We understand that cleansing can be difficult at times, but, as you may discover or have discovered, it is not impossible. The raw foods diet is vastly different than the Standard American Diet (SAD), which most of us are used to. You don’t want to get used to the foods in the SAD because they contribute to high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, or diabetes. This diet also makes us dependent on certain vices like caffeine.

 

Some people hankering for caffeine during the cleanse, but we urge you all to overcome this craving because there are natural ways to keep yourself energized. You don’t have to worry about getting out of bed or sinking into an afternoon slump. To do this, it is integral to eat nutrient-dense foods that can provide the body with energy. To help you power through your days, we are going to give you some strategies for how to stay energized.

How To Start Your Day:

It is crucial to start your day with a protein-rich breakfast. How do you do this without eating eggs, meat, or dairy, you ask? Always remember that leafy greens like spinach and kale or nuts & seeds are loaded with plant-based protein. You can also accompany a fruit smoothie with some homemade chia pudding, which is protein-rich. Before you start eating, though, start your morning with a cup of warm water mixed with the juice of half a lemon. This boosts your metabolism, gets the juices flowing, and helps to alkalize the body.

Starting your mornings with a superfood smoothie is beneficial because smoothies are predigested. This means that the body doesn’t really have to work to break down the foods and absorb the ingredients. You save energy this way and can use it to propel yourself until your next snack or meal.

How To Power Through The Afternoon:

While it may be tempting to nurse yourself back to life with a cup of coffee or can of soda after lunch, don’t do it! You have to remember that you are looking for something to sustain your energy, not just a quick burst. Try eating half an avocado seasoned with a little sea salt and pepper. This not only keeps energy levels stable, but it also fills you up. You can also eat a green pear and dip it in homemade tahini. A cup of homemade chia pudding can also give you sustained energy in the afternoon. If you want something a little lighter that you can sip, a green vegetable juice is a great option. Spring is here! Can’t you smell it in the air? The weather is beginning to warm up, the days are getting longer, and people are going outside more after being dormant in warm, cozy homes all winter. In addition to embracing the weather, spring is also a time clean out the mind, body, and home.

 

When it comes to the body, a lot of people accumulate food and emotions over the winter. In regards to general stuff, many people accrue things that they are never going to need again. Often times, people replace old items with new items, meaning that spring is a time of release and not a time to hold onto the past. Just as the clocks spring forward, so must we.

 

Let’s invite more light and clarity into our lives this spring and cleanse the body, mind, and home. To help you get started, we have a few suggestions that you should take advantage of.

 

Get Rid Of It:

If you hang on to an excess amount of physical things in your house, you are also hanging onto them in your mind. Hoarding or accumulating belongings, according to the yogis, translates to a belief that you won’t be able to provide for yourself in the future. We advise you to go through your things and eliminate what you don’t need. You may ask, “What if I need those tie-dye pants one day?” You don’t need them. You haven’t worn them in years. Assess why you really don’t want to let certain things go. Are they valid reasons?

 

Do A Digital Detox:

So many of us are addicted to smartphones, tablets, or some device that keeps us “connected.” Some people feel anxious when they don’t have their devices for over twenty minutes. Try to spring clean your virtual life and unplug! Rather than playing games, checking your social media sites, or looking at emails right before bed, try to turn off electronic devices two hours before bed. Read a book or meditate instead; you may find that you sleep better! You can also try to put your phone away during meals or do screen-free Sundays. You’ll find that this helps relieve anxiety and stress!

 

Stock Up On Spring Produce:

Spring brings an array of colorful, seasonal produce. Buying seasonally can help you save money on groceries and the produce typically tends to taste fresher. Try to stock up on artichokes, spring onions, strawberries, watercress, arugula, baby spinach, and alfalfa or bean sprouts.

 

Go Outside:

Being in nature has been proven to naturally reduce stress levels. The combination of fresh air, vitamin D, and the beauty of nature all contribute to you feeling healthier. Try to explore a neighborhood park or go on a hike with friends or family. If you live on the coast, head to the beach and walk up and down the strand. These are great options, especially for those who work desk jobs. Spring is also a great time to plant various produce items, so you may consider starting a garden in your backyard.

