]]>

In one of our previous articles about the ketogenic diet, we claimed that a person following the keto diet should predominantly focus on consuming plant-based foods. We aren’t about to recant that statement, in case you thought we were. According to research, that statement is quite accurate.

Due to the weight loss benefits people experience on the keto diet, we have received a lot of inquiries about the possibility of maintaining the keto diet while taking part in the Full Body Cleanse. If the keto diet should be plant-based, can it also be done on a raw vegan diet, i.e. the one that accompanies all of our cleanses? We have to clarify a few things before we give you a “yes” or a “no.”

One must first understand that there are many variations of the keto diet. All of these variations, which fall under the keto umbrella, help to get your body into a state of ketosis. Fat is your friend on the keto diet and carbohydrates are like distant relatives you only see once in while. The modified variations are a little more lenient with the amount of protein and fibrous carbs you can eat.

Getting your body into ketosis is no easy task. The body has to transition from using glucose for energy to fats and ketones. This process is different for every single person, due to the fact that exercise, total calories consumed, baseline metabolism, genetics, and more all come into play. One person may be able to consume 100 grams of carbs a day and be fine, while another person could consume five grams of carbs a day and be kicked out of ketosis.

How Do You Do Keto While Cleansing?

Because there are many approaches to keto, there are numerous online resources detailing plant-based keto recipes and meal plan recommendations. You don’t need to eat bacon-wrapped jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese in order to be keto. On the contrary, there are many raw, plant-based foods that satisfy keto requirements. You’ll find a few helpful tips to succeeding on the keto diet while cleansing below.

Befriend Oils:

Because you won’t be consuming meats, you need to familiarize yourself with certain oils to obtain sufficient amounts of fat. You can obtain healthy fats from extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, pumpkin seed oil, avocado & avocado oil, macadamia nut oil, and walnut oil, all of which are cleanse-approved.

Stick To Low-Carb Fibrous Vegetables:

Since you have to limit your carbs, it is ideal to stick to fibrous vegetables while cleansing. Unfortunately, beets and other root vegetables contain a lot of carbs, so avoid them. Great low-carb vegetables to eat include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, all leafy greens (spinach, kale, chard, romaine, or arugula), celery, raw mushrooms, zucchini, cauliflower, and cabbage.

Track You Macros:

We aren’t talking about calorie counting because you don’t do that while cleansing. You have to count your macronutrient ratios to keep your body in ketosis. Carbs are hidden in many foods you wouldn’t suspect, so it is recommended to get a chronometer app or the “MyFitnessPal” app.

Limit Fruit Consumption:

While you are cleansing, it is crucial to focus your efforts on raw vegetables and raw nuts & seeds to remain in ketosis. It’s important to limit your fruit consumption. When you do eat fruit, make sure to eat the ones that are low-ish in carbs, including strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. You shouldn’t exceed a half-cup a day.

If you are worried about your protein sources, know that a lot of green vegetables contain protein. Additionally, nuts and seeds are great protein sources. Some great protein options include raw protein powder (like Garden of Life), hemp seeds, chia seeds, and flaxseeds.

The keto diet is only hard if you think it is. Blend an avocado with some ice, coconut oil, and a handful of spinach for a perfect keto smoothie. You’ll begin to find new raw keto options available to you every day.

We are all about seasonal eating. Not only can buying seasonal produce save you money, but it is also the best way to eat the freshest, local produce. Most places in the U.S. see the same produce items when they are in season, but produce times peak at different areas, especially when it comes to buying from farmers markets.

You may seem certain produce items while you are cleansing and say to yourself, “I want to eat that, but I don’t know how to eat it or if it’s cleanse-approved.” If it is a fruit or vegetable, you are typically safe to eat it while cleansing, but there are a few exceptions. You may not want to eat butternut squash raw, for instance.

The most important thing about cleansing is to vary your meals to keep your taste buds interested. Check out the following cleanse-approved recipes for upcoming fall produce.

Fennel:

Fennel has an assertive licorice flavor, which can be an acquired taste. People who use fennel should thinly slice it with a mandolin and incorporate it into slaws or salads. You can also cut up the fronds in dips or spreads.

