.
 • Store the hand cream in a clean glass jar in a cool, dry place. Use on your hands as needed.

The post Beware of Waste Products Sold as Health Products appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Many health companies are promoting and selling products under the guise of health products when in reality they are promoting and selling waste products.

The key to becoming and/or being healthy is being health conscious. Consciousness means to be aware and when you are health conscious you are aware about your health on many different levels, i.e. mental health, spiritual health, emotional health, and physical health.

When you are health conscious, you are also aware of the overall health of the citizens of your country, the overall health of the country’s children, the health of our great planet, the health of wildlife on the planet, and the health of the overall ecology.

To be healthy, you must study and research everything! If not, you may be swindled and under the banner of health or that you bought and consumed something you thought was healthy though it contained waste byproducts and was therefore toxic and unhealthy.

Some of the worth offenders are:

 • Soy Lecithin
 • Cod Liver Fish Oil
 • Whey Protein
 • Freeze-Dried Animal Organ
 • Melatonin
 • Pancreatin
 • Creatine
 • Canola Oil
 • Chondroitan
 • Glucosamine
 • Chitosan
 • Magnesium Stearate
 • Emu Oil

Soy Lecithin

Soy lecithin is touted as a healthy product. We hear how lecithin is necessary for optimal health (which is true), but the lecithin in the body is not the same lecithin derived from soy. Soy is an industrial product used for a plethora of things, such as paint, ink, gloss (to make magazine papers shiny), and certain forms of plastic.

Soy products are manufactured from the soybean, which is a genetically modified food. It’s also been tied to altering hormone levels, which can be problematic for women especially. Women should be aware of soy isoflavone products too, which are touted for female hormonal health. Soy isoflavone is allegedly a source of female estrogen, but soy isoflavone is also a byproduct of the soy industry.

MSG (mono sodium glutamate), a harmful chemical known to cause headaches and traditionally found in foods served at Chinese restaurants, is a soy byproduct. So is Vitamin E in capsule-pellet form and soy lecithin.

Food-based soy products such as tofu, tempeh, and TVP (textured vegetable protein) should only be eaten sparingly and then only in transition to a vegan or raw food diet.

Cod Liver Fish Oil

Cod liver fish oil is a waste byproduct of the fishing industry. Remember, the liver in any animal is a filtering organ. The filter is always contaminated due to performing its task. The oil from fish liver is genetically designed to benefit the structure of the fish, not a human being.

It is far better to consume land or plant-based sources of essential fatty acids (Omega 3, 6, and 9) such as black current seed oil, hemp seed oil, borage oil, flax seed oil, black seed oil, and evening primrose oil.

And beware of other sources of liver oil such as beef liver oil. Edible oils should be derived from plant-based sources.

Whey Protein

Another toxic byproduct is whey protein, a byproduct of the dairy industry. Whey is milk protein that is discarded from the production of cow milk.

You can commonly find whey protein in your commercial brand health food stores and local gyms and fitness centers. The dairy industry targets athletes for their whey protein byproduct. Regardless, whey protein has no business in the human body.

Beware of all those protein bars and beverages containing whey-they are anything but “health” food.

Melatonin

Many brands of melatonin are derived from or contain waste products. Some brands of melatonin are 100% chemically made.

The pineal gland – where melatonin is naturally produced – is imprinted with the energy of the person. People impress their organs with their energy (thoughts, behaviors, etc.) and if those organs get inside your body they may affect you too. Human organs hold and store certain human emotions.

Certain plants contain small traces of melatonin precursors, such as chamomile flower, and are safer and wiser to consume if you feel the need to consume outside sources for supplementation purposes.

Pancreatin

Pancreatin is nothing but digestive enzymes from horses. You can’t claim to be vegan while simultaneously eating animal byproducts. Many brands of digestive enzymes are derived not only from horses, but oxen, sheep, pigs, and cows.

Try Dherbs Enyzmes Formula, which features papaya, pineapple and pumpkin enzymes to help with digestion.

Creatine

Creatine is derived from pig blood and pig brain. Pigs are a great source of steroids and other things that bulk up the body. This is why creatine is a favorite product of bodybuilders.

