Talcum powder seems like a wholesome product. After all, it helps to prevent babies from developing diaper rash. How harmful could it be, right? Well, up to 40% of women regularly use talcum powder on occasion, and that doesn’t account for the talc that exists in cosmetic products such as blush.

The purpose of the powder is to help absorb moisture and reduce friction. This can keep the skin dry in more moist areas, which can help prevent rashes. The unfortunate reality is that many published health studies demonstrate a link between talcum powder use and ovarian, uterine, and lung cancers and mesothelioma. Johnson & Johnson alone shelled out over $700 million for cancer-related lawsuits in 2016 and 2017. There are currently tens of thousands of dollars in pending lawsuits.

What Is Talc?

Talc is a soft mineral that exists in rocks buried in the ground. After a process of grinding and milling, the resulting ground talc gets incorporated into a wide variety of products. Technically, talc is hydrous magnesium silicate, which is made from silicon, magnesium, oxygen, and hydrogen.

In its natural state, talc may contain asbestos, a mineral that causes cancer, especially when inhaled. In 1976, the trade association that represented manufacturers asked them to remove asbestos from talc that was in their personal-care and cosmetic products. Unfortunately, this is not formally enforced and that’s why talc’s potential link to cancer still exists. People who use products that contain talc, or those who work mining talc, are the most at risk for cancer development.

Asbestos In Talcum Powder

Manufacturers aim to prevent cross-contamination of talc and asbestos by choosing mining sites carefully and testing samples. Talc and asbestos are two different minerals, but they exist in close proximity to each other. That makes it easy for cross-contamination to occur, especially since one gram of talc can contain millions of asbestos fibers. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) deemed asbestos to be a cancer-causing agent. Exposure to asbestos can increase the risk of mesothelioma, lung cancer, and laryngeal cancer.

Lung Cancer

According to a 2015 study, there was an increase in lung cancer mortality rates in talc miners. Talc exposure may not have been the only cause, though. It’s possible that these miners also inhaled other carcinogens, which weren’t measured in the study. A different study monitored the risk of lung cancer among workers who were exposed to asbestos-free talc and silica. The exposure took place during the manufacturing of ceramic plumbing fixtures. The research stated that workers exposed to high levels of silica did not have a significant lung cancer risk. The workers exposed to talc and silica experienced a 2.5-fold increased risk of lung cancer.

Mesothelioma

This type of cancer affects the lining of certain areas in the body, especially mesothelial cells that line the chest. Mesothelioma is not very common, with only about 3,000 diagnoses per year. For comparison, there are over 200,000 new diagnoses of lung cancer each year. The primary risk factor for mesothelioma is asbestos exposure. Upon inhaling asbestos fibers, they can penetrate mesothelial cells and cause irritation. This ultimately leads to cancer development. Anyone who has been around asbestos, especially in regards to construction, insulation, automotive, and other similar industries, is more at risk.

Granulomatosis

When intravenous drug abusers inject tablets that contain talc, which are meant for oral use, they run the risk of developing granulomatosis. This is a condition that stems from the formation of granulomas in the lungs. These granulomas come about because of inflammation or infection caused by a foreign substance. Injecting talc into the blood can cause arterial obstruction, loss of blood flow, or granuloma formation.

Ovarian Cancer

The American Cancer Society documented many studies in women regarding talcum powder’s link to ovarian cancer. Applying baby powder, or any product containing talc, to the female genital area can cause powder particles to travel through the vagina. These particles can then enter the uterus and fallopian tubes, and ultimate the ovaries. One study investigated 1,300 African-American women with ovarian cancer. Baby powder use was common in 62.8% of those women, suggesting an increased cancer risk from regular talcum powder usage. A 2016 study analyzed the association of ovarian cancer and genital talc use. Results indicated that genital use of talc increased ovarian cancer risk by 33%. The risk decreased the longer a woman went without using talc in the genital area.

