Raw vegan cheese recipes typically cashews or almonds, but not this one. This raw substitute for parmesan cheese is made with raw sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast and sea salt. Nutritional yeast is a constant in most vegan or raw vegan cheese recipes because it provides that classic cheesy flavor. As a product, nutritional yeast comes in the form of flakes, granules, or a powder. Most nutritional yeast that you find in grocery stores is fortified with high levels of many vitamins, including vitamin B6, riboflavin, thiamin, folate, and vitamin B12. So not only does it impart a cheesy flavor, but it also supplies you with valuable nutrients that can be difficult to obtain on a raw vegan diet.

To be fair, this raw vegan parmesan recipe does not taste like regular parmesan cheese. It does enhance the flavors of dishes that would normally benefit from parmesan cheese, though. Consider adding it on raw zucchini noodle recipes, in homemade raw pesto recipes, or even as a salad topper. How you use this parmesan is entirely up to you, but it is highly versatile and easy to make in a food processor or high-speed blender. Just make sure that you do not over-blend the sunflower seeds until they become a puree. You want this parmesan cheese to have some texture.

A few tips for blending: have your food processor or blender on pulse setting. Pulse for a few seconds at a time or else you will end up with some savory sunflower seed butter if you don’t. To prevent this, stop blending and give it a mix as soon as you see the mixture start to clump. Once it reaches a nice finely ground consistency, you are finished and can pour it into a jar for storage.

For many Americans, the predominant feasting days are Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Super Bowl Sunday. The Super Bowl, also known as the big game, is not just an ordinary watch party to cheer on football teams. It is a day to enjoy everyone’s favorite snacks, comfort foods, and drinks. The spread is almost more important than the game, commercials, and halftime show.

Super Bowl Statistics

During Super Bowl Sunday, an estimated 48 million Americans order take out. Nearly 60% of those take out orders are pizza, which is partially attributed to all the advertisements. Plus, pizza is an easy, affordable entree that can feed a lot of people. In addition to pizza, chicken wings and chips and dips are the most popularly ordered foods. Did you know that an estimated 1.25 billion chicken wings are eaten during Super Bowl Weekend? That equates to nearly 162.5 million pounds of chicken, proving that this weekend is responsible for 7% of chicken sales for the year.

Food and beverages account for the majority of spending for at home celebrations for the big game. The latest analytics for the 2026 game suggest that 213.1 million U.S. adults plan to watch the game. This year, about 121.1 million people plan to throw or attend a party, while another 18.2 million plan to watch at a bar or restaurant. Total spending on food, drinks, apparel, and decorations for the 2026 game is expected to reach a record $20.2 billion, which equates to about $94.77 per person.

If you want to take a different approach to your game day spread, we’ve got some great recipes for you. The following appetizers and dips may not even make it past the first half! That’s how good they are! Let us know which ones you end up making on game day in the comments.

This is a simple yet vibrant, tangy salad dressing made from simple, wholesome ingredients that come together to make one flavorful creation. Smooth and rich olive oil forms the base, while freshly squeezed lemon juice brightens the dressing with a clean, citrusy lift. A touch of apple cider vinegar, will do, as too much can overpower the other ingredients. It also adds extra acidity, ensuring the dressing stays lively and balanced.

In order to create savory depth without tamari or soy sauce, we included coconut aminos in this dressing, as it is not only raw vegan, but also gluten-free and gently sweet. The mild, umami-rich flavor pairs beautifully with nutritional yeast, which contributes an almost cheesy, nutty note to the dressing. Nutritional yeast is especially beneficial for vegans because it contains fortified B vitamins (most notably B12), which can be harder to obtain if you follow a plant-based diet. Its flavor and nutritional profile make it a valuable ingredient for vegan dishes. Mustard powder helps add another dimension of flavor to the dressing, bringing everything together with a subtle tang.