Canola Oil

Canola oil can cause damage to the myelin sheath, which is the protective covering over the nerves. When the myelin sheath is compromised, the nerve fibers are exposed and a number of reactions can occur, i.e., shaking, trembling, fidgeting, etc.

Dherbs does not recommend canola oil. We classify it in the same category as peanut oil, soybean oil, palm kernel oil, and cottonseed oil.

Chondroitan and Chondroitan Sulfate

Chondroitan is commonly promoted as a healthy joint supplement. However, what many people don’t know is that chondroitan is a waste by-product of the beef industry. Chondroitan is derived from the tracheas and cartilage of slaughtered cows.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is another so-called health product espoused for joint health and care. However, most brands of glucosamine are derived from the pulverized bones of dead chickens.

For proper joint and bone care, one should consider consuming MSM Sulfur and herbs of Comfrey Root (great source of organic calcium), Amla (Indian gooseberry), and Devil’s Claw. At Dherbs.com, we have an awesome product for the health of the joints and bones called ‘Joint Aid.’

Chitosan

Chitosan is derived from shells of certain crustaceans. Basically, chitosan is pulverized shells and shells have no business inside the human body.

Instead, there’s a wonderful new product on the market these days called ‘Mona Vie‘, made from the acai fruit (berry) and various other berries that taste great and greatly benefit the body. And they even have two forms, a vegan form and a non-vegan form. The vegan form is superior because the non-vegan source contains chitosan, a waste byproduct which many think or believe is a good for health.

Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate is found in many so-called health products as an “other ingredient.” It’s an additive. Additives are added to products to cut the volume of actual active ingredient or ingredients, especially in herbal formulations.

Magnesium stearate offers little to no health benefits whatsoever. It is derived from the pulverized bones of slaughtered cows, oxen, pigs, and horses; but mainly oxen. You would probably know this if the name were spelled “steerate” (steer-ate) rather than “stearate” as you know ‘steer’ refers to a young ox.

At Dherbs.com we use absolutely no additives, fillers, binders, or preservatives in our products. You get 100% pure herb, our intention (maximum healing), and love! And this will never change! We put human beings before profit!

Emu Oil

Emu oil is oil derived from the emu and used for its anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s sad that emus have to be robbed of precious oil that is in their bodies. Humans would not have to use emu oil if they ate properly and lived more in tune with Nature and her laws.

Emu oil is for emus, not humans. Humans could prevent inflammation in their body (especially joints) if they refrained from eating acid-forming foods that create negative or detrimental mucus, which in turn results in inflammation (burning).

There are many more waste products that could be added to this article. These are just a few to consider.

Beneficial By-Products

It doesn’t happen very often, but occasionally, a by-produce of processing can be beneficial. Our favorites are activated charcoal and wheat germ.

Carbon (Activated Charcoal)

Carbon, also known as activated charcoal is derived from burnt plant matter, usually from the wood of the willow bark tree (Salix alba). Carbon is highly electrical and negatively charged and thus greatly pulls toxins and pollutants out of the body. Carbon carries toxins (including heavy metal toxins) 2,000 times its own weight out of the body.

It is the only natural substance you could give to a person who has overdosed on a chemical to prevent them from dying. This is why I recommend that carbon be in the house of every health conscious individual. It should also be in every natural first-aid kit (along with cayenne pepper, essential oil of tea tree, aloe vera gel or juice, arnica, hydrogen peroxide, and herbs of Goldenseal and Echinacea).

Carbon is one of the most powerful substances on the Earth. Nothing whitens teeth better than carbon. You simply place a little natural toothpaste on your toothbrush, dip it into your container of carbon, and then brush away, rinsing the mouth with water.

Wheat Germ

Wheat germ is a byproduct of the commercial bread industry that delights in selling the people white refined bread. Wheat bread is naturally brown in color due to the germ that is called ‘wheat germ.’