Apple:

Probably the most signature fall fruit, apples are crisp and complement things like almond butter, fennel, kale, and arugula. Make sure to wash the skins because they are often coated with pesticides and wax.

Melons:

Melons actually help to keep you hydrated because of their high water content. Get your fill of honeydew and cantaloupe, which are late summer fruits, before they are gone.

Cucumbers:

There’s nothing like a crisp cucumber, which helps to hydrate the body while you eat it. Rich in a variety of nutrients, cucumbers go great in salads, juices, or in detox waters. You can also snack on them by soaking them in lemon juice, sea salt, and chili powder.

Broccoli:

Broccoli is one of the best plant-based protein sources and it can be treated in many ways. Whether you roast it, blend it, shred it for salads, blend it for dips, or crunch on it as a snack, broccoli pairs well with powerful flavors like ginger, garlic, pepper, or red pepper flakes.

Eat These Foods To Naturally Cleanse Your Body https://www.dherbs.com/articles/eat-these-foods-to-naturally-cleanse-your-body/ https://www.dherbs.com/articles/eat-these-foods-to-naturally-cleanse-your-body/#comments Thu, 30 Aug 2018 11:30:23 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=84661 There are many ways to cleanse the body, but one of the best ways is via your diet. Eat these foods to help eliminate toxins form the body.

]]>

Bloating, gas, or constipation is quite common in America, primarily because of how much junk food and processed ingredients people eat. While it is possible to eat foods that help naturally cleanse the body, they don’t really work if a dietary change is not made. Making the decision to eat healthier not only aids the natural cleansing process, but it also helps with weight loss, improved digestion, clearer skin, and a stronger immune system.

There are certain foods that benefit the liver, while other foods work to cleanse the lymphatic system or kidneys. As we mentioned before, these foods work best when they aren’t working through the built-up toxins from unhealthy foods. While we always advocate to cleanse the body at least twice a year, incorporate the following foods into your daily diet to aid the year-round cleansing process.

Cabbage:

Whether you like green or red cabbage, keep eating it because it contains sulforaphane, which helps eliminate toxins. Glutathione, which is an antioxidant that boosts liver function, is also abundant in cabbage. You can also eat sauerkraut (cabbage in its fermented form), to help promote healthy gut bacteria.

Citrus Fruit:

Regularly consuming lemons, oranges, limes, or grapefruit can help to naturally flush toxins from the body. Citrus fruits help to jump-start the enzymatic processes in the digestive tract, and they also work to cleanse the kidneys and liver. Adding pieces of citrus fruits to your water is a great way to constantly reap their benefits. Their alkalinity also helps restore the body’s pH balance.

Garlic:

Garlic is a great cleansing food because it stimulates the production of detoxification enzymes in the liver. These enzymes help to filter the toxins from the digestive system. Start adding garlic to your meals, or add it to juices or smoothies for the raw benefits.

Leafy Greens:

It’s important to eat your green vegetables, and not just because your mother said so. Leafy greens help to boost chlorophyll levels in the digestive tract, which aids with natural cleansing. Chlorophyll helps remove toxic metals, herbicides, pesticides, and other environmental toxins from the body. Because greens are versatile, you can consume them in the form of salads, smoothies, soups, juices, or dips.

Green Tea:

Containing antioxidants that help boost liver performance, green tea is also rich in catechins, which work to fight the growth of cancer cells. Green tea can help to naturally wash away toxins as it passes through the digestive tract.

Beets:

Beets are rich in magnesium, iron, and vitamin C, which helps to fight free radicals. The fiber in beets helps to increase the amount of antioxidant enzymes in the liver. Additionally, beets can help the liver and gallbladder eliminate excess bile.

Transitioning to a healthier lifestyle is not the easiest thing to do. Take it from the CEO of Dherbs, A.D. Dolphin, who had to turn his life around after developing unhealthy eating habits over 15 years ago. He was introduced to cleansing and has been introducing the world to the Full Body Cleanse, Dherbs’ most popular product, ever since. A.D. stopped by the Breakfast Club to talk about how integral it is to regularly cleanse the body and continually eat healthier.