Everyone is familiar with the irritating, itchy sensation of a bug bite. The itchiness starts almost immediately after the insect bites. Slapping the bite, scratching around the bite, or applying cold compresses can only provide so much relief. Is there a natural relief ointment or cream that proves effective for relieving itchiness? The anti-itch bug bite sticks in this article may be exactly what you need.

Even though summer is almost over, bug bite season is not. Insects tend to stick around until the beginning of fall, getting in every last bite possible. All of the fly strips, bug zappers, swatters, citronella sticks, and more cannot seem to win the war against insects. They always find a way past your defenses and get you when you least expect it.

Why You Shouldn’t Scratch A Bug Bite

The last thing you want to do is scratch the bite to the point of bleeding. Scratching a bug bite, especially a mosquito bite, makes the itching worse. Bug bites itch because of inflammation and scratching something that is already inflamed only increases the inflammation. That’s why bug bites itch more after you itch them. If you break the skin as a result of scratching, it can increase the risk of infection, itchiness, and it can make the healing process take longer.

Calendula Flower

Some people refer to calendula as the Swiss Army knife of the forest. It has many healing properties and can help relieve diaper rash, itchy eyes, wounds, dandruff, sunburn, and bug bites. It exhibits antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which accelerate the healing process while simultaneously reducing itchiness.

Beeswax

Beeswax has powerful properties that help to heal and protect the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties help accelerate wound healing and create a protective barrier on the skin. This helps to protect the skin from the environment and can relieve itching in the process. Additionally, beeswax exhibits antibacterial properties, which help to keep the skin clean and reduce the risk of more inflammation or contamination.

Lavender

If you’ve seen a lavender bush, you know that many bugs are attracted to it. More often than not, bees collect pollen from the flowers and bring it back to their hives. Well, as it turns out, lavender is a popular remedy for treating bug bites. The soothing properties are similar to that of chamomile and help to relieve pain or itchiness. Several studies found that it proves most effective for spider bites, fire ant bites, and bee stings. That being said, the notable anti-inflammatory properties work to relieve bug bites from all insects.

DIY Anti-Itch Bug Bite Sticks

Ingredients:

 • 1/2 cup sunflower oil
 • 1/8 cup calendula flowers
 • 1/8 cup lavender flowers
 • 1 tablespoon beeswax

Instructions:

 • Pour the oil in a glass canning jar and add the calendula and lavender flowers. Stir a few times to ensure that there are no air bubbles.
 • Screw the top on the jar and place it in a windowsill for about three weeks for a slow infusion.
 • If you want a quicker infusion process, set a heat-safe glass jar with the oil and flowers in a saucepan containing a few inches of water over low heat.
 • Keep an eye on the oil for about two hours and then strain the oil, discarding the flowers.
 • Add the beeswax to a heat-safe glass jar along with 3 tablespoons of the infused oil that you reserved. Place it in a saucepan with a few inches of water in it over low heat.
 • Allow the beeswax to melt and stir well to combine.
 • Remove from the heat carefully and pour into lip balm tubes or tins. Allow the mixture to harden completely before putting on the tops.
 • To use the bug bite sticks, dab the bug bite with them as needed to relieve itchiness.

If you aren’t hip to calendula oil yet, it’s time to board the train because the health benefits are too good to pass up. The secrets about calendula are out, attracting the interest of scientific researchers and herbal enthusiasts alike. The calendula plant offers a wide range of benefits, and has proven to remedy myriad ailments over the years.

What Is Calendula?

This colorful flower belongs to the Asteraceae/Compositae family and is native to areas in Canada and the United States. As long as the soil is fertile and well-drained, you can grow calendula, especially if it has access to ample sunlight. The leaves are shades or rich oranges and yellow, and have a lovely fragrance. Various animal and in vitro studies have concluded that the flavonoids from these petals exhibit neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic properties. This makes calendula a highly respected plant in the field of alternative medicine.

Historically, people used calendula to treat kidney stones and gall stones, primarily because it has disinfectant and diuretic properties. Italian folk medicine used to use calendula oil to reduce inflamed wounds and burns. Some cultures brewed the petals into teas and used it as a face wash to reduce freckles or dark spots, or an eye wash to reduce the risk of conjunctivitis.