If you are familiar with our recipes, especially our salad dressing recipes, you know that we cannot omit garlic or garlic powder. It adds aromatic warmth, while the kiss of agave nectar provides just enough sweetness to round out the sharper flavors. What you are left with is a versatile, well-balanced dressing that enhances leafy greens, roasted vegetables, grain bowls, or even works as a quick marinade. Whisk all of the ingredients together in a matter of minutes and you will have a truly special creation!

The holidays are just around the corner, which means that fun, excitement, and joyous times are fast approaching. It also means that some inevitable stress is on the way. That stress can be attributed to family dynamics, holiday airport travel, or gift giving. A recent study actually found that a high percentage of Americans have anxiety about the holidays because of budget concerns.

Fortunately for you, we provide lots of DIY beauty recipes that you can make and give as gifts. A little handmade soap, body butter, lotion, or face mask never hurt a soul! Making hand soap is a great idea because it can encourage hand washing, which can help minimize the spread of germs, which spread like wildfire during the winter months. Your gift is not only heartfelt, but may also help avoid getting sick. It’s like you are the holiday health hero!

What’s Wrong With Other Holiday Hand Soaps?

There are many beauty stores that sell holiday-scented hand soaps around this time of year. We are not the biggest fans of those products because a lot of them contain ingredients that can disrupt endocrine function. They may also contain ingredients that can cause immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity. There are many foaming hand soaps with various scents, some of which contain methylisothiazolinone, a known chemical to trigger allergies or immunotoxicity.

Many of those products also contain synthetic fragrances, which can trigger allergies, endocrine disruption, and cause hormonal imbalances. Why risk all of that for a scented hand soap, when you can easily make your own, healthier version in no time? Knowing what goes in your beauty products is not only helpful to your health, but it also gives you confidence about using harmless products. Consider some of the benefits of certain ingredients in this hand soap.

Liquid Castile Soap

This olive oil-based soap is generally mild and a lot safer than other soaps, which are made with animal-based fats or oils, lye, and scents or fragrances. You want to avoid unwanted reactions on the skin, making castile soap a great option. Pure castile soap is all natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, and free of synthetic ingredients. Castile soap is also ethically better and more eco-friendly. In fact, more and more people have started to use it because it reduces a person’s environmental impact. It is also cruelty-free, so you can feel good about using it.

Sweet Almond Oil

Rich in antioxidants and nutrients that benefit the skin, sweet almond oil is a great ingredient to help soothe the skin and hair. Thanks to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, almond oil can be used in various applications. It is a natural emollient that helps to hydrate the skin, enhancing moisture and increasing smoothness. Research indicates that using a hand cream made with sweet almond oil provides relief from hand dermatitis, relieving symptoms like burning, stinging, redness, and itchiness. It is generally safe for most skin types, especially sensitive skin, because it is lightweight.

DIY Candy Cane Hand Soap

Ingredients:

 • 3 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap
 • 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
 • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
 • 15 drops peppermint essential oil
 • 10 drops spearmint essential oil
 • Distilled water

Instructions:

 • Pour the soap, glycerin, almond oil, and essential oils into a soap container.
 • Fill the rest of the container with distilled water. Screw on the lid and shake well to combine.
 • You can make custom labels for your soap if making holiday gifts. It gives the soap a personalized and fancy touch.

If you are someone who loves a room with a scent, chances are that friends or family will give you candles this holiday season. Candles are an easy gift to give, and they are even easier to regift if you don’t like the scent. Unfortunately, a lot of candles and air fresheners or wall plug-ins contain harsh chemicals that affect the endocrine system. They can even be harmful for respiratory systems, especially if you have little ones in the house.

Scientific research indicates that there is a lack of oversight in the United States when it comes to the fragrance industry. You may not know it, but you are surrounded by fragrances in shampoos, detergents, makeup, creams, toners, lotions, and so much more. All of these products contain unnamed artificial fragrance blends. There are over 4,000 fragrance ingredients disclosed on the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) transparency list. Many of them are linked to serious health problems, including cancer, hormonal imbalances, and respiratory issues.

