Essential fatty acid support from plants

Omega-3 fatty acids play important roles throughout the body, which is why obtaining them through a balanced diet is important for long-term wellness. Omega 3 Formula provides a completely plant-based approach using three nutrient-rich ingredients: flax seed, chia seed, and kale leaf.

Flax and chia are particularly valuable because they naturally provide alpha-linolenic acid, commonly called ALA. ALA is an essential omega-3 fatty acid, meaning the body cannot produce it on its own and it must be obtained through food or supplementation.

We complement these omega-3-rich seeds with kale leaf, a nutrient-dense green vegetable that naturally provides carotenoids, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, and other phytonutrients.

The result is a simple vegan formula for people looking to add plant-derived omega-3s to their everyday wellness routine without relying on fish oil.*

What are omega-3 fatty acids?

Essential fats your body needs

Fat is often discussed as though it were one nutrient, but different fats perform different functions within the body.

Omega-3s belong to a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The three omega-3s discussed most frequently are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

ALA is primarily obtained from plant foods, including flax and chia. EPA and DHA are most commonly associated with marine sources such as fatty fish and algae.

Omega 3 Formula is specifically a plant-based omega-3 supplement. Its flax and chia ingredients naturally supply ALA rather than functioning as a direct source of marine-derived EPA and DHA.

What is ALA omega-3?

The essential plant-based omega-3

Alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, is the primary omega-3 associated with many plant foods.

ALA is considered essential because the human body cannot synthesize it. That means it must come from the diet.

Omega 3 Formula uses flax seed and chia seed as natural botanical sources of ALA, making the formula particularly useful for vegans, vegetarians, and people who prefer obtaining omega-3s from plant ingredients.*

The body can convert a portion of ALA into EPA and then DHA, but that conversion is limited. For that reason, ALA, EPA, and DHA should not be treated as interchangeable forms of omega-3.

Omega-3s and heart health

Supporting cardiovascular wellness through nutrition

Omega-3 fatty acids are widely associated with cardiovascular nutrition, and making appropriate dietary fats part of your everyday eating pattern is an important component of a heart-conscious lifestyle.

Omega 3 Formula provides ALA from flax and chia to support cardiovascular wellness while also supplying additional naturally occurring plant compounds.*

Flax seed contributes lignans and other polyphenols in addition to its fatty acids. Chia provides fiber, minerals, protein, and antioxidant plant compounds, while kale contributes a broad collection of phytonutrients.

We recommend combining Omega 3 Formula with a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and other whole plant foods for a more comprehensive approach to cardiovascular nutrition.

Omega-3s and brain health

Essential fats play important structural roles

The brain contains a substantial amount of lipid, making appropriate dietary fats relevant to normal neurological function.

Omega 3 Formula supports brain and cognitive wellness by supplying essential plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids as part of an overall nutritious diet.*

It is important to understand the type of omega-3 involved. Omega 3 Formula primarily provides ALA. DHA is a different omega-3 that is especially concentrated in brain and retinal tissue.

Although the body can convert some ALA into EPA and DHA, that conversion is limited. Omega 3 Formula therefore provides plant-based ALA support rather than serving as a direct DHA supplement.

Omega-3s and joint wellness

Nutritional support for an active lifestyle

Healthy joints help you walk, exercise, work, travel, and perform everyday movements comfortably.

Omega 3 Formula can become part of a broader nutritional approach to joint wellness by providing essential fatty acids and antioxidant-rich plant ingredients.*

Nutrition works best alongside movement. Regular physical activity, maintaining an appropriate body weight, strength training, mobility work, adequate hydration, and a balanced diet all contribute to maintaining healthy joints over time.

Omega-3s and healthy skin

Nourishing wellness from within

Skin health isn't determined exclusively by what you apply topically. Hydration, dietary fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, sleep, and overall nutrition also matter.

Essential fatty acids participate in normal cellular structure and function. Omega 3 Formula provides plant-based ALA alongside phytonutrients from flax, chia, and kale to complement a skin-conscious diet.*

For best results, use nutritional supplements as an addition to—not a replacement for—a varied diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, and adequate water.

