Infomation about Pruritus Ani

Pruritus Ani

Pruritus Ani is another term used for anal itching.  It’s common that people will experience an anal or rectal problem at some point in life. Anal and rectal problems can range from minor to severe, but anal itching is the most common issue people endure.

The rectum is the chamber area at the end of the large intestine and the anus, through which stool passes, is the opening at the far end of the digestive tract.  The main function of the rectum is to keep the intestine sealed shut and hold feces until your body needs to have a bowel movement.  When that need occurs, the rectum assists in transporting the feces out of the body through the anus. In order to have a sufficient bowel movement, your rectum and anus must be functioning properly.  When there is an issue, you are more susceptible to a variety of anal and rectal conditions, including anal fissures, anal fistula, Crohn’s disease, hemorrhoids, rectal cancer, and, more commonly, anal itching.  The itching of the anus is the irritation of the skin in the anal area.

The obvious sign of Anal Itching is the itching sensation of your anal area.  Below are other signs that indicate whether or not you’re experiencing anal itching.

Dherbs Approach...adjusting your diet is always key!

  • Keeping your body hydrated is key to helping your intestines function properly.  Drinking half your body weight in ounces of water helps to lubricate the digestive track.  Distilled or Alkaline water is best.
  • Enemas and colonics help cleanse the colon, flushing out the fecal matter that sticks to the walls of the intestine, which often contributes to anal itching and conditions that affect the colon.
  • Applying Aloe Vera gel or Coconut Oil can be a great topical solution for anal itching or irritation.  It helps to bring instant relief to the area and can also help with moisturizing the skin of the area.
  • Doing sea salt soaks are always great natural therapeutic treatments for the body in general.  It specifically helps assist with the irritation and the condition of the skin.  The sea salt soaks help to lower the body's acidity and draw out toxins in the body.
