My last day. Wow I am soooo stoked. I woke up and ran to the scale. I lost a total of 20lbs. I was excited. Twenty pounds and my skin was as tight as it was before the detox. I thought nothing changed. I am sooo excited.

I got dressed and went out to get a smoothie from this wonderful restaurant called Bloom. They have vegetarian and organic foods so it was a good mix for me and my sisters. We talked about my detox and how I felt and they were proud of me.

I fell off once but I did good. My day went fine and I stayed happy even when I went to Nordstroms to buy some more jeans. I was proud of myself. I had more energy, slept well, and lost weight while adjusting to my new habits. I think I will stay on the veggies and fruits for a while and incorporate fish every now and then. Who knows I might turn vegetarian by my birthday. 

Stay tuned for my next adventure with my next detox in January 2010. I am determined and will meet my goals by my birthday.

Today I woke up at 6:00 a.m. without an alarm. I felt so refreshed. I went into the bathroom to start getting ready for work and noticed when I looked in the mirror under my eyes got lighter. I have had a problem with looking like a raccoon since I was younger. I usually would put foundation on or concealer to hide them. I decided not to get on the scale until tomorrow even though it was tempting.

I got to my second job worked on the computer all day. I bought a smoothie for  breakfast and lunch and was going out for dinner. When I got off work, I went home to get ready for my dinner date. I tried on an outfit that in my mind worked but it didn’t fit. It was waaaay too baggy and I didn’t have time to pin it all up. So I started for my closet to find an outfit. All my dresses did not fit. My pants were saggy in the butt. I was freaking out… in a good way though.

In the corner of my closet I keep a box of “I Wish” clothes that I hope one day to be able to fit again. I mean clothes that I love, love, love. As I dusted off the box that hadn’t been opened in God knows how long, I found this little black dress. I stared at it for a while and just thought if I could fit this dress I would be soooo happy. I placed it on the bed and went in the bathroom to wash my face and do my makeup. I realize that after I wash my face it is really dry and I use a thin layer of OZ Oil on my face before I put on foundation or concealer. It seems to keep my concealer on and clears up my blemishes at the same time. I started for my bedroom and stared at the dress like a lion does to its prey. I picked it up and put it on and by the power of Greyskull it fit. I felt like a queen. I put on my highest pumps and strutted my ass out the door. It was a great night.

Eighteen days strong! It started out as a usual day. I was extremely happy for no reason at all.

Got to work, and was extremely focused. I completed way more work than I was suppose to this morning. Around lunch time, I started feeling a little sluggish and my co-worker Kimmie gave me a few of her Dherbs Energizer Formula capsules she keeps in her purse and I felt like I had drank a 5 hour energy drink. I had so much energy the rest of the day, I didn’t know what to do. I cleaned my house when I got off and organized my home office. I need to keep those in my purse at all times.

Wednesday was a wonderful day.

I woke up refreshed and happy. I had my smoothie and got to work. My co-worker Kelli and I were talking about how to become a vegan and all that you do and don’t do. She explained to me the different ways of going about making food that seems like what you would eat any day as a meat eater. My other co-worker Fatima made meatloaf from nuts, vegan cupcakes and other things that seemed to keep them satisfied with not just veggies and fruits. She said she would bring me some cookbooks to see how easy it was to make a few of these things. I figured if I can make things more interesting to eat since I don’t cook common foods all the time, it shouldn’t be so hard to take meat out of the equation. I got home had a salad and drank some ginger tea. I started looking on the internet for recipes that required no meat or dairy and that were totally vegan. I feel asleep with the laptop in my lap. Getting your rest on this detox is no joke. My body shuts down when it wants to without regard to a schedule.

Tuesday was my day from hell. It started off wrong and ended wrong. Got up late and I seemed to be really worn out.I got my smoothie, and went to work. I couldn’t seem to focus all day. I got my work done though. I had my lunch, another smoothie and left work on time.

I had to go to school even though I wasn’t feeling it. I went to school and by the grace of God we got out early. I started home and stopped by the store to get a bag of spinach to make my salad.

My friend stopped by and we hung out for a little talking about computers and work (secretly, I am a nerd and no one really knows!) While sitting on the couch not doing anything but talking, in a split second I couldn’t breathe. Now, I do have asthma. A mild case that only shows up when I’m exercising hard like spinning, running or have the flu, but I was sitting on the couch. All I could think was “for real?”

I found that with every breath, it was getting harder and harder for me to breathe. I slowly told my friend to go boil me some water. Usually I can eat some spicy food and it would fix itself but this is not a normal thing. I haven’t had an asthma attack like this since I was 13. After he boiled me some water, I asked him to make me some coffee. By this time he started freaking out, with every syllable of what I was trying to get out, I had to take a breath.

I happened to have instant coffee in the cabinet because I use it to bake cookies. Now don’t get me wrong, I have asthma and by no means did a “doctor” tell me to stop using my inhaler, but I know it’s steroids and I was addicted to it when I was younger. I did not want to continue on that path and around 19, I stopped using it so there was not one inhaler in the house. I started drinking the black coffee and with each sip, I was feeling better.

I did not know what exactly caused it but it is what it is. All I can imagine is that my lungs probably were getting out toxins that needed to be released and it triggered an attack on the way out. I was fine the rest of the night but my friend wasn’t!