Due to copyright laws, though, manufacturers do not have to disclose the ingredients in their fragrance blends. Even fragrance-free products can contain some problematic ingredients on the IFRA transparency list. The unfortunate reality is that many of these ingredients are in a lot of products that you probably use right now. That’s why we encourage you to boycott air fresheners and candles and make the room sprays in this article instead.

DIY Holiday Room Sprays

These holiday room sprays are quick and easy to make, and they make your home smell amazing. What’s even better is that they are free of toxic chemicals and make for excellent gifts, which is great if you are trying to save some money this holiday season. Additionally, you can spray them on your bed to freshen up your linens. A quick note before we provide the recipes is that you should use dark glass bottles for these sprays. The reason for that is because essential oils contain potent compounds that can break down and react when they come in contact with plastic. Essential oils also go bad if exposed to UV radiation.

How To Make Holiday Room Sprays

You will need your dark glass bottles, distilled water (if possible), and high quality essential oils. Make sure that your essential oils are pure because fake essential oils are just as bad as synthetic candles and air fresheners. Finally, you will need witch hazel, which helps combine water and essential oils, allowing the scent to linger in the room for a long time.

Holiday Cheer Spray

 • Unscrew the top and fill the remainder of the glass with distilled water. Screw on the top and shake again to combine. Spray when ready.

Christmas Tree

 • 10 drops cedarwood essential oil

 • 5 drops nutmeg essential oil
 • 10 drops cypress essential oil

 • Unscrew the top and fill the remainder of the glass with distilled water. Screw on the top and shake again to combine. Spray when ready.

Candy Cane

 • 15 drops peppermint essential oil
 • 15 drops spearmint essential oil
 • 2 ounces witch hazel
 • Distilled water

Instructions:

 • Add the essential oils to a four-ounce dark glass spray bottle followed by the witch hazel, screw on the top, and shake well to combine.

This vibrant vegan pesto made with broccoli stems offers a refreshing twist on an old classic sauce (pesto) while reducing kitchen waste. We say this because people typically discard broccoli stems and only focus on using the florets. The stems offer valuable nutrients and taste incredible, whether you blend them into a pesto, shred them for slaws, or cook them in stir-fries. This recipes calls for blending broccoli stems with basil, garlic, lemon, pine nuts, nutritional yeast, and a handful of seasonings to create a naturally creamy pesto that balances earthiness with subtle sweetness. This smooth, green pesto adheres beautifully to zoodles, spreads easily on sandwiches, or works as a tasty dip for fresh vegetables.

Using broccoli stems in pesto also invites a pleasant yet mild flavor that doesn’t overpower the aromatic basil. They have a firm yet tender texture once you peel them, and they give the sauce body without the need for cheese. That makes this recipe an easy vegan, and even raw vegan, staple for future cooking. Due to the relatively light flavor of the stems, they pair especially well with citrusy ingredients, allowing the fresh lemon juice to brighten the pesto without creating a bitter flavor.

Broccoli stems themselves are generally under-appreciated in most kitchens. They are rich in fiber, which supports digestion and helps you feel fuller for longer, and they also contain many of the same nutrients found in the florets, such as vitamin C, vitamin K, and potassium. Because people typically discard the stems, using them helps reduce food waste while simultaneously stretching your grocery budget. Maybe now that you have this recipe, you can figure out more ways to incorporate them into other recipes you make in the future.

The post 5 Popular Types Of Winter Squash And How To Use Them appeared first on Dherbs - The Best All Natural Herbal Remedies & Products.

]]>

Fall and winter invite many different squash types. They are gorgeous in color, unique in shape, and are quite versatile. You can steam them, roast them, boil them, puree them, and even add them to foods such as breads and pies. Although the more unique and seasonal varieties show up at local farmers’ markets, you can typically find a good variety at most major grocery stores during fall and winter.