Ingredients

Flax seed

Flax seed is one of the primary omega-3 ingredients in Omega 3 Formula. We use it because flax is naturally rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid.

Flax also provides fiber, protein, lignans, and numerous phenolic compounds, making it much more than simply a source of dietary fat.

Notable fatty acids and compounds: Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is flax seed's standout omega-3 fatty acid. Flax is also one of the richest dietary sources of lignans, particularly secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG). Additional plant compounds can include ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, and other phenolic compounds.

Notable minerals: Flax naturally provides magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, and other minerals.

Chia seed

Chia seed works alongside flax as the second major plant-based omega-3 ingredient in Omega 3 Formula. Chia has an impressive fatty acid profile, with ALA representing a substantial portion of its naturally occurring fats. It also contributes fiber, plant protein, minerals, and polyphenols. We include chia seed to complement flax with another concentrated plant source of ALA while adding a diverse spectrum of minerals, fiber, protein, and antioxidant phytonutrients.*

Notable fatty acids and compounds: Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is the dominant polyunsaturated fatty acid in chia seed. Chia also naturally contains linoleic acid and smaller quantities of other fatty acids. Its polyphenols can include caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, quercetin, kaempferol, rutin, and related compounds.

Notable vitamins: Chia naturally provides B vitamins including thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), and niacin (vitamin B3).

Notable minerals: Chia is naturally rich in minerals including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. It also provides trace minerals such as zinc and iron.

Other nutritional compounds: Chia naturally contains dietary fiber and plant protein, including amino acids such as arginine, leucine, valine, lysine, glutamic acid, and aspartic acid.

Kale leaf

Kale gives Omega 3 Formula a nutrient-dense green component that complements the seed-based ingredients.

Unlike flax and chia, kale is not included as the formula's primary omega-3 source. Instead, we use it to broaden the formula's nutritional and phytonutrient profile. We include kale to complement the omega-3-rich seeds with a nutrient-dense leafy green containing vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, chlorophyll, and antioxidant plant compounds.*

Notable compounds: Kale naturally contains carotenoids such as lutein and beta-carotene as well as flavonoids and other polyphenolic compounds. Chlorophyll contributes to its characteristic green color.

Notable vitamins: Kale naturally provides vitamin K, vitamin C, folate, and provitamin A carotenoids such as beta-carotene.

Notable minerals: Kale naturally contains calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, iron, and other minerals in varying amounts.

Omega 3 Formula vs. fish oil

Plant-based ALA vs. marine EPA and DHA

Omega 3 Formula and fish oil both belong in the omega-3 conversation, but they should not be considered identical products.

Omega 3 Formula uses flax seed and chia seed to provide the essential plant omega-3 ALA. Fish oil typically provides the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA directly.

The human body can convert ALA into EPA and subsequently DHA, but only a limited amount is converted. This means taking an ALA-based supplement is not nutritionally identical to consuming a supplement that directly supplies EPA and DHA.

The advantage of Omega 3 Formula is its completely plant-based approach. There is no need to consume fish-derived oil, and the formula provides the additional nutritional compounds naturally found in flax, chia, and kale.

If your goal is specifically to consume measured amounts of EPA or DHA, choose a product that lists EPA and DHA amounts directly. If your goal is adding essential plant-based ALA and complementary botanical nutrients to your routine, Omega 3 Formula is designed for that purpose.

Omega 3 Formula vs. algae omega-3

Whole-plant ingredients vs. direct vegan EPA and DHA

Algae-based omega-3 supplements have become a popular fish-free option because certain algal oils provide DHA and, depending on the product, EPA.

Omega 3 Formula takes a different approach.

Rather than extracting EPA or DHA from microalgae, we use flax seed and chia seed as botanical sources of ALA and add kale leaf for complementary phytonutrients.

Both approaches can be vegan, but the omega-3 profile is different.

Choose Omega 3 Formula when you want an herbal, seed-based source of ALA. Choose an appropriate algae oil product when your primary goal is obtaining DHA or EPA directly without consuming fish.

Omega 3 Formula vs. flaxseed oil

Three whole botanicals vs. isolated seed oil

Flaxseed oil is an excellent concentrated plant source of ALA, but oil removes much of what makes the whole seed nutritionally interesting.