When processing the bread (which causes vital nutrients to be lost), the wheat germ is removed. The germ’s nutrients are removed simply to make the bread white. White bread is totally void of nutrition as a result. That’s why on your bags of white refined breads you’ll see the words ‘fortified’ or ‘enriched’ written on them. They have to add the nutrients back to the finished product but usually add synthetic nutrients, which can make white bread is more mucus forming than regular unrefined wheat bread.

Many runners and joggers don’t know it, but there is danger in running and jogging, especially when performed daily.

These Western exercises serve to compensate for the sedentary lifestyles of many Americans who spend 6-8 hours a day sitting at a desk job.

Joint Pain and Cartilage Damage

Many runners and joggers experience foot, ankle, knee, and leg injuries-and understandably so.

Some longtime runners and/or joggers develop a condition known as chondromalacia, medically defined as a softening of the cartilage. It develops in response to the softening of the cartilage under the kneecaps (patella) that result in small areas of breakdown and pain around the knee.

Running and jogging over long periods of time, and especially on cement or asphalt, destroys cartilage in the joints. It’s the reason why many runners and joggers later suffer from stiffness in their knees. The stiffness is also attributed to a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Lactic acid makes you stiff, not the workout itself.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons) may also develop from long periods of running and jogging.

The inflammation in tendonitis results from acidic mucus buildup in the tendons. The mucus develops to protect the damage done in the tendons, but the problem with the mucus stems from people continuing to do the activity that produces more mucus. So much mucus is produced that the mucus itself becomes a problem. It also triggers inflammation.

Mucus is generated by an acid-based diet. An acid-based diet is one that consists mainly of meat products, dairy products, refined grain products, processed and refined so-called foods or foodstuffs, and low pH acidic effervescent beverages such as soda pop and diet soda pop that contain deleterious phosphoric acid which eats away at the bones and robs the body of calcium.

Other Health Issues from Running and Jogging

Some people believe that when women jog on cement or asphalt without shock absorbers in their shoes, they can injure their uterus. With every step of a run or jog, a physical shock is being sent from the feet’s metatarsal bones all the way to the uterus.

Running and jogging will undoubtedly cause loss of calcium. Many commercial health food stores such as GNC, Great Earth, Vitamin Shoppe, et al make a fortune selling synthetic grades of calcium to athletes. For calcium or any other mineral to work in your body, it must be organic, must be able to be digested by the body fully, and must be able to be absorbed and assimilated.

Nature produces two types of calcium and you must know which type the human body requires for optimal health and wellbeing. The kind of calcium humans require is called calcium phosphate, aka organic calcium.

However, some commercial health stores and supermarkets sell inorganic calcium that is indigestible and harms health and wellbeing. Most of this type of calcium is urinated right out of the body and residues remain lodged in the body trapped in the tissues of the body and also play a role in the formation of calcium deposits in the body.

Your calcium must be organic or plant-based, i.e. comfrey root and leaf, oatstraw, horsetail, and nettle. Calcium is denoted by the color green and not white. Many of the biggest brands of calcium are synthetic and have no nutritional value.

Commercial health food stores also sell chondroitin and glucosamine for bone, tendon, and ligament problems. This is a waste of money. Chondroitin is made from a cow’s trachea and glucosamine is derived from chicken bones. You may be able to find non-animal sources of these products, but they are very rare.

Runners and joggers can also harm their adrenal glands. We are designed to run to save our lives, as in fight or flight situations whereby our bodies produce extreme amounts of adrenaline to help us escape from danger. Excessive amounts of adrenaline can hurt the body, especially the heart.

Astrology and Running

People born under the astrological signs of Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces are very prone to problems (injuries) of the knees, legs, ankle, and feet as these particular signs govern these body parts.

 • Capricorn governs the knees and legs and thus Capricorn people (born between December 23 and January 19) are more prone to injuries of the knees and legs.
 • Aquarius governs the ankles so Aquarians or Aquarius people (born between January 20 and February 19) are more prone to problems (injuries) of the ankles.
 • Pisces governs the feet and toes so Pisceans (born between February 20 and March 19) are more prone to problems (injuries) of the feet and toes.