Squash is very dense and packed with flavor and nutrients. Most squash tends to have an orange flesh, such as pumpkins, butternut squash, or kabocha squash, which means it is rich in carotenoids. Those plant compounds benefit eye health, skin health, and immune function. They also contain complex carbohydrates and make great alternatives to classically unhealthy starches. Continue reading to learn more about winter squash and how to use them.

Butternut Squash

A popular winter squash that is typically available year round, butternut squash is the sweetest and most flavorful during the fall and winter. It has a deep, orange-colored flesh that is sweet, nutty, and rich. You can use it in both sweet and savory recipes, such as soups, salads, vegetable medleys, baked goods, casseroles, and pies. You have to peel butternut squash and cut it in half to remove the seeds and stringy bits.

Acorn Squash

An acorn squash is typically showcased in a themed, decorative box when you enter a grocery store during fall. It has a dark green skin and the shape resembles an acorn, hence the name. The flesh is either bright white or orange. This squash is perfect for roasting. Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, and roast it cut-side down until you can easily pierce it with a knife. Serve it as a side dish or stuff the center of a roasted half with quinoa and diced vegetables.

Delicata Squash

This is a cylindrical squash with a delicate, cream-colored skin that has splashes of orange, green, and yellow. The delicata squash, also referred to as the peanut squash or Bohemian squash, can be sliced into rounds or half-moons. It is best roasted, but make sure to scoop out the seeds prior to cooking. It makes for a great side dish, but it can also be a main course if you want to stuff it with different things, such as rice, quinoa, or meat.

Sugar Pumpkin

The sugar pumpkin, or pie pumpkin, is potentially the most popular winter squash. It is the type of pumpkin that you use if you want to make pumpkin pie from scratch, or if you want to make your own pumpkin puree. They have a bright orange skin with bright orange flesh and tend to be much smaller than traditional carving pumpkins. The rich, buttery flavor lends itself to both sweet and savory recipes. If you roast the pumpkin, you can also add it to a blender and blend with other ingredients to make a pumpkin soup.

Spaghetti Squash

We saved the most unusual for last, as this oblong winter squash has a stringy flesh that resembles spaghetti once you cook it. Make sure not to overcook the squash or else it will just become mushy. When cooked properly, the strands come apart and you can use it as a pasta substitute. It has a mellow flavor, so it easily takes on a variety of herbs and spices, or even sauces. Cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and roast cut-side down until you can pierce the skin easily with a fork.

Although these a wellness shot is tiny, it packs a mighty punch. You are probably used to seeing ginger turmeric wellness shots, especially in health food stores, such as Whole Foods. Those are amazing anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting little shots, but they can be a little spicy, especially for the uninitiated. While ginger and turmeric receive a lot of attention regarding immune health, elderberry deserves equal, if not more, attention.

There are elderberry gummies, elderberry syrup, and even elderberry kombucha. Why can’t there be elderberry wellness shots? Thing of this recipe as a concentrated version of all of those recipes. You can use fresh or dried elderberries for this recipes, but you have to cook them first because they contain cyanogenic glycosides. Although they are not poisonous, they can be toxic and cause digestive discomfort, especially in people with sensitive digestive systems. The safest way to consume elderberries is to make sure that they are cooked first.

Although these shots have a vibrant purple hue because of the elderberry, the taste does not come from elderberries. In fact, elderberry doesn’t really have much of a flavor, which is why elderberry syrups and such are flavored by other ingredients, such as lemon, cinnamon, and ginger. Lemon provides vitamin C, which helps control inflammation and increase nutrient absorption. Finally, these shots contain echinacea, which, like elderberries, may help reduce the length and severity of viral illness, especially when it comes to bacterial infections. So although these wellness shots won’t cure an illness, they may help enhance immunity and improve recovery time.
