Infomation about Idiopathic Endolymphatic Hydrops

Idiopathic Endolymphatic Hydrops

Idiopathic Endolymphatic Hydrops is more commonly known as Meniere's, which is a condition that affects the inner ear, specifically causing ringing and balance issues.  The dizziness that people experience is a form of Vertigo, a condition that makes people feel a spinning sensation that disrupts one’s balance.  The ringing in the ear is referred to as Tinnitus, an abnormal loud buzzing or ringing noise.  Meniere's can cause loss of hearing, pressure in the ear, and the ringing noise for certain periods of time.  It can also cause permanent loss of hearing.  The disease commonly affects only one ear, but it can also affect both.  Meniere's can affect people in a mild way and it can also be as intense as a lifelong, chronic condition.   Anyone can experience Meniere's, but it is more common for people between the ages of 40 and 50.

When you experience signs of Meniere's, it starts with one symptom and gradually progresses into more.  Some of the symptoms associated with the condition can mimic or identify with other conditions.  The symptoms can occur at once, but they usually occur at the same time and can last for hours at a time.

  • Vertigo (spinning and dizziness sensation)
  • Feeling like the room is moving
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Migraines

  • Temporary or Permanent loss of hearing

The cause of Meniere's has yet to be identified, but it has been narrowed down to several factors.  All of the causes for Meniere's have been linked to an issue within the inner ear.  The inner ear contains sensory organs for hearing and balance.  If and when it’s affected, it can cause issues that range from mild to severe.

  • Fluid imbalance
  • Improper fluid drainage due to a blockage
  • Rupture in the membrane of the Inner Ear
  • Endolymph Bursts (Endolymph is the fluid in the inner ear; the burst causes the fluid to move into other areas of the ear, causing damage)
  • Abnormal Volume
  • Composition of the fluid in the Inner Ear
  • Irregular Immune Response
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
  • Head Trauma
  • Severe migraines
  • Allergies

Dherbs Approach...adjusting your diet is always key!

  • Adjusting your diet and consuming foods that provide benefits to the body is always best.  Because Meniere's is related to the balance of the fluid, you want to eliminate things like salt, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, and foods that contain MSG from your diet.  All of these things are found in a lot of everyday food, contribute to fluid retention, and affect the blood vessels' functions.  Eliminating these things from your diet can help balance out the fluid in the inner ear.
  •  Decreasing the amount of stress in your life is a great natural remedy for any health issues you may be experiencing.  The body always responds to stress and it can pose a threat on your health, both physically and mentally.  Reducing the amount of stress in your life can also help eliminate the anxiety one usually experiences with Meniere's disorder.  People usually have anxiety because of the symptoms that are associated with the disorder.  When you reduce your stress levels, the symptoms Meniere's presents aren’t as severe.
  • If you’re a person who smokes, quitting can help improve the conditions of Meniere's because it puts stress on the body and can trigger the disease's symptoms.
  • Ensuring that you get the proper rest at night can help.  Sleeping helps to heal the body and makes repairs when the body is at rest.  The fluid in the body affects your blood vessels.  When a person gets the proper rest at night it helps improve brain function and blood vessels, specifically helping to aid with the conditions of Meniere's.
  • Certain allergens can trigger the symptoms of Meniere's.  Using a humidifier helps control the allergens because they help put moisture back into the air, helping with your sinuses, breathing, and clearing the air.
  • Certain foods have super benefits that can further help with the conditions of Meniere's.  You should consume natural foods that have anti-inflammatory properties.  You should also eat fruits and vegetables that promote circulation and fluid retention within the body.  Some foods can also be used as medicine.  Garlic, for example, can help improve circulation and can also be used as an extract to help the ringing in the ears.
  • Mustard Seed Oil, olive oil, garlic, and onion extracts all have antibacterial properties that can help with the Tinnitus symptoms associated with Meniere's.  You can warm the oils or extracts and put it in the affected ear for a few minutes, and then let it drain.
