COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the country, and yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new shortened isolation times for asymptomatic people who test positive for COVID-19. The previous quarantine guidelines for people who tested positive were 10 days of isolation. The new isolation restrictions for people who do not have symptoms is now five days, but they should continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days after quarantining.

In addition to the reduced isolation recommendation, the CDC also suggests a five-day quarantine for people exposed to the virus who are not vaccinated, or over six months from their second mRNA dose. Health experts say that the CDC’s recommendations for isolation balance what they already know about the spread of COVID-19. Currently, omicron accounts for 73% of coronavirus infections in the United States, and breakthrough infections are rising within the fully vaccinated population, including those who received a booster shot.

Why Did Isolation Time Reduce?

According to data analysis, the majority of COVID-19 transmission occurs early in the course of the illness. Generally speaking, people transmit the disease one to two days prior to experiencing symptoms, and two to three days after. Isolation relates to behavior after confirming COVID-19 infection, and quarantine refers to the confinement period after exposure to a known case of COVID-19. People who are asymptomatic have different guidelines than those who experience symptoms.

ANYONE WHO TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 SHOULD ISOLATE FOR AT LEAST FIVE DAYS, REGARDLESS OF VACCINATION STATUS.

Reducing quarantine guidelines can help asymptomatic people return to work or school sooner, provided proper precautions are in place. The CDC states that people who received their booster shot do not need to quarantine after exposure. They should, however, wear a mask for 10 days after to be safe. It’s also beneficial to get a COVID-19 test after exposure as a precaution.

What If Symptoms Are Present?

Should you experience a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19, you should continue to stay home until symptoms resolve. If your symptoms resolve after five days and you don’t have a fever for 24 hours, the CDC states that you are free to leave your house with a mask on. It’s best to wear a well-fitting mask around other people after testing positive to minimize the risk of spreading the virus.

What Should You Do If Your Are Exposed?

Regardless of vaccination status, the CDC recommends that you quarantine for five days, followed by strict masking practices for five days after that. If, for whatever reason, a five-day quarantine is not feasible, the CDC says that it’s imperative that you wear a well-fitting mask at all times, especially when around others for 10 days. For anyone who is exposed to COVID-19, the best practice is to get a PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 at day five after initial exposure. Should symptoms occur, immediately quarantine until a negative test confirms that symptoms are not because of COVID-19.

The motive behind these new guidelines is to keep society running smoothly. Experts only expect the volume of new cases to increase, especially with the recent holiday travel period. Booster shots greatly lower the risk that someone will contract the virus and pass it to other people. Recent data suggests that two doses of an mRNA vaccine is 35% effective, while a COVID-19 vaccine booster has 75% efficacy against infection. Regardless of vaccination status, please be safe and take precautions to keep yourself as healthy as possible.

The previous quarantine advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was 14 days after potential COVID-19 exposure. The new guidelines state that people can reduce this 14-day period to 10 or even 7 days. Shortening your quarantine time will depend on specific circumstances, which are as follows:

  • Quarantine can end after 10 days without a test if the person does not experience symptoms.
  • Quarantine can end after 7 days, only if the person tests negative for the virus and reports that they are free of symptoms.

While these are the new CDC guidelines, local health officials can issue their own guidelines based on conditions in the area. Health officials from the CDC still say that you should monitor your own health 14 days after exposure, even if you stop quarantining after 7 or 10 days.

Why Should You Quarantine?

The purpose of quarantining is to limit the spread of COVID-19. If you are exposed to the virus, it’s integral to take preventative measures to keep you and everyone around you safe. This means that you remain in one room as much as possible. You sleep separate, use a separate bathroom, always wear a mask, and avoid sharing utensils. Doing all of those things makes less work for other people in your house. Because COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease, quarantining is the best method to prevent spreading.

Do New Quarantine Guidelines Increase COVID-19 Risk?

There is a new risk level that accompanies the new CDC quarantine guidelines. According to Dr. John Brooks, chief medical officer for the CDC’s COVID-19 response, reducing quarantine time to 10 days increases a person’s risk by 1-12%. It’s possible for a person to spread the virus after both a 10-day and 7-day quarantine, even if the person tests negative in both instances. This is why you need to monitor symptoms and health for 14 days after exposure.