Health Benefits Of Calendula Oil

Nowadays, people continue to use calendula oil to remedy a variety of ailments. The most common uses involve topical application to reduce infections or fungus. According to research, however, calendula oil may help to reduce diaper rash, inflamed skin, and vaginal yeast infections. You can thank the triterpene saponins, triterpene alcohols, and flavonoids for calendula’s ability to do all of these things. These naturally occurring chemicals interact with the body to improve collagen synthesis and enhance new skin tissue growth. Continue reading to learn more about the primary benefits.

Calendula For Wound Healing

According to a recent study in The Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, calendula ointment was tested on cesarean scars in 72 women. The study compared the use of calendula ointment to conventional hospital treatment. The women who used calendula ointment had quicker healing time, and they reported less redness and swelling. Various animal studies tested calendula oil’s efficacy for healing bug bites, scrapes, burns, and bruises. The studies found that topical application of calendula oil encouraged 90% wound closing, compared to a separate controlled group. A newer study concluded that calendula oil may ward off infection, which contributes to faster wound closure.

Calendula As A Sunscreen

During in vitro studies, calendula oil exhibited an ability to encourage cell rejuvenation. The studies tested its efficacy as a sunscreen, showing a slight ability to protect the skin. Unfortunately, the evidence was not substantial enough to deem it acceptable as a sunscreen replacement. Fortunately, more studies are in the works to determine how effective it is at protecting the skin from UV damage

Calendula For Vaginal Health

Bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infections are two common occurrences for women. One study with 80 women monitored the use of calendula ointment compared to metronidazole, commonly used to treat bacterial vaginosis. After one week, the study found that both the ointment and metronidazole effectively cured bacterial vaginosis with no side effects. This sparked interest in the participants. The opportunity to use a natural ointment in place of medication excited the women.

Calendula For Muscle Spasms

If you want to ease muscle spasms or tension, get your hands on some calendula oil. According to a Pakistani study, calendula oil was able to relax spontaneous muscle contractions. A different study found that it helped to erase muscle spasms. Because of this ability to reduce muscle spasms, people wonder if it can be beneficial for menstrual cramping. According to anecdotal research, calendula helped induce menstruation for women who experienced irregular periods. It may also ease PMS symptoms like cramping, but more research is necessary to prove this.

How To Make Calendula Oil

Ingredients:

 • Dried calendula flowers or petals
 • Carrier oil of choice (extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, organ oil, sweet almond oil)
 • 1 glass container (half-pint jar works great)

Instructions:

 • Fill a half-pint glass jar about 3/4 of the way full with calendula flowers or petals.
 • Pour your desired oil into the jar so that the flowers are fully submerged.
 • Place a lid on the container and store it in a sunny, warm location to enhance the infusion process. A windowsill is perfect. It will stay here for three weeks.
 • After the three weeks, you have to strain the flowers from the oil. Pour the oil through a cheesecloth into measuring cup with a pour spout.
 • Pour the strained oil into a glass jar and store it in a cool, dry place. Use it on your body, or face at will.

Babies all around the world experience diaper rash. It’s nerve-wracking for parents and painful or irritating for the baby. As a parent, you don’t want to see your child in pain, so you try to remedy the rash with healing lotions and ointments. Since many of those lotions contain harmful chemicals, it is better to use natural ingredients to soothe irritation and get rid of the rash.

Understanding Why Diaper Rash Occurs

You have to understand the causes of diaper rash if you want to prevent it. The most common cause of diaper rash is the containment of moisture, warmth, and growth of organisms within the diaper. Candida or yeast, which is present in stool, is typically the growth. This is not always the cause of the rash, though. Some children have food sensitivities or allergies to certain materials. Chronic diaper rash, for instance, is most commonly attributed to a food allergen. Finding the allergen can take time, but there are ingredients that can remedy the situation in the meantime.