Breakfast Club radio hosts D.J Envy and Angela Yee are no strangers to living healthy. They recently opened a Brooklyn location of the Juices For Life franchise, which was started by Jadakiss and Styles P. The goal of the juicery is to spread awareness about eating your way healthy. If you ate your way into poor health, it stands to reason that you can eat your way out of it by putting beneficial foods in your body. This is exactly the message that A.D. has been promoting ever since he started Dherbs Inc.

A.D. gave each member of the Breakfast Club a cleanse, and they discussed it in great detail. The Full Body Cleanse completely immerses the user in a newer, healthier way of life because that is what it takes to turn your life around. Stay healthy, people!

How To Stay Energized During The Day While Cleansing https://www.dherbs.com/articles/how-to-stay-energized-during-the-day-while-cleansing/ https://www.dherbs.com/articles/how-to-stay-energized-during-the-day-while-cleansing/#comments Tue, 12 Jun 2018 11:15:49 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=81880 How do you avoid crashing during the day when you don't have access to caffeine? Follow these tips to help you stay energized during your cleanse.

We understand that cleansing can be difficult at times, but, as you may discover or have discovered, it is not impossible. The raw foods diet is vastly different than the Standard American Diet (SAD), which most of us are used to. You don’t want to get used to the foods in the SAD because they contribute to high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, or diabetes. This diet also makes us dependent on certain vices like caffeine.

Some people hankering for caffeine during the cleanse, but we urge you all to overcome this craving because there are natural ways to keep yourself energized. You don’t have to worry about getting out of bed or sinking into an afternoon slump. To do this, it is integral to eat nutrient-dense foods that can provide the body with energy. To help you power through your days, we are going to give you some strategies for how to stay energized.

How To Start Your Day:

It is crucial to start your day with a protein-rich breakfast. How do you do this without eating eggs, meat, or dairy, you ask? Always remember that leafy greens like spinach and kale or nuts & seeds are loaded with plant-based protein. You can also accompany a fruit smoothie with some homemade chia pudding, which is protein-rich. Before you start eating, though, start your morning with a cup of warm water mixed with the juice of half a lemon. This boosts your metabolism, gets the juices flowing, and helps to alkalize the body.

Starting your mornings with a superfood smoothie is beneficial because smoothies are predigested. This means that the body doesn’t really have to work to break down the foods and absorb the ingredients. You save energy this way and can use it to propel yourself until your next snack or meal.

How To Power Through The Afternoon:

While it may be tempting to nurse yourself back to life with a cup of coffee or can of soda after lunch, don’t do it! You have to remember that you are looking for something to sustain your energy, not just a quick burst. Try eating half an avocado seasoned with a little sea salt and pepper. This not only keeps energy levels stable, but it also fills you up. You can also eat a green pear and dip it in homemade tahini. A cup of homemade chia pudding can also give you sustained energy in the afternoon. If you want something a little lighter that you can sip, a green vegetable juice is a great option. Just make sure to avoid packaged snacks, caffeine, and sugary products.

For more information about snacks that work to give you energy, try the following recipes and let us know how they work out for you.

5 Tips To Spring Clean Your Mind, Body, and Home https://www.dherbs.com/articles/5-tips-to-spring-clean-your-mind-body-and-home/ https://www.dherbs.com/articles/5-tips-to-spring-clean-your-mind-body-and-home/#comments Mon, 19 Mar 2018 23:46:45 +0000 https://www.dherbs.com/?p=78651 Release tension, excess material goods, toxins, and waste this spring! Start this season feeling renewed by employing these helpful tips.

Spring is here! Can’t you smell it in the air? The weather is beginning to warm up, the days are getting longer, and people are going outside more after being dormant in warm, cozy homes all winter. In addition to embracing the weather, spring is also a time clean out the mind, body, and home.

When it comes to the body, a lot of people accumulate food and emotions over the winter. In regards to general stuff, many people accrue things that they are never going to need again. Often times, people replace old items with new items, meaning that spring is a time of release and not a time to hold onto the past. Just as the clocks spring forward, so must we.

Let’s invite more light and clarity into our lives this spring and cleanse the body, mind, and home. To help you get started, we have a few suggestions that you should take advantage of.