Today I was late to work, finishing up a project for a real estate company. I had a late start on my food intake but made sure my pills were at least covered. I could notice the difference eating breakfast at a later time that my body was used to. I was kinda sluggish when I finished the project and started off to work. My smoothie usually lasts at least two and a half hours because I get a large and don’t just down it. I knew I wasn’t gonna leave for lunch so I brought a vegetable drink for lunch and some more carrots just in case. It was a smooth day from there.

Except I got caught up at my second job working 4 hours that were not scheduled so for dinner it was another smoothy because that was the closest thing to me. I conked out about 9:00p.m.

So I did, I had a smoothie, veggie juice, a salad and nuts. The rash came back but only in the a.m. , by noon it was gone.

I started to map out a plan and look at the vegetarian cookbooks to see the dishes I wanted to make first. I took naps on and off all day guess all the work I had been doing was making me tired.

Today I decided not to go to school because of this spreading rash. It moved around my body all day. It was so uncomfortable and I looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.I had a house warming party to go to and I couldn’t go looking and feeling like this. I did not have any sea salt to put in my extra hot bath water so I put some tea tree oil that I use to clean my face in the water. It smelled so good and seemed to make the rash calm down. When I got out my one hour bath, I took a shower and washed with the Lemongrass & Tea Tree Soap soap I normally use (just don’t feel clean in a bath lol). After I got out, I used the Oz oil and it also helped with the dry skin the rash was giving me as well as controlled the itching. 

I went to my house warming party which consisted of no healthy food and a mother load of alcohol. I slipped. I ate a spinach filled ravioli that was fried.  I was so mad at myself on the drive home. I was hungry as hell and the invite said veggie platter and there was not a veggie platter. There was a cheese platter and a meat platter but no veggie platter.

Sigh.

One slip in 13 days.  Even though in reality it’s not bad. For me it is. I wanted to go through this without a hang up and I fell to a damn fried ravioli. I went to sleep when I got home.

My day started as usual with a smoothie, snack, salad and off to my second job. On my way to work, I had the “how did you become a vegetarian” talk with a classmate of mine. He always seems so energized and never seems to have problems. No ever really sick, good complexion, you know, all that stuff. He said he went cold turkey. As I rolled my eyes as he talked, he explained it was your mind over your programing of we must have meat at a meal. He was right. When we went out, I would get buffalo wings, he would get a cheese pizza or spring rolls. But is just cutting out meat OK? Dherbs always says that cheese and dairy products are bad also. Am I strong enough to stop eating cheese? If bacon is my crack, cheese is my cocaine. I mean when I was little, I would cut a piece of cheese of the block and just eat it. Yes, it was serious and still is. I was skinny as hell but had high ass cholesterol. But that was programmed into me. My dad did it and so did I. Everything had to have cheese on it. I mean everything. Potatoes, sandwiches, extra cheese on pizzas, just cheese platters, I mean everything. I must cut my ties with this form of cocaine (melted, blocked, shredded and even liquid form).

As I drove home I had a itch that could not be satisfied. It started on my back and seemed to move to my side. When I got home I looked in the mirror at it and it was a rash. I thought to myself…what in the hell? About an hour later after my bath, it got worse. I freaked out. I called my boss at dherbs and told him what was going on (mind you it was 1:30a.m.). I was in the car about to go to emergency when he called back and said it’s normal. The detox is meant to pull toxins out of your system and apparently your blood had a lot of toxins to get rid of. That call saved me about 500 dollars in emergency costs I didn’t need to spend. I took my itchy ass to sleep.

Is it Thursday already? The days are passing by so fast now. I’m kinda excited.

I had a conversation with my boss today about my lifestyle changes I’m going to make. Right about now he is basically a vegetarian. Maybe every now and then he may have meat (mainly fish or turkey) but his girlfriend is very talented in the art of “Raw Cooking”. She is amazing. If I could make the dishes she makes I would have no problem being a vegetarian or vegan. I’m really gonna make an effort I told him.

I purchased some vegetarian cookbooks from William Sonoma and subscribed to vegetarian magazine which is a small start. In the last year, I have expanded my vegetable choices from just spinach, carrots, bags of salad greens, green beans and asparagus to beets, bok choy, leeks, and kale to name a few.

Believe me Whole Foods is your friend. Even if you feel its prices are out of your league, just the knowledge you gain from asking questions about the fruits and vegetables is amazing. Even seasonings! They know everything.

My boss has known me for about 5 or 6 years and has seen my struggles with my weight. He asked me if I was completely done with meat, and I thought about it… With everything I know about meat, you’d think it would be an easy task but it’s not. I gave up cow about 5 years ago just on principle alone.  Turkey, I only seem to eat like once a month.  Chicken, I eat a lot and pork I only eat every blue moon. (I mean champagne brunch without bacon? It’s like crack to me.) Fish, I tend to eat more than chicken and it usually is always pan seared, baked, blackend or broiled. I haven’t had fried fish, chicken or turkey in a very long time. If I can shake chicken…I might be OK with eating fish only 2 times a week to start my transition. He agreed I needed to start somewhere and going cold turkey (no pun intended) is hard for a lot of people.