Beeswax For Diaper Rash

Beeswax has numerous benefits, one of the primary ones being that it nourishes the skin. Loaded with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and germicidal properties, beeswax can help fight diaper rash and soothe the skin. While there are dozens of lotions that contain beeswax, go straight to the source and incorporate it into a homemade salve.

Calendula For Diaper Rash

The recipe for this DIY diaper rash salve calls for infused calendula oil. Traditionally, calendula flowers have been used in herbal remedies for their medicinal properties. The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties are especially beneficial for wounds, burns, rashes, infection, and inflammation. Research suggests that calendula is better for diaper rash than aloe vera gel, but some children may be more sensitive to it.

DIY Diaper Rash Salve

Ingredients For The Calendula Infused Oil:

 • ½ cup dried calendula flowers
 • 1 cup sweet almond oil

Ingredients For The Salve:

 • 1 cup calendula infused oil
 • ¼ cup beeswax
 • 1 tablespoon marshmallow root
 • 1 tablespoon chickweed
 • 1 tablespoon comfrey rot
 • 1 teaspoon barberry root powder

Instructions For The Calendula Infused Oil:

 • Add the calendula flowers and sweet almond oil to a pint-sized mason jar.
 • Make sure that the flowers are completely submerged in the oil.
 • Cover the jar and allow it to sit in a sunny windowsill for one month.
 • Strain the flowers and reserve the oil in a jar for your diaper salve.

Instructions For The Salve:

 • Add the infused oil, marshmallow root, chickweed, comfrey root, and barberry root powder to a small saucepan over low heat. You do not want to cook the herbs, so make sure that it is very low heat.
 • Let the herbs infuse for 10 minutes and then add the beeswax. Stir the beeswax occasionally until it is completely melted.
 • Strain the herbs through a cheesecloth into a glass measuring cup with a pour spout.
 • Quickly pour the mixture into jars or small tins for storage. Allow the mixture to harden in the tins before screwing the tops on. Store in a cool dry place and use as needed.

Bees are incredible creatures, but bee populations have slowly dwindled in recent years. Now more than ever, it is important to support the products from beekeepers and their hives around the world. Sure, we can all purchase honey at farmer’s markets, but honey is far from the most beneficial substance that bees create. Beeswax deserves the same respect, if not more, that we give to honey because it helps the skin in so many ways. For instance, unlike petroleum jelly, beeswax doesn’t suffocate the skin; rather, it allows the skin to breathe while also providing a moisturizing protective barrier.

What Is Beeswax?

This healing substance comes from female honeybees and it is hard or breakable when cold, but soft when heated. It is a mixture of pollen, plant wax, and the secretion from the gland on the undersides of bees. Like honey, beeswax will vary in color depending on the flowers from which the honey is derived. Beeswax is commonly used to relieve swelling or skin irritation, but it also moisturizes, improves complexion, and relieves inflammation. How else can beeswax be used? Let’s explore the beauty benefits of beeswax below. How’s that for alliteration?!

Excellent Moisturizer

Beeswax is commonly found in cosmetic products because it has the ability to protect and repair dry or damaged skin. The rich vitamin A content and emollient properties help beeswax lock in the moisture and allow your skin to breathe simultaneously. The beauty of beeswax is that it doesn’t clog the pores and aids with healthy skin development at a cellular level.

Protect Against Environmental Damage

When you apply beeswax with some carrier oils like jojoba oil or coconut oil, it helps to establish a protective coating on the skin. The skin is constantly exposed to airborne toxins, be they from cigarette smoke, factory fumes, or car exhaust, and they can spawn damaging free radicals that contribute to premature signs of aging. Applying beeswax on the skin can help prevent this from happening and keep the skin looking young and supple.

Reduce Stretch Marks

Even though a high percentage of people have stretch marks, their appearance makes people uncomfortable and self-conscious. Because beeswax has the ability to protect the skin and help it retain water, it can have positive effects on getting rid of stretch marks. How does this work? According to a study that was conducted at Yonsei University College of Medicine in Korea, stretch marks are dermal atrophic scars caused by decreased collagen and skin elasticity. Since beeswax is rich in vitamin A, an antioxidant that boosts collagen production, it is beneficial for reducing stretch marks. Combine beeswax with coconut oil or cocoa butter and apply it to the stretch marks for best results.