What’s The Reason For The New Guidelines?

Unfortunately, there is no specific reasoning as to why the CDC issued new quarantine guidelines. Health experts suspect that the updated guidelines come in response to new understanding of the virus. According to research, it’s very rare for someone to become symptomatic 7 days after exposure. Additionally, quarantining for 14 days puts a strain on companies, especially if the person experiences no symptoms and tests negative. Allowing these shorter quarantine times may reduces the strain on companies by letting workers return to work earlier, provided they wear masks.

What Happens If You Test Positive?

If you test positive for coronavirus, revert to the 14-day quarantine model. Isolate at home and do not go out. Have a family member, roommate, or friend go out for you. Always wear a mask, even indoors, stay away from every person in the house, and practice regular disinfection and hand washing. If you live with others, make sure that they get tested and quarantine until the results come back.

Even with the vaccine coming out, it’s integral to adhere to quarantine recommendations. People continue to test positive and die because of the novel coronavirus, so don’t think that we are out of the woods. Limit the spread as much as possible by quarantining if necessary. If you are worried about exposure, please take a PCR test. This is the most accurate test and it involves a nasal swab.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of strain on relationships, but many couples reignited that flame of love. All that time in the house nurtured that initial connection that sparked the initial attraction. Some couples have not been so lucky, and other couples require inspiration to keep the romance alive.

You may think that date night is impossible when you can’t leave the house to do anything. Since movie theaters, museums, bars, concert venues, comedy clubs, and more remain closed, couples have to get creative with date nights. You aren’t just spending time with each other because you can’t go anywhere; rather, date night is about intentional time with each other.

Dedicating a couple nights per week to engage with each other is crucial to maintain a healthy relationship. You don’t need to build an extravagant miniature golf course; rather, date night can be as simple as sitting down with your significant other and being available for them. Be present with each other to build a healthier relationship. For the nights when you want to do something more, try the following ideas.

For The Creative Types

Movie nights are not for every couple. There are those who need to put their creativity and hands to work, letting their artistic inspiration take over. If this sounds like you, try painting, tie-dying, scrapbooking, completing puzzles, or building a raised garden bed for new plants. Paint and power tools inspire love!

For The Music Lovers

Unfortunately, concerts are off the table for a while. Concerts were go-to date nights for many couples, but the music doesn’t have to stop just because of COVID-19. Many artists live-stream at-home shows every day, and other bands release high-quality footage of past concerts weekly. Celebrate your favorite bands, your favorite tunes, and good vibes when you watch these shows. Some bands even started drive-in concert tours, so check your city’s events for possible drive-in shows.

For The Self-Care Couples

There’s no shame in appreciating a manicure, pedicure, hydrating face mask, or a soak in a soothing bath with essential oils. Pamper yourselves with exfoliating scrubs, masks, or detoxifying foot soaks. Invite some romance into the evening by giving your partner a foot rub or a back massage. Light some candles for that spa ambiance.

For The Children At Heart

There is something to be said about a classic game night. From Jenga to Twister and Chess to Mario Kart, game night has a way of bringing joy into your life. There is one rule for game night: DO NOT GET UPSET IF YOU LOSE! This makes the romantic and fun evening take a dark turn and sucks all the beautiful energy out of the room. This is why you should not play Monopoly; it ruins relationships.

For The Active Couples

Switch that date night to a day date and head out to explore a new hike or mountain biking trail with your partner. If it is too hot to exercise outdoors, consider following a workout video at home. This challenges you and your partner to get after it! You don’t even have to make your date night intensely active. Take a simple stroll to a restaurant, from which you order takeout, and walk back to eat at home.

For The Food Lovers

The kitchen is a romantic place. There’s just something about food that makes it sexy, or the act of cooking is attractive. A lot of restaurants sell cooking kits for date nights, or they sell wine, charcuterie, and cheese plates for the perfect backyard picnic. We encourage you to find a recipe that you both love and make it from scratch!