Natural Healing From the Damage of Running and Jogging

If you are going to run and jog, by all means make sure you run and/or jog on grass, dirt, or sand. Avoid running and/or jogging on cement or asphalt.

Refrain from running or jogging for long miles. Keep your sessions short, only a few miles. Some people run 5-10 miles daily which is insane when you know the damage being done to your body. You might even consider replacing running and/or jogging with bicycling. Bicycling is better for the knees and tendons.

If you still feel the need to run or jog as your primary form of exercise, get a pair of shock absorbers for your shoes.

Every morning, drink a glass full of room temperature water with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar added to the water. This will greatly help your joints.

Start performing the sea salt soak as much as possible. Bathe or soak in sea salt rather than Epsom salt.

Rub warm oil (plant-based i.e. olive, almond, coconut, etc.) on your sore joints. Then massage in a few drops (3-5 drops) of essentials oil such as Wintergreen, Spearmint, Peppermint, and/or Eucalyptus.

Consider replacing strenuous exercises with subtle exercises such as yoga, Pilates, tai chi, or basic stretching.

More natural healing options include acupressure, energy healing, and chiropractic exercises.

Magnetic therapy can aid in repairing damaged feet, ankles, legs, and knees. You can purchase magnetic ankle pads and knee pads to wear daily or as needed. Magnetic therapy is great for palliating and eradicating pain as magnets increase circulation to injured areas and thus provide much needed oxygen and minerals to injured areas.

]]>

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is a powerful calcium-containing herb that provides human beings with 100% organic, digestible and absorbable calcium. Unlike man-made versions of calcium that are synthetic and pharmaceutical-grade, the body digests it easily and uses its benefits.

The body cannot assimilate calcium as well in fortified milk, fortified orange juice, antacids or calcium supplements. These synthetic forms of calcium are derived from oxide sources. The human body cannot assimilate oxide material or elements, making it difficult to digest. Oxides are inorganic versions of a substance or thing.

Benefits

Comfrey root and leaves provide the richest and most abundant source of natural calcium in plant form. Even though Comfrey is the most effective, there are several other herbs that provide natural calcium such as:

Comfrey root is so strong that it takes very powerful blades to cut it. Comfrey root provides ample amounts of calcium and helps build strong and healthy bones.

Comfrey is also used for skin regeneration. It contains substances that help reduce inflammation of sprains and broken bones. Allantoin, a substance that promotes skin cell growth, is found in comfrey roots and leaves.

Uses

When applied to the skin, comfrey can be used to treat wounds and relieve inflammation of the joints. The ointment is applied to the skin in areas with bruises, fractures, sprains, strains, and osteoarthritis.

These ointments come in a variety of strengths, typically ranging from 5 to 20% comfrey. Comfrey can also be found in the form of a cream, liniment and poultice. These topical treatments are made from fresh or dried herbs, leaf, or roots from the comfrey plant.

Bones

In herbology, the color white generally denotes the bones and herbs that are good for the bones.

Comfrey has many therapeutic and medicinal properties and value. It builds strong bones, teeth, cartilage, tendons and muscles. Being a mucilaginous astringent, toning herb and powerful cell proliferator, it is useful for post radiation treatment. It has the following capabilities:

 • Irritation and inflammatory conditions
 • Heals and builds human tissues
 • Heals duodenal and stomach ulcers
 • Colon complaints such as colitis, diverticulitis, bowel inflammations and irritable bowel syndrome.
 • Profound healing for respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, and other bronchial-lung inflammations.
 • Very helpful for colds, coughs, fever, and the flu
 • Soothes and heals bladder and prostate infections
 • An effective hemostatic to arrest internal hemorrhaging from the lungs and urethral system as well as the female menstruation and externally for open wounds and cuts.
 • Helps reverse varicose veins and other stagnation challenges.
 • Useful as poultice for bone knitting and fractures and as a compress or poultice for cuts and burns.
 • Helpful to heal bedsores, insect bites and stings, bruises, inflamed bunions, sunburn, and nosebleed.
 • Useful as a douche solution for vaginal yeast infections, and to reverse calcium deficiency.