 

Try A Cleanse:

Spring into health when you cleanse your body this spring! Not only will you get rid of all the toxins you accumulate over the past few months, but you may also shed some weight in the process. One of the easiest ways to adopt a new healthy lifestyle is to meal prep. Smoothies are a great entry point into the world of meal prepping because all you have to do is prep your ingredients, place them in plastic bags, and store them in the freezer. Not only does this make your life easier, but it saves you time in the morning, which is the most valuable time in the day.

 

How To Get Started:

Before you get started, you need to have your ingredients and supplies. We are referring to measuring cups, quart-sized bags or mason jars, smoothie ingredients, and a blender. Once you have all of these things, make sure to wash your ingredients (mainly referring to leafy greens, berries, or other fruits with peels).

 

Prep Your Ingredients:

There’s a way to make your life very easy. If you throw all of the prepped ingredients in the bags, the ingredients can freeze together in big clumps. You can still do this and slam the bags against the counter when it’s time to make your smoothie, but we recommend a better way to avoid clumping. Cut up your ingredients and freeze them on lined baking sheets before adding them to your bags.

 

Labeling:

This is an optional step if you need help remembering what is in your smoothies. You can also write the date on there as well.

 

Jars vs. Bags:

You can add your smoothie ingredients to plastic bags or glass mason jars. There’s an advantage to using mason jars because they not only serve as your prep containers, but they also serve as your smoothie cups after you blend the smoothie. It’s a win/win situation.

 

The Ingredients:

We are going to give you three different smoothie recipes, so you can alternate between the three. Each ingredient list is good enough to make 1 smoothie every day for a week. Theoretically, you could have one of these smoothies every day of a Full Body Cleanse.

 

Smoothie #1:

  • 7 bananas, sliced
  • 2 pineapples, cubed (you’ll have some extra to snack on)
  • 7 cups mango, cubed
  • 1 big bag of spinach

Directions:

  • Each bag or jar should contain 1 banana, 1 cup pineapple, 1 cup mango, and 1 cup spinach. When you make this smoothie, add the ingredients and 1 cup of water to a blender and blend away. You can use less or more water depending on the consistency you enjoy.

 

Smoothie #2:

  • 2 pounds strawberries, tops removed
  • 7 bananas, sliced
  • 1 big bag of spinach
  • 2 pounds blueberries

Directions:

  • Each bag or jar should contain 1 banana, 1 cup strawberries, ½ cup blueberries, and 1 cup spinach. When you make this smoothie, add the ingredients and 1 cup of water to a blender and blend away. You can use less or more water depending on the consistency you enjoy.

 

Smoothie #3:

  • 4 avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1 big bag of spinach
  • 3 pineapples, cubed

Directions:

  • Each bag or jar should contain ½ avocado, 2 cups spinach, and 2 cups pineapple. When you make this smoothie, add the ingredients and 1 cup of water to a blender and blend away. You can use less or more water depending on the consistency you enjoy.

If you have decided to take part in the Full Body Cleanse in the New Year and you have diabetes, there are a few things to take into consideration. You don’t have to deprive yourself of certain foods, but you do want to make sure that you are eating a balanced diet. You are also going to have to focus a little more on vegetables than fruit, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid fruit altogether.

 

Certain fruits have a lower glycemic index than others do, which means that your blood sugar won’t spike when you consume them. A great way to consume fruit while cleansing is to blend them into smoothies. To help make your life a little easier, here are five delicious smoothie recipes that are beneficial for diabetics.

 

Note: When making smoothies, it is important to not add any sweeteners like agave syrup or grade A maple syrup. You don’t need the added sugar on top of the natural sugars in the fruit.

 

For all of the smoothies, blend all of the ingredients in a blender until you get a smooth consistency. You can add more or less liquid depending on how thick you want the smoothie to be.

 

Awesome Green Smoothie:

Don’t be worried about this tasting like grass because it doesn’t. It contains tons of protein and essential minerals that the body needs.