For The Drivers

A car date is the perfect chance for you to get away from home while staying safe. Drive up into the hills and find a perfect lookout spot to take a breath of fresh air. Alternatively, head out to the desert, or the middle of nowhere, and do some stargazing. You may just drive around and talk to each other. Kiss at red lights, play a romantic game of would you rather, or have a makeout session in an empty parking lot. Whatever you do, don’t forget to bring snacks!

What happens when you stay at home all day, surrounded by food, with nowhere to go? You gain weight, plain and simple, especially if you aren’t engaging in at-home workouts. The coronavirus affected the global population, from both health and economic standpoints. On top of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, one thing holds true: the quarantine 15 is no joke.

What Is The Quarantine 15?

The quarantine 15 is based off the fabled freshman 15, which explains the 15-pound weight gain during a person’s first year of college. The classic college caffeteria has buffet style meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but this has changed in most colleges to limit food waste. This bountiful spread of never-ending food causes people to gain weight, and the same thing happened to people, who were instructed to stay home for months as a result of COVID-19. For most countries and states, quarantine is over, but those 15 pounds have not gone anywhere.

Why Did COVID-19 Lead To Weight Gain?

One of the primary factors that contributed to weight gain during safer-at-home orders was the lack of routine. A high percentage of people could not work, and sleep schedules, diet, daily routine, and exercise regimens came to a halt. Others evolved with the changing times, but the ease and comfort of being at home contributed to some “COVID curves.” Additionally, the stress and panic surrounding COVID-19 led to unhealthy eating habits. The panic buying of non-perishable foods, which are inherently unhealthy, created poor eating habits as well.

How The Full Body Cleanse Can Help

Unlike other cleanse programs that only address the colon and give the user the illusion of cleansing, the Full Body Cleanse targets all the primary organs and systems in the body. The herbal supplements work to cleanse these areas of the body, while simultaneously providing them with much needed nourishment. The average American accumulates a lot of toxins via diet, and these toxins can impair the proper function of the body’s organs and systems. This can lead to waste accumulation, which contributes to weight gain. If you aren’t eliminating waste, you’re gaining weight!

Routine Is Paramount For Weight Loss

COVID-19 generated the perfect storm for people who already struggled with weight loss. Gyms closed, work from home became the norm, parks closed, and the fear of going outside got in the way of regular exercise habits. For those with children, parenting and schooling from home drained out your energy. With no fuel left in the tank to care for yourself, it’s easy to see why the quarantine 15 became a real thing.

The Full Body Cleanse provides you with the necessary routine that can help you hit the reset button on your health. By focusing on a plethora of raw fruits, vegetables, and raw nuts and seeds, you eliminate all the unhealthy treats and foods that contribute to weight gain. Combine this nourishing diet with the 100% plant-based herbal supplements and that accumulated waste begins to leave the body.

When Can You See Results?

This varies from person to person, but most people feel the difference within the first week of cleansing. When you start feeling better, lighter, more energetic, and healthier, you want to continue on that path. Yes, the Full Body Cleanse differs from what most people are familiar with, but a drastic change is necessary to open your eyes to the mistakes that led you to gaining weight.

It’s time to say goodbye to those “COVID curves” and get your body in a healthier state. If you do the Full Body Cleanse, tag us on social media in your transformation pictures so that we can see your results! Dherbs is a family and we want everyone to succeed and be healthy!

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, also known as SARS-CoV-2. According to statistics, most people who test positive for COVID-19 only experience mild or moderate illness. Roughly one in five people experience severe illness and require medical attention. In this article we aim to inform people about what to do if they experience symptoms.

What Are The Symptoms Of COVID-19?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified 11 symptoms related to COVID-19. It is possible to confuse initial symptoms with the common cold or flu because some symptoms overlap. You can click here for a distinction between COVID-19 symptoms and other illnesses.

Primary Symptoms

  • Dry cough
  • Fever
  • Fatigue

Additional Symptoms

  • Body aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Congestion

What Should You Do If You Think You Have COVID-19 Symptoms?

Stay Home

This is the most important step to take if you think you have COVID-19 symptoms, because you don’t want to spread it and infect others. Do not go to work, grocery stores, restaurants, public places, and avoid public transportation. The only reason you should leave your house is to seek medical care. If you need medical care, please call your health care provider beforehand and describe symptoms over the phone. Call 911 in emergency situations and detail your symptoms to the dispatcher.