Ingredients

The nutritional content of Comfrey includes:

 • Calcium
 • Magnesium
 • Vitamin C
 • Vitamin B12
 • Beta Carotene
 • Phosphorus

Controversies

The comfrey herb contains dangerous substances called pyrrolizidine alkaloids. New leaves tend to be more poisonous than older leaves. All comfrey products are made from the leaves or other parts of the plant that are grown above the ground. The roots contain much more poisonous pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

Comfrey-containing creams should not be applied on a regular basis. They should only be used occasionally and should never be applied to the mouth or any open wounds.

It is important to follow the safety recommendations when using topical treatments containing the comfrey herb.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis causes 1.5 million fractures in general, over 300,000 hip fractures, over 700,000 vertebral fractures, and over 250,000 wrist fractures each year in the United States. Osteoporosis accounts for 70% of all fractures of people over 45 years of age in the U.S.

Causes and Risk Factors

Osteoporosis is considered a degenerative disease that causes bones to become weak or brittle. It’s a natural occurrence with aging, when bone loss outpaces bone renewal.

There are two types of risk factors associated with osteoporosis: changeable and unchangeable.

Unchangeable risk factors are:

 • Gender-women are at higher risk of developing osteoporosis than men
 • Age-the older you get, the greater the risk
 • Ethnicity-Caucasians tend to experience osteoporosis more frequently
 • Family history
 • Body frame-petite people tend to experience osteoporosis more often than people with medium or large frames
 • Early menopause-women who go through early menopause are at higher risk

Changeable risk factors are:

 • Hormone levels-imbalanced hormones or other glandular problems can contribute to the development of osteoporosis
 • Thyroid problems-too much thyroid hormone can accelerate bone loss
 • Dietary imbalance such as too little calcium in the diet, eating disorders or weight-loss surgery
 • Steroids or other medications that leech calcium from the bones
 • Lifestyle-people who sit too much are at higher risk
 • Alcohol abuse
 • Tobacco use

Symptoms

Common symptoms of osteoporosis are:

 • Back pain
 • Frequent bone fractures
 • Bone fractures that happen too easily
 • Collapsed vertebrae
 • Loss of height
 • Stooped posture

Healing Options

Consume mostly organic, raw, live foods – fruits and vegetables, but especially green leafy cruciferous vegetables. Green foods (broccoli, parsley, spinach, alfalfa, dandelion, etc.) are usually high in organic calcium and usually contain more Vitamin C than some citrus fruits.

Drink plenty of vegetable juice daily as vegetable juice is alkalizing and many vegetables contain moderate to high amounts of calcium and thus are great for reversing bone density conditions such as osteoporosis.

Eliminate consumption of commercial brands of orange juice, i.e. Minute Maid, Sunkist, Florida Natural, etc. Fresh squeezed (which may cost more) is best. An orange is acidic in nature, but it is alkaline! Oranges, limes, and lemons are acidic in nature, but are not acid forming.

Eliminate consumption of antacids. Use herbs and/or herbal products to neutralize acid without any adverse side effects. Remember that your green foods (including herbs) are very alkalizing, too.

Great calcium-providing herbs include Comfrey root and leaves, Moringa (whole plant), Oat straw, Horsetail, Alfalfa and Red Raspberry Leaf to name a few.

When you bathe or soak, add 1-2 boxes (26-52 ounces) of sea salt to the bath water as sea salt makes bath water alkaline and in turn this helps the overall health and well being of the bones. It also helps to dissolve hardened lactic acid, which is responsible for stiffness in the body.

Dietary Intervention

The human body requires organic nutrition. The body can only assimilate and absorb that which is organic. That’s why plants are the best source of nutrition for human beings, including calcium. It’s a mistake to rely only on processed foods and dairy products as sources of nutritional calcium.

Again, the right kind of calcium is CALCIUM PHOSPHATE (derived from plant sources) and not calcium carbonate, calcium lactate, calcium citrate, or calcium gluconate.

Consuming the right kind of nutrients (i.e. nutrients that the body can absorb and assimilate, not just digest) is very important. You must make sure you’re getting organic nutrients.
