Welcome to 2018! If you have decided to make healthy changes this year, we applaud you and encourage you to pursue your goals. Some of you might want to live healthier lifestyles, but you may not know where to start. One of the worst things you can do is to go overboard without a set program. The lack of planning can make it difficult to stay on the healthy path, and that doesn’t help you with your resolutions.

You should strive to drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water each day to stay properly hydrated.

Having a prepped lunch, dinner, smoothie, or snacks can help you avoid unhealthy food items. Dedicate one day out of the week to making meals for yourself and you’ll be well on your way to a healthier life.

If you have decided to take part in the Full Body Cleanse in the New Year and you have diabetes, there are a few things to take into consideration. You don’t have to deprive yourself of certain foods, but you do want to make sure that you are eating a balanced diet. You are also going to have to focus a little more on vegetables than fruit, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid fruit altogether.

 

Certain fruits have a lower glycemic index than others do, which means that your blood sugar won’t spike when you consume them. A great way to consume fruit while cleansing is to blend them into smoothies. To help make your life a little easier, here are five delicious smoothie recipes that are beneficial for diabetics.

 

Note: When making smoothies, it is important to not add any sweeteners like agave syrup or grade A maple syrup. You don’t need the added sugar on top of the natural sugars in the fruit.

 

For all of the smoothies, blend all of the ingredients in a blender until you get a smooth consistency. You can add more or less liquid depending on how thick you want the smoothie to be.

 

Awesome Green Smoothie:

Don’t be worried about this tasting like grass because it doesn’t. It contains tons of protein and essential minerals that the body needs.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana, frozen overnight
  • 1 handful of fresh blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons of raw chia seeds
  • 1 cup kale leaves, torn
  • 1 cup spinach leaves
  • 1 cup filtered water

 

Avocado & Pineapple Smoothie:

We know it may sound weird, but you can’t even taste the avocado in this. Avocado actually makes any smoothie creamy; plus, it gives you some healthy magnesium and omega-3s.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup homemade almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons raw chia seeds
  • ½ cup fresh pineapple, cubed
  • ½ avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1 cup Fuji apple, cubed
  • ½ cup broccoli florets
  • ½ cup spinach
  • ½ cup ice

 

Berry Delight Smoothie:

The berries in this smoothie are loaded with antioxidants, which help to fight free radicals in the body. The mango also works to regulate blood sugar levels.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup blueberries, frozen overnight
  • 1 cup blackberries, frozen overnight
  • 1 cup raspberries, frozen overnight
  • ¾ cup mango, cubed
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 2 cups kale leaves, torn
  • 1 tablespoon raw flaxseeds

 

Winter Fruit Smoothie:

Even though this smoothie is very green, you are going to want to keep drinking it!

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups filtered water
  • 1 green apple, cubed
  • 1 green pear, cubed
  • 2 cups kale or spinach
  • ½ cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup ice
  • juice of 1 lime
  • ½ cup green grapes

 

Green Machine Smoothie:

This smoothie really helps to clean out the digestive tract. It is also filled with lots of folate and vitamins.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup homemade almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon raw flaxseeds
  • ½ cup green grapes
  • ½ cup fresh spinach
  • ½ cup green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, chopped
  • ½ cup Fuji apple, cubed
  • ½ cup ice

The Full Body Cleanse is a challenge. It is not impossible and making it through the full twenty days is not out of your reach. Don’t ever say that you can’t do it, because you can. All you need is commitment and a will to succeed. Commit to this twenty-day regimen and you’ll emerge a healthier, newer version of yourself.

 

Those who have completed the Full Body Cleanse have totally changed their health for the better. Some people have amazing, transformative experiences, losing anywhere from 10-30 pounds. All of us here at Dherbs have done the cleanse, so we know that it can be difficult at times. This is why we are going to give you some tips you can do leading up to your cleanse that will set you up for success.

 

Step 1: Find Great Recipes

If you eat the same salad every day during the Full Body Cleanse, you will either get bored, lose interest in raw foods, or, worse, give up. Making it through the cleanse requires you to step out of your comfort zone and get a little creative with raw foods. Collect your raw food recipes prior to cleansing so that you have them in your arsenal when you start.

A great resource for raw recipes is our Full Body Cleanse Approved recipe section. All of these recipes are acceptable to eat while you are cleansing, and we continually post recipes in that section every week. You also may want to see if there are any raw food restaurants in your area or near your workplace. This saves you the hassle of meal preparation and allows you to treat yourself to a prepared meal.

 

Step 2: Stock Up On Essential Ingredients

There are a lot of foods that you cannot eat while you are cleansing, but there are lots of raw alternatives. Stock up on some of the following pantry items so that you are good to go.

  • Bragg Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Bragg Liquid Aminos to replace soy sauce
  • Raw Almond Butter to replace peanut butter
  • Raw Agave Nectar or Stevia to replace honey, sugar, or sweeteners
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil to replace regular oils
  • Herbal Teas to replace coffee
  • Sea salt to replace regular table salt

 

Step 3: Track Down a Blender

We feel that having a blender while you are cleansing is absolutely essential. Whether you are making smoothies in the morning, dressings for salads, raw soups, or various raw dips, the blender is something you will find yourself using a great deal. Track one down and you will be able to make a ton of recipes to keep you satiated. Blenders range in price and there are many affordable options that work fantastically.