Clears Up Acne

Due to the antiseptic, healing, anti-inflammatory properties, and high vitamin A content, beeswax is commonly used in home remedies to get rid of acne. In addition to fighting acne, beeswax contains emollient properties that contribute to a smoother complexion after acne elimination.

Soothes Eczema, Psoriasis, & Diaper Rash

It is almost inevitable for a baby to experience diaper rash at some point. The regenerative qualities and anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax work to not only decrease redness and irritation, but also to facilitate the healing process for reduced recovery time. People with psoriasis or eczema, or similar skin irritation or infection, can benefit from using beeswax to reduce inflammation and promote the growth of healthier skin cells.

People use Vaseline or petroleum jelly for different reason. Some people use it to moisturize dry skin, remedy chapped lips, soothe burns, or to keep a tattoo from drying during the healing process. New research, however, has indicated that this common skincare product is not beneficial for your body. In fact, it does more bad than good.

Vaseline’s role is to protect the skin and keep it from drying out. Depending on the weather, people may use it in lotion, ointment, or cream form. People even use it on infants to help remedy diaper rash. It doesn’t serve as a remedy, though, because it actually creates an atmosphere, in which bacteria can multiply.

Vaseline completely shuts down the pores and prevents your body’s natural ability to remedy the issue. Using it on burns, for example, makes it so the body preserves the heat in the tissues, rather than naturally getting rid of it. Do you still want to use Vaseline? Here are more reasons why you shouldn’t.

Destroys Skin’s Collagen

When you apply petroleum jelly to the skin, it inhibits the skin from being able to breathe. This also means that the skin can’t take in nutrients. Continued use of Vaseline requires more collagen use to keep the skin moisturized.

It Can Cause Pneumonia

If you continue to use petroleum jelly, you may experience a health condition known as lipid pneumonia. This only happens when the body intakes a large amount of petroleum jelly, e.g. via your pores. Since the body can’t dispose of it on its own, the lungs can become inflamed.

Full Of Hydrocarbons

Because the skin cannot process Vaseline, you increase your risk of various health ailments. In theory, the petroleum jelly should act as a protective layer, but it inhibits the body from healing naturally. One study found that Vaseline contained mineral oil hydrocarbons, which are a huge threat to the human body.

Do your skin a favor and use natural alternatives like coconut oil, shea butter, or beeswax. All of these are rich in vitamins and minerals that work with the body to naturally heal itself. They also contain anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent inflammation or dryness.

]]>

Candia albicans, also known as ‘candidiasis’ and ‘candida vaginitis‘ is a type of yeast infection. It inhibits the mucous membranes of genital tract (especially the female vagina), intestines, mouth (called ‘thrush’), throat and esophagus.

Systemic yeast (infection) is when the blood contains yeast and thus carries the yeast throughout the body. This is the form of yeast that goes undetected in many people. Normally the micro-organistic fungus lives in a healthy balance with other flora or bacteria in the body, but certain conditions such as acidosis disrupt the balance and cause the fungus to multiply.

Most candida problems occur with women in the vagina. When the vagina is infected by yeast, the result is called ‘vaginitis.’

Symptoms and Causes

Vaginitis causes inflammation of the mucous membranes of the vagina and is characterized by a large, white, thick, cheesy discharge and excruciating itching and burning.

The greatest culprit in causing candida or yeast infection is antibiotic medication prescribed by doctors. Antibiotics weaken the immune (defense) system and destroy ‘friendly’ or ‘beneficial’ bacteria that normally keep candida under control in the body.

All vaginal orders are First chakra disorders. The First chakra deals with ‘grounding.’ If you are not firmly grounded in your sexual belief system and orientation, you create an imbalance in your sexual reproductive system energy in general and your vaginal energy in particular.