Isolate From Others

If you live in a house with other people, you need to self-quarantine so that they don’t get sick. Try to stay in one specific room as much as possible, except to use the restroom and shower (this should ideally be a separate restroom). If you have pets in your home, make sure to avoid them as well. If you need to watch an animal or cannot avoid other people, wear a face covering and have others wear face coverings. Make sure that others in your house regularly sanitize high-touch surfaces if you inhabit common areas. Additionally, do not share personal household items like drinking glasses, utensils, bedding, dishes, or cups with other people in your home.

Determine Your Risk

When you call your doctor, he or she will ask questions to determine the severity of your situation. The questions that will most likely come about include:

  • Did you recently travel?
  • Were you recently in close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19?
  • Has a public health official said that you were exposed to COVID-19?
  • What symptoms are you experiencing?

Make sure to provide detailed and accurate information so that the doctor can give the proper recommendations or advice.

Follow The Health Care Provider’s Instructions

As we previously mentioned, the health care provider will give instructions over the phone. You will receive instructions if you need an evaluation and what steps you need to take to ensure a healthy, swift recovery. You may receive recommendations like:

  • Monitor your symptoms and call back if fever or respiratory symptoms occur.
  • Stay home and await instructions.
  • Report to a designated medical facility for evaluation and treatment. Don’t bring family or children to this appointment. Please go alone.
  • Go to an emergency clinic if you experience more severe symptoms, including shortness of breath and high fever.

Monitor Your Symptoms

This is a very important step because the severity of your symptoms can determine whether or not you need an emergency hospital visit. Keep track of your symptoms as the days pass, and do not hesitate to seek medical attention. Don’t forget to self-quarantine during this time.

Stay Calm

Because there are so many unknown factors about COVID-19, it can be quite scary if you contract the virus. It is a contagious illness, but doctors learn more and more information about it with each passing day. Stress can compromise immune function, so please stay calm, rest, self-isolate, and do what you can to avoid spreading the illness.

Almost everyone is stuck at home these days, and many people report that they have gained a lot of weight. It doesn’t help that gyms are closed, either! The quarantine-15 is a real result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and unhealthy snacking plays a large role. A high percentage of people eat out of boredom, or they open the fridge and pantry to just see what snack or meal grabs their attention. There’s nothing wrong with eating, especially when you listen to the body’s hunger cues. You run into problems when you eat to kill time.

It’s All About Balance

Whether you decide to cook dinner or enjoy a quick snack, the key is to balance your plate. A few apple slices will only hold you over for so long. You need to make sure that your snack has a good balance of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and possibly some omega-3 fatty acids to keep you full. Celery sticks with almond butter, chia pudding, hummus and carrots, or a handful of nuts are excellent snack options that provide diverse nutrients.

Watch Your Portions

Once you start eating a snack that contains empty calories, it’s pretty easy to eat the entire thing. A bag of chips, for instance, can easily be polished off without you even realizing it. And you don’t even care that the serving size is 14 chips! During this quarantine time, you may find it beneficial to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. Instead of eating three primary meals, consider five or six smaller meals. This method of food consumption has been known to stimulate metabolism and regulate digestion. That doesn’t mean you should eat unhealthy foods in smaller portions, though. Aim to consume meals that consist primarily of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and legumes.

Tune Into Your Hunger

If you catch yourself staring at the fridge and have no recollection of how you got there, close the fridge immediately and walk away. When you feel the urge to get food, assess whether or not you are hungry or full. If you are a little hungry, eat a light, healthy snack. If you feel famished, make yourself a meal. The goal is to avoid eating when you aren’t hungry. Eating when you are not hungry is a recipe for weight gain or upset stomach.

We hope that you are triumphing during these strange times. If you need a little inspiration for some healthy snacks, make some of the following recipes. Don’t forget, you can always cleanse with Dherbs if you feel like you need to lose that quarantine-15.

Banana Almond Butter Chia Pudding

If you need to stop yourself from opening the pantry 30 times a day, chia pudding is right snack for you. This recipe contains fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, all of which help to fill you up and keep cravings at bay. We promise that you’ll enjoy this dessert-like snack that you can eat guilt-free.