 

Step 4: Be Prepared for Unexpected Challenges

There is going to come a time, or several times, when you are at work and you are suddenly starving. You might show up at a neighbor’s potluck party and there are only hotdogs and burgers. Succeeding on the Full Body Cleanse is all about planning preparing. Make sure you always have some raw nuts or seeds, dried fruit (without preservatives or added sugars), or raw homemade energy bars at the ready. These things can help you avoid falling off the wagon or cheating while cleansing.

 

Step 5: Get Your Family’s Support

Before starting with the cleanse, sit down with your household and make sure they’re going to help you succeed. This might mean asking your spouse to make regular dinner for the kids or just for his/herself. It may mean asking your family to not purchase snacks that will tempt you during your cleanse. Discuss what you need to succeed.

 

Step 6: Find a Friend

When you do the Full Body Cleanse with a friend or group of friends, you all can help each other stay on track. Cleansing with a partner can help you overcome obstacles and you can even trade recipes. You might even have a raw food party night!

 

Step 7: Switch to Decaf

Caffeine is not allowed on the Full Body Cleanse. You can’t drink coffee, soda, energy drinks, or caffeinated teas. If you rely on caffeine on a daily basis, we recommend switching to decaf coffee or drinking a cup of green tea in the mornings prior to the start of your cleanse. This will help you avoid caffeine withdrawal headaches.

 

Step 8: DO NOT Binge on Junk the Night Before

One of the worst things you can do to yourself the day before the cleanse is to pig out on junk food. Don’t go out and get drunk, eat a pint of ice cream, or shovel down a double cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake. Your body will pay for it because the cleanse is going to work to get all of those impurities out of your body.

 

Bonus: Trust the Process 

Like we said, the Full Body Cleanse isn’t easy. It requires you to rethink how you eat and be vigilant about what you put in body, which, of course, takes time and effort. Some days will be easier than others. Sometimes you’ll find yourself in a raw food groove and other times you’ll be craving chips or steak. Quick Tip: Spinach has an array of minerals, antioxidants, and vitamins. While spinach may turn your smoothie green, it often does not take over the taste of other fruits.

 

Banana:

Bananas can help fight back against gas, bloating, or water retention. They help promote healthy gut bacteria, which encourage a healthy digestive system. Nothing gets held up or blocked in the body!

 

For the smoothie prep, we are giving you the ingredients to make one smoothie bag. You can multiply that by three, five, seven, or even 20 if you want to!

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple cubes

Instructions:

We frequently get asked how much a person should eat during a typical day of cleansing. While this will vary from person to person, we tell people that they are going to have to eat more than they think. It is extremely important to listen to your body when you are cleansing. If you are thirsty, drink some water or tea. If you are hungry, eat anything that is Full Body Cleanse approved. Don’t avoid eating because you think you have had too much food. Eat until you are content!

 

Most people don’t eat enough when they are cleansing. Three meals a day does not really hold the average person over. How do you make yourself feel full? Are there signs that indicate that you should cleanse? If you have been feeling sluggish, fatigued, constipated, or you aren’t digesting food properly, it may be beneficial to cleanse your body of impurities. Don’t let inflammation and toxic waste build up inside your body! Cleanse so that you can start living your best life.

 

When people purchase our cleanses, one of the most common questions is, “How do I prepare for the cleanse?” Lucky for you, we have some great tips to get your body ready for the cleansing experience. You know what the first tip is? We can tell you for sure that it is not to go out and treat yourself to a burger.

 

Before the Cleanse:

Some people like to have a last hurrah and eat themselves into a food coma before the cleanse starts. You don’t want to do this because the herbs are going to work to get all those toxins you consumed out of your body. It is beneficial to stop consuming dairy products a few days before you start cleansing. Dairy products are full of antibiotics and hormones, which slow digestion.

 

It is also wise to cut back on or completely stop eating meat, poultry, or meat products prior to cleansing. Did you know that eating two ounces of chicken a day exposes the person to 3-5 micrograms of inorganic arsenic (the most toxic form of the element)? Meat, dairy, and poultry typically contain carcinogenic compounds that can lead to developmental, reproductive, or hormonal complications.

 

This means that you should eat a plant-based vegetarian diet in the days leading up to the cleanse. This will help you transition into the raw foods diet.

 

Speaking of Food…

It is important that you go and stock up on a lot of groceries. Take a gander at our recipe section to see all of the different meals you can make. You’ll want to get a variety of salad greens, other vegetables, and your favorite fruits for morning smoothies and snacks. We advise buying avocados, your favorite raw nuts and seeds, raw almond butter, raw apple cider vinegar for salad dressings, bananas, and things like bell peppers, carrots, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini (or pre-spiralized zucchini noodles), basil for homemade pesto, and any other raw fruit/vegetable you enjoy.

 

While You’re Cleansing:

Try starting every morning by drinking a glass of alkaline or distilled water. That helps your body to digest your food when you start eating. Pineapple can be a great fruit to eat for breakfast or add to smoothies because it contains a beneficial digestive enzyme. Between breakfast and lunch (yes you will be hungry again), try to eat a handful of raw almonds or eat a sliced apple and dip the slices in raw almond butter.

 

Lunch should consist of a big green salad. Make sure your salad is colorful, so that you get a wide variety of nutrients. You’ll be hungry again before dinner, so it is advised to eat a handful of raw cashews or eat some carrot sticks with homemade guacamole. You can have some spiralized zucchini noodles dressed in a homemade pesto for dinner. If you’re feeling like you want something sweet later on, try making a raw banana ice cream by using bananas, ice, and a little agave.