Effects of Yeast Infections

Because vaginal disorders impede sexual activity, it is the body’s way of making a women stop or pause temporarily so as to concentrate on her mind, body, and emotions so as to address problems.

Males can also contract yeast infections. Candida infection in males manifests as jock itch or athlete’s foot.

Babies too also suffer from yeast infection, commonly oral thrush, white sores that form on the tongue and gums and also inside the cheeks.

Oral thrush can also manifest on the baby’s buttocks, manifesting as diaper rash.

Natural Alternatives

Natural alternatives to pharmaceutical grade antibiotic medication include the following herbs:

Antifungal herbs include:

Bee propolis is also antifungal in nature, although it’s not vegan.

Essential oils (plant blood) that are antifungal in nature include:

Add a few drops (1-3 drops) of these oils to your bath water.

Dietary Intervention

A healthy diet needs to be adapted, preferably vegan and/or raw foods (or a combination of both). Meat, dairy products, processed and refined so-called foods must go.

Yeast thrives in sugar. Eliminate processed and refined sugar from the diet and it’s harder for yeast to take hold. Herbs that can help you to kick the sugar habit include:

Lifestyle changes need to be made. You must adapt a healthier lifestyle. Become mobile (yoga, tai chi, qi chong, pilates, swimming, etc.). Wear loose fit clothing so your body can breathe. Embrace a positive, healthy, and loving mindset. All negative emotions and feelings (anger, envy, bitterness, jealousy, hatred, etc.) must be released and transmuted into positive energy.

Abstain from sex, including oral sex, until the yeast infection has cleared up. Give the vagina time to heal so that sex can be pleasurable and healthy.

Dherbs Solutions

For chronic vaginal yeast infection, try:

To knock out an insidious yeast infection within 3-5 days:

 • Take 5 capsules of Flora Balance every 2-3 hours for 3-5 days.
 • Only eat raw foods like salad. Drink plenty of vegetable juice throughout the day (3-5 times). Order the Full Body Cleanse Companion (ebook)for additional raw foods and vegetable juice recipes.
 • Bathe in sea salt (2 boxes), 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and Tea Tree Oil (5-8 drops) daily.
 • Perform an enema every other day. The enema solution should be herbal (consisting of Black Walnuts, Echinacea, and Goldenseal, and Cascara Sagrada). Make a tea of these herbs and pour the tea in your enema bag (if you use loose herbs, make sure you strain the tea first).
 • If you choose to do douching due to severe itching and inflammation, make a tea consisting of Red Raspberry Leaf, Marshmallow, Slippery Elm Bark, Mullein leaf, and Lemon Verbena, and add in 3 drops of Tea Tree Oil.

Candida Albicans or a yeast infection, both digestive and systemic, is a health problem of which answers to its elimination are far and few between. Literally millions of men and women have a potential yeast infection that is causing, directly or indirectly, a significant number of health problems or conditions.

Candida Albicans is a destructive yeast infection that begins in the digestive system and little by little spreads to other parts of the body. Candida is present in all of us not long after birth. Typically, this yeast remain in a healthful balance with the other bacteria and yeasts within the intestinal tract. Under certain conditions, such as excessive stress, lowered immunity or the long-term use of steroids, the candida yeast can multiply, thus disrupting the gastrointestinal “terrain”. Candida overgrowth may also be a consequence of antibiotic treatment, as antibiotics not only kill pathogens but also a large number of those bacteria that are part of a healthy gastrointestinal flora. With the depletion of the beneficial protective flora in the intestinal tract and a weakened immune response, this opportunistic yeast can then spread and multiply beyond the intestinal tract affecting every organ in the body. In babies, an overgrowth of candida appears as diaper rash. It can also be found on the body as jock itch or athlete’s foot. It can appear in the mouth as thrush or in the vaginal tract, known by many women as a yeast infection. Systemic yeast is now being associated with a variety of conditions ranging from mental disorders, deranged immune system, food intolerance, gastric upsets, premenstrual tension, infertility, ovarian failure, sexual function difficulties and fatigue.