Baked Plantain Chips

Plantains are underutilized in American cooking, but we hope to invite them into your cooking habits with this recipe. These chips are spiced with curry powder and paprika, and those rich, fragrant flavors entice the taste buds with each crunch.

Fig Energy Bites

Processed fig bars can contain over three different types of sugars. You don’t want to put corn syrup, cane sugar, and added sweeteners in your body because all of these can lead to more cravings and weight gain. Make your own fig bars in bite-size form instead!

Click here to make the recipe.

Dehydrated Salt And Vinegar Kale Chips

When you open a bag of chips, it’s hard not to dive in and eat the entire bag. The worst part is that you can eat that bag and still be hungry. This is because they contain no nutritional value. Crunch on kale chips instead! Not only are they extremely delicious, but they are also healthier than chemically processed chips.

Chewy Peanut Butter Balls

When the mid-morning or mid-afternoon hunger strikes, you need a snack that will keep you full until your next meal. Snack on a couple of these protein-filled peanut butter balls! You may find that they are great to increase energy levels and productivity towards the end of the workday.

The new coronavirus, which is officially known as SARS-CoV-2, is an infectious virus that can lead to the coronavirus disease 19 or COVID-19. This virus has spread to almost every country around the world, and people are uncertain of what the future holds. This fear of the unknown has caused everyone to utter the question: “How can I protect myself from getting the virus?”

Scientists have determined that people who develop COVID-19 typically have an underlying illness or existing health problems. The virus can multiply quickly in the body, and you can pass the virus if you are both symptomatic or asymptomatic. The fact of the matter is that each person can be affected differently because there are so many unknown factors.

Tips For Prevention

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has urged everyone to cover their faces with cloth masks in public places, where it is difficult to maintain a six-foot distance from others. Wearing masks, in combination with social distancing, will hopefully slow the spread of the virus. The CDC also advises that people shouldn’t stockpile surgical masks and N95 respirators because those are reserved for healthcare workers. For more prevention tips, please continue reading.

Avoid Touching The Eyes, Nose, And Mouth

Most people are not aware of how frequently they touch their faces throughout the day. The reason you should avoid touching your face is because the hands touch so many surfaces, where viruses can live. Once they become contaminated, they can transfer the virus to your nose, eyes, or mouth. That is when you can become sick.

Wash Hands Frequently

Do not use scalding hot water to wash your hands because your skin can dry out more quickly. Use lukewarm water with soap (preferably antibacterial or antiviral soap) and wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Get in between your fingers, under your fingernails, and even up to your wrists. Click here to learn proper hand washing technique.

Limit Contact With Others

The reason it is important to practice social distancing is to put space between you and others, who may have the virus. If an infected person sneezes or coughs, those droplets can travel and you can breathe them in if you are too close. When you are in public, maintain a six-foot distance between others. If you live in a community with a high number of cases, stay home as much as possible, avoid contact with people who are not members of the household, and only go out to visit essential services.

Clean And Disinfect

In addition to maintaining personal hygiene, it’s integral to use alcohol-based disinfectants to clean hard surfaces in the home or car. Door handles, furniture, toys, countertops, computers, remotes, and your phone are frequently touched throughout the day. Disinfect those areas and items frequently.

Disinfect Your Groceries

The items in grocery stores are exposed to many germs, even without the threat of COVID-19. Now more than ever, it is integral to disinfect cans, frozen items, any packaged food, and produce that you purchase. Prior to putting your groceries away at home, it can be beneficial to soak all raw fruits and vegetables in a solution of food-grade hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar. And wash your hands after handling fresh produce.

Don’t Share Personal Items

When it comes to personal items like phones, makeup, combs, forks, straws, or towels, avoid sharing them with others. Additionally, teach children to recognize their own cups, straws, and dishes as a precautionary measure for their health and safety.

Self-Quarantine If You Feel Sick

Whether you come down with COVID-19 or not, stay home if you experience any symptoms that indicate sickness. Remain in your house until you are fully recovered. Avoid sleeping, eating, or engaging with loved ones if you live in the same home. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, call your doctor for an appointment.

Following these tips can help flatten the curve and propel society towards a healthier future. Stay healthy, everyone, and be kind to each other.