Get Rid Of It:

If you hang on to an excess amount of physical things in your house, you are also hanging onto them in your mind. Hoarding or accumulating belongings, according to the yogis, translates to a belief that you won’t be able to provide for yourself in the future. We advise you to go through your things and eliminate what you don’t need. You may ask, “What if I need those tie-dye pants one day?” You don’t need them. You haven’t worn them in years. Assess why you really don’t want to let certain things go. Are they valid reasons?

Do A Digital Detox:

So many of us are addicted to smartphones, tablets, or some device that keeps us “connected.” Some people feel anxious when they don’t have their devices for over twenty minutes. Try to spring clean your virtual life and unplug! Rather than playing games, checking your social media sites, or looking at emails right before bed, try to turn off electronic devices two hours before bed. Read a book or meditate instead; you may find that you sleep better! You can also try to put your phone away during meals or do screen-free Sundays. You’ll find that this helps relieve anxiety and stress!

Stock Up On Spring Produce:

Spring brings an array of colorful, seasonal produce. Buying seasonally can help you save money on groceries and the produce typically tends to taste fresher. Try to stock up on artichokes, spring onions, strawberries, watercress, arugula, baby spinach, and alfalfa or bean sprouts.

Go Outside:

Being in nature has been proven to naturally reduce stress levels. The combination of fresh air, vitamin D, and the beauty of nature all contribute to you feeling healthier. Try to explore a neighborhood park or go on a hike with friends or family. If you live on the coast, head to the beach and walk up and down the strand. These are great options, especially for those who work desk jobs. Spring is also a great time to plant various produce items, so you may consider starting a garden in your backyard.

Try A Cleanse:

Spring into health when you cleanse your body this spring! Not only will you get rid of all the toxins you accumulate over the past few months, but you may also shed some weight in the process. Summer will be here before you know it, and spring is the best time start slimming down for that sexier beach body. The Full Body Cleanse is the best place to start!

Don’t just cleanse your house of old stuff this spring. Let this be the season in which you cleanse your mind, body, and home. You can do it all!

]]>

One of the easiest ways to adopt a new healthy lifestyle is to meal prep. Smoothies are a great entry point into the world of meal prepping because all you have to do is prep your ingredients, place them in plastic bags, and store them in the freezer. Not only does this make your life easier, but it saves you time in the morning, which is the most valuable time in the day.

How To Get Started:

Before you get started, you need to have your ingredients and supplies. We are referring to measuring cups, quart-sized bags or mason jars, smoothie ingredients, and a blender. Once you have all of these things, make sure to wash your ingredients (mainly referring to leafy greens, berries, or other fruits with peels).

Prep Your Ingredients:

There’s a way to make your life very easy. If you throw all of the prepped ingredients in the bags, the ingredients can freeze together in big clumps. You can still do this and slam the bags against the counter when it’s time to make your smoothie, but we recommend a better way to avoid clumping. Cut up your ingredients and freeze them on lined baking sheets before adding them to your bags.

Labeling:

This is an optional step if you need help remembering what is in your smoothies. You can also write the date on there as well.

Jars vs. Bags:

You can add your smoothie ingredients to plastic bags or glass mason jars. There’s an advantage to using mason jars because they not only serve as your prep containers, but they also serve as your smoothie cups after you blend the smoothie. It’s a win/win situation.

The Ingredients:

We are going to give you three different smoothie recipes, so you can alternate between the three. Each ingredient list is good enough to make 1 smoothie every day for a week. Theoretically, you could have one of these smoothies every day of a Full Body Cleanse.

Smoothie #1:

 • 7 bananas, sliced
 • 2 pineapples, cubed (you’ll have some extra to snack on)
 • 7 cups mango, cubed
 • 1 big bag of spinach

Directions:

 • Each bag or jar should contain 1 banana, 1 cup pineapple, 1 cup mango, and 1 cup spinach. When you make this smoothie, add the ingredients and 1 cup of water to a blender and blend away. You can use less or more water depending on the consistency you enjoy.

Smoothie #2:

 • 2 pounds strawberries, tops removed
 • 7 bananas, sliced
 • 1 big bag of spinach