Omega 3 Formula uses flax seed rather than relying exclusively on isolated flaxseed oil. The formula also adds chia seed and kale leaf.

That combination means you receive botanical material containing fatty acids alongside naturally occurring lignans, polyphenols, minerals, and other phytonutrients.

Flaxseed oil may be appropriate when concentrated ALA oil is the primary goal. We recommend Omega 3 Formula when you prefer a broader whole-plant approach.

Omega 3 Formula vs. eating chia and flax seeds

Supplement convenience vs. whole-food nutrition

Whole chia and flax seeds are nutritious foods, and Omega 3 Formula isn't intended to replace them.

Eating seeds provides calories, dietary fat, protein, fiber, minerals, and other nutrients in amounts determined by the portion you consume. They can easily be added to smoothies, oatmeal, salads, and other meals.

Omega 3 Formula provides the convenience of having flax, chia, and kale together in vegetarian capsules. There is nothing to grind, soak, measure, or prepare.

We recommend continuing to eat nutritious whole foods even when using Omega 3 Formula. Supplements should complement a healthy diet rather than replace it.

Omega 3 Formula vs. Cholesterol Formula

Essential fatty acid support vs. targeted cholesterol wellness

These formulas overlap through one important ingredient—flax seed—but their overall purposes are different.

Omega 3 Formula combines flax seed, chia seed, and kale leaf to provide plant-derived omega-3 fatty acids and complementary phytonutrients for broad heart, brain, joint, and overall wellness.*

Our Cholesterol Formula combines flax seed with additional botanicals selected specifically around cardiovascular wellness and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range.*

Choose Omega 3 Formula when your priority is obtaining plant-based essential omega-3 fatty acids as part of broader daily wellness support. Consider Cholesterol Formula when your primary wellness goal is more specifically centered around healthy cholesterol and cardiovascular support.*

Who should consider a vegan omega-3 supplement?

Plant-based nutrition for different lifestyles

Omega 3 Formula may be especially appealing to vegans and vegetarians who want to incorporate an omega-3 supplement without consuming fish oil.

It can also be used by people who aren't vegan but simply prefer plant-based supplements.

The formula may fit particularly well into a wellness routine centered around cardiovascular nutrition, brain health, active joints, healthy skin, and increasing intake of essential plant-derived fatty acids.*

You don't have to wait until something feels wrong to think about essential fats. Like protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber, essential fatty acids are part of everyday nutrition.

Can vegans get enough omega-3?

Plant foods can provide the essential omega-3 ALA

Yes. Flax, chia, walnuts, and certain plant oils provide ALA, which is an essential omega-3 fatty acid.

Omega 3 Formula makes incorporating ALA-rich botanicals into a daily routine convenient by combining flax and chia with kale leaf.

However, vegans should understand the distinction between ALA and the long-chain omega-3s EPA and DHA. The body converts only a limited amount of ALA into EPA and DHA.

People specifically interested in increasing DHA or EPA intake while remaining vegan can consider appropriate algae-derived omega-3 sources in addition to consuming ALA-rich foods.

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids

Both are essential, but they are different

Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are both families of polyunsaturated fats, and both include fatty acids the body needs from the diet.

ALA is the essential omega-3 fatty acid, while linoleic acid is the essential omega-6 fatty acid.

Modern diets often provide omega-6 fats through numerous foods and cooking oils, while plant omega-3 sources such as flax and chia may be consumed less consistently.

Omega 3 Formula offers a simple way to intentionally add ALA-rich plant ingredients to your everyday supplement routine.

Why flax and chia work well together

Two complementary plant sources of ALA

Flax and chia have several nutritional characteristics in common, but using both gives Omega 3 Formula a more diverse botanical foundation.

Both seeds naturally provide ALA, fiber, protein, minerals, and antioxidant plant compounds.

Flax stands out for its lignans, particularly SDG, while chia offers its own diverse collection of polyphenols and an impressive mineral profile.

Rather than relying on only one seed, Omega 3 Formula combines both and rounds out the formula with nutrient-dense kale leaf.
